From what I’ve read so far, it seems the non complimentary posts seem to hold a little more weight than the complimentary ones. So, you’re complaining that Taylor gets too much exposure, but do you know that you are helping to add that overexposure?
Well, I’ve long suspected it, but now I know – I am completely out of touch with popular taste. Seriously? A child-woman who writes and sings spiral-bound notebook poetry about her Meanie McMeanigans ex-boyfriends is the most significant pop culture artist of the entire year? Hang on to those unicorn posters, kids – they’re gonna be worth a fortune soon.
Taylor will be 21 soon and she’s all woman and not a girl anymore.
This article lost me right after it said that the movie Valentine’s day was a hit. Not to mention that TS performance in the movie was panned by every critic. Oh well, EW continues to cater to teens, it’s no big surprise.
really you think EW just caters to teens? they just had THE Walking Dead on the cover. clearly adults enjoy that show more than teens not to mention they just had a cover for Love and Other Drugs where Anne Hathaway and Jake G where naked. trust me I doubt teens really read this magazine. they’re supposed to cover entertainment and yes that includes people like Taylor, the Twilight cast, etc. the only other people that I can think of that maybe deserve this are Sandra Bullock (who got it last year)or maybe someone like eminem. I also can’t believe that people think Katy Perry is more talented than Taylor. if you take away her gimmicks she is a terrible singer. I watched her on the Grammy Nominations special last night and she was terrible. really I can’t think of someone more talked about than Taylor. this isn’t given to the celebs who have the most TALENT, it’s given to had everyone talking which Taylor did.
Yeah, you know by hit they mean that it sold a lot of tickets, not necessarily that it was well-received. The EW review wasn’t even favorable. So count me as a supporter of Krista’s comment above. If you think The Walking Dead and Love and Other Drugs are just for teens, there’s something wrong here.

Taylor has entertained the masses, kept people talking, best selling albums and tons of radio play. She’s drawn in a large mass of fans into country music, and had a completely sold out tour. She was also the first artist to sell over a million copies the first week of her album release in over 5 years. Someone tell me how she is NOT top entertainer this year? She may not be your personal taste but like her or not, clearly this girl is doing something right.

Betty White had notoriety on her stint with SNL. Taylor did too, but add along the other 8 things that Taylor did that Betty White did not do during the year just puts a little more edge towards Taylor getting the title.

Betty and Taylor were both excellent in their appearances and they both have the ability to bring in the young and the older viewing audience.

I think it would have made more sense to have the entire cast of Mad Men as Entertainer of the Year (they’ve had casts hold the title many times).

Indeed. They have evolved with their programming in exactly the opposite way that MTV has, and they deserve kudos for successfully recognizing and delivering creative talent to the masses.

Why? EW you just lost all credibility with me and I’ve been a long time reader for over 10 years. James Franco makes the most sense as Entertainer of the year. The man was taking on two grad degrees, did two movies, starred on a soap opera, is about to host the oscars, did host SNL, and put together some art exhibt this year…While he might be a bit crazy, he was definitely talented and entertaining…Taylor Swift is none of the above…I seriously know no one that likes the girl. Kanye might have chosen poor timing, but I support him a hundred percent, she will never have best anything!

I think I understand stand EWs reasoning for TS as EOTY, but I don’t have to like it. Lady Gaga should have been last year’s choice. Nicki Minaj who came out of where has had a great year. Hopefully EW gave her some consideration.
