With TV schedules being as bleak as they are right — seriously, who actually needs 24 hours of A Christmas Story? — it’s hard to find anything to watch when all you want to do is clock in some much-needed couch-potato time. But that’s why, when the holidays roll around, I turn to the warmth of reruns. Sure, I can predict the punchlines and I already know whodunnit, but there’s even in the abyss of next-to-nothing TV options, there are friendly, familiar faces a few channels away.
This holiday season, perhaps in an effort to gear up for its Jan. 20 premiere, I’ve looked to Parks and Recreation on my parent’s On Demand, and, let me just say, “The Beauty Pageant” episode is just as funny the second time around. And not to neglect an oldie but goodie, I’ve also turned to a perennial favorite, Friends — the era of “The Rachel” haircut and Tom Selleck, natch.
Which reruns have you guys been tuning into this weekend?

I too engaged in a Parks and Rec marathon this holiday season. It is still funny the second time around, my favorite episodes is the telethon one.
I’ve also been watching Gossip Girl season3. It is reminding me why I hate the Humphrey clan (and Vanessa) so much.
I also just watched that episode of Parks and Recreation (on DVD) but I have to say that the following episode, Practice Date, is even better. Although this the second time I’ve seen it, I still found myself laughing for 2-3 minutes without pause during the practice date.
I have been reminiscing about my high school years with Freaks & Geeks…it is also funny to see these actors when they were young. Look at the lineup; Seth Rogan, Jason Segal, James Franco, Samm Levine, Busy Phillips, John Patrick Daly, Martin Starr, Leslie Mann, Shia LeBeauf, Steve HIggins, etc. (i know i probably spelled some names wrong, and missed a few)
My brother gifted me Undeclared on DVD! That will probably be my holiday marathon.
… I am also watching all of Real Housewives of D.C. (for some reason…)
I am watching the Disco and Dragons episode right now. So happy!
Just been watching DVD’s. Got done with third season of Man Men, then first season Lost. Now I’m going back thru first season Vamp Diaries. Can’t stand the constant Xmas shows.
I watched season one of community in a day and loved every minute of it! Now starting freaks and geeks that I have on my Dvr from yesterday on IFC
first season of Community, some 30 Rock, and season 2 How I Met Your Mother. How Lily stole Christmas is a classic!
I just got hooked on the Office. Damn, I can’t believe I’m just getting hooked on this NOW.
I know. We’ve bought and watched all 6 seasons since Thanksgiving. My daughter’s totally hooked.
just got Parks and Rec season 2, big bang theory season 3, and modern family season 1 for x-mas. this is WILL be fun. might watch some lost on netflix streaming too.
I’ve been watching the most recent season of “Dexter.” Didn’t catch it when it first aired, so thank goodness for On Demand.
I am hooked on Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman right now, with a possible Twin Peaks episode thrown in every now and then.
Very much enjoyed a bunch of witty & wacky Christmas episodes of “Frasier.” Puzzled over the uniform, bland idiocy of virtually every holiday-themed TV movie I attempted to watch, so I slogged thru a big thick book by Doris Kearns Goodwin instead.
I’ve been catching up on Supernatural, thanks the DVDs I got for Hanukkah/Christmas. Currently on season 4. Nothing captures the holiday spirit more than the Winchester boys fighting demons and raising a little hell.
My friend is doing the exact same thing and just finished season 4. So good!! Welcome to the fandom
Doctor Who on BBC America!
I wish my family loved British TV as much as I did – it would be on all day!
NCIS – it’s like comfort food
Football.
I too watched a lot of football, but also got in some Lizzie McGuire and just discovered Big Time Rush, also tossed in some Rockford Files.
Sorry, I forgot to jump on the “let’s slam A Christmas Story” bandwagon this year. That stayed on my TV all day yesterday to enjoy in between pauses of numerous visits of relatives, and it helped the frustration of removing toys from the packaging. I am eagerly awaiting the Doctor Who marathon next weekend.
It’s tradition at my house every year! Great background noise and you do get to enjoy it between the hussle and bussle. and it really sets the christmas mood!
