Jeff, your explaination about precedent being set regarding placement on the jury dosen’t hold water. All contestants sign contracts which clearly explain that the producers can change the rules anytime during the game. The producers have complete say over every aspect of the competition. All they had to do was say to NaOnka and Purple Kelly, “That’s it, since you both are quitters, you will not be allowed a spot on the jury.” But I think that the producers were really wanting all the film action from Ponderosa once they were there and interacted with the other contestants already there.
Jeff – I have always loved Survivor and always will. I think you are a terrific host and producer and I really enjoy your blog postings here at EW. Like everyone, I was shocked last night to see that the quitters were allowed to stay in the game as jurors. Although I had forgotten about Janu, I think your explanation here about precedent is not the full story.
Your job is to give Survivor fans good television. And whether she’s in the game or on the jury, Naonka is TV gold. She’ll be great for the online Pondersa episodes, she’ll continue to create conflict even while sitting silently on the jury during tribals, but most importantly for viewers she’ll be a lightning rod of drama and controversy at the live reunion show. I think long-time Survivor fans are a pretty sophisticated bunch; we get the drill. You made a production decision and I think it’s better for you and the show to be as forthcoming as possible about that decision. In the long-run, I’d rather see Naonka on the jury and how the finalists react to whatever questions she asks, and particularly at the reunion show where I assume you plan to go at her pretty hard. In the end, it’ll be great entertainment. Just keep owning it, Jeff!
I, for one, will NOT watch the Ponderosa episodes because I can’t stand to see or listen to that ignorant, selfish, human piece of garbage for one more second. And I normally loves all the clips on the CBS website. Some of us out there don’t enjoy watching someone like her on TV. Gold? I think not. And she’s going to ruin the reunion show, too.
Juneau, for sure don’t watch Ponderosa. It will make you SCREAM BLOODY MURDER. What Survivor has done is shown that it is ok to QUIT because you still get rewarded. UNBELIEVEABLE. I love Survivor. Have been a fan since day ONE… but there should have been changes made from the first time someone QUIT. I love Jeff, but his take on why these 2 LOSERS are still in the jury is A@@ANINE (and yes I know it spelled incorrectly).
If I was one of the two finalists and NaOnka or Purple Kelly asked me a question about my game play, I would ask them, ‘How can you pass judgement on something I did to FINISH the game, when you couldn’t finish the race and QUIT?
Ummm…..so here’s what I dont understand. When someone quits the game why are they still part of a part of the game? It makes no sense at all?!?
So these girls want to QUIT so ya great they quit the rain, starvation, cold, pain and in return they still get to be a part of the game, not only that they get a fabulous paid for vacation in an expensive nicaraguan resort!
CRAZY PRODUCERS ALERT!
hahaha! I love the comment Jenni…
GROW SOME BALLS MARK BURNET AND JEFF PROBST!
Very frustrating episode. very frustrating cast. very frustrating blog also. Get over urselves and admit you made a mistake and you shldv sent the quitters home. I was so upset watching them take a nice day trip to Granada after they quit in the ponderosa videos. I can imagine the rest of them.
um…..*scratching head*
It’s debatable if they should be on the jury or not. But what I don’t understand why they are being rewarded at ponderosa
Agreed. If TPTB didn’t see fit to eliminate them from the jury, they should have at least had the backbone to draw the line and say, fine, precedent says you can be on the jury, but that’s where it ends. No Ponderosa rewards. No reunion show. No compensation. Nothing. They can just sit there and stew while the TRUE players who didn’t quit get to have these incredible experiences that they EARNED. These 2 took spots away from people who wanted to be on the show. They should not be allowed to continue to benefit from it in any way. If “precedent” says they have to be at the reunion show, they should not be given any camera time or any attention whatsoever. They should not be allowed at any future Survivor functions of any kind. They quit the show, they quit everything to do with the show. I never want to see their faces again.
You are so right but it’s predictable that they will be given plenty of attention at the reunion show, instead of those we want to hear from.
How annoyed were you when they were sitting in a car making comments about people walking down the street with their cows.
They were saying that they couldn’t make it 28 days in those conditions. The majority of the planet lives in similar conditions their entire lives, and there is no prospect of a million dollars at the end (or even of whatever amount each of those quitters were paid for their respective finishes). So frustrating!
I always enjoy watching the Ponderosa videos, but it will be hard for the rest of this season.
When I saw that the quitters were going on the outing, I turned it off. Couldn’t stomach it any longer.
Your comment carries no weight because you are not one of those people who ahve very little. IT’s so easy to criticze another when you haven’t walked in their shoes. It’s tough out there. They quit. They had a right to and they did. Get over it.
Do you know Heather personally? How do you know that she doesn’t have very little, or has not previously lived in harsh conditions? How do you know that she didn’t previously immigrate from a 3rd world country for example? You are certainly presumptuous for someone who is so quick to condemn criticisms from others. Anyhoo, you’re pretty much just highlighting Heather’s point; she was criticizing the contestants for passing unfair judgment on people because do not understand their hardships – the exact same thing that you have just accused her of.
P.S. Peace.
Eolra…she has access to a computer. DUH. and time to blog…not the same as living in a hut with a goat. Smarten up your comments already. Your ignorance is showing.
