Image Credit: Pamela LittkeyAs 2010 draws to a close, it’s time to turn to the Google Zeitgeist — because we are what we search, no? In addition to searches about major political events and humanitarian crises, there was, of course, the celebrigoogling. This year’s most searched person in the United States: Justin Bieber. Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Eminem, and Megan Fox rounded out the top 10.
On the film front, Batman and Star Wars were the most searched for movies, which is kind of wild considering neither Batman nor Star Wars movies came out this year. (Of course, we can’t rule out Clone Wars as being responsible for the surge in searches.) Or even last year! But they are pretty awesome. Toy Story 3, Dear John, Tron, Percy Jackson, Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Avatar, and Inception were among the most-searched films as well.
I can’t say any of these celebs surprise me, PopWatchers: I mean, yeah, didn’t everyone Google Nicki Minaj at some point this year? Did any of these trends surprise you?

I have to think that “Percy Jackson” searches got a bump from the books, because the movie wasn’t exactly a runaway success. Otherwise, no surprises here; this is basically just confirming that popular things are, in fact, popular.

That’s a bit deceiving because all year long (well, before they turned to punishing the enemies of Wikileaks) 4chan was bombing google with variations of “Justin Bieber dead,” “Justin Bieber syphilis,” “send Justin Bieber to North Korea” etc etc etc in order to mock his teen girl fanbase.

LAME!!! lol you people are old. well basically all you need to know is that she is a female rapper with a huge ass. also she is quite entertaining and has some hilarious/amazing raps. just listen to her verse on kanye’s “monster” or trey songz’s “bottom’s up”. also she’s really sweet and pretty

I disagree with “we are what ‘we’ search”. If half a million 8-12 year old girls goodle Justin Beiber 12 times a day, making him “most searched” that doesn’t all make us little girl Beiber fans.
I’m pretty sure the terms “justin”, “bieber” and “gay” would have been searched quite frequently, especially together.