I’m sure you have a wonderful work ethic as well. Heather was right & you completely missed her point. Nice try.
agree … was really dumb to send them out on trips
I am with you on that..BestPlayer2NP. Send to Motel 6 in some tribal village…*lol*
I felt the same way! Now they get a vacation? GRRR
What are they supposed to do with them? Take them out back and shoot them? Get a life.
DMAN, I bet most of us have a good life, thank you for your concern though. I’m sure we are all posting here, you included, because we are all die hard fans of Survivor. We’re passionate about what happens on this show! Does that mean we’re children and don’t have a life? I think not.
Dman – Wow, use over the top hyperbole much? Get a life indeed.
I agree with DMan. All this hate about people quitting a game show…very weird…and none of the bloggers have been on the show to experience the hardships. I think it is just a bunch of people who are mesmerized with JEff Probst’s celebrity and will agree with anything he says. I bet if Jeff says they should have quit, most bloggers would agree with him..
Sheep.
Again I will say that I think most of the outrage is NOT so much because they quit but that they are reaping all the rewards of those who didn’t quit.
Right. Having them on the jury doesn’t mean they really quit. They just don’t have to suffer at camp anymore and get to eat and sleep well and still play the comfortable part of the game. Not fair to the other players and certainly not to the jury. Shame on the producers.
I live in Canada, so we are not privy to Ponderosa videos this season. They went on a trip???? I really don’t like quitters, especially ones that still get special treatment. In the adult world, somewhere, sometime they will be in a situation that forces them to do something they don’t want to do, hopefully they won’t just pass out and drop on the spot when that moment comes.
Did you try googling “survivor Nicaragua panderosa” or “Naonka Panderosa”? There are several sites playing these videos, I’m sure you could find one that works for you.
go to youtube. The ponderosa videos are on there.
CBS posts them on YouTube. You can watch the Ponderosa videos there. (From a fellow Canadian!)
I am with you all the way Palermo – HATED Pondrosa!
GROW SOME FREAKING BALLS MARK BURNET AND JEFF PROBST!
Yes Jeff you are not a lawyer or a psychologist but you sure as hell are a PYSCHO
Yes Jeff you are not a lawyer or a psychologist but you sure as hell are a PYSCHO executive producer.
Not only do you make a crazy decison to let them be part of a game they QUIT. I mean I dont understand that at all. Im totally with Liona;s comment. When you quit a game, you quit right? why are you still in the game. crazy stuff
But then you give some tepid bull**** response about how Janu was allowed to be on the Jury. I mean come on!
If I was in the jury house I wldve blown my top off. I mean how can you let these losers come in here and treat them like they are freaking godesses.
Brenda was in the game like the night before, if these two losers had quit a night before we wldve still had Brenda in the game! Its so annoying to watch!?!!?
I don’t understand the luxury part, they do not deserve it.
I say let ‘em quit, but no luxury for you. No food, like they get at Ponderosa, no beds, no shower, no water, basically like they were living for the game, but NOT ‘playing’ the game. That’ll teach them to quit!!
Jeff, how will this deicision affect your feelings on possibly bringing NaOnka back for an all-star season? I felt that prior to the episode, you would have liked to cast her in another villainous role. Did her quitting change that sentiment?
He said in every heroes vs villains interview he did that they don’t invite quiiters back (referring to Fairplay). If the precendent of quitters on the jury holds, then this one should to, and we will never see Kelly or Naonka on Survivor again (I think it is more to do with the risk factors, a leopard never changes its spots).
All Jeff would have to say is that Naonka had gone to anger management classes and was rehabilitated. That’s how it works in our court system today. One day we might even see a Survivor series called Russell-vs- Naonka.
1) Danny was the one who should have relinquished the reward since he didn’t earn it. Why is that not even questioned?
2) Never thought I’d agree with Naonka, but she was right not to sacrifice for the group IN THIS GAME. I’m sure all it earned Holly was a bigger target on her back under the “I couldn’t win against her” theory.
3) Not in any way supporting the “quitters” but Jeff’s personal Holier-than-thou attitude makes we wish we could see how well HE’D fare under the same conditions. He vents his spleen, then goes back to his cushy digs. Heck, I’d be happy just to see him endure one night under a leaky tarp.
I have a suggestion. Just like the show, Undercover Boss, let’s have a Survivor season where Jeff, other producers, and staff play the game. Let’s do it in this location, and Boston Rob can be the host.
If the precedent is wrong, the precedent should be adjusted. Naonka and Kelly quit – they walked out. They should most certainly give up their right to a jury vote on picking the ultimate survivor since they’ve proved it isn’t in their character to survive.
Nicaragua is the worst season ever. I wonder how low can it get…
Dan winning? At this point I wouldn’t be surprised.
Actually Bristol Palin gets dropped in next week and wins the whole show!!
I think they might be saving her for Survivor 23. Being from Alaska, she might do well. No wait, there arn’t any polar bears or moose on Survivor.
It stinks that those two will be able to sit on the jury. If they had some sense of propriety, they would decline sitting on the panel. Naonka is NO loss.
They should have made them “Quitters” wearing ” I AM A QUITTER! ” big ugly necklace for the rest of the TC and of course…a live reunion show, too.. That must have been darn funny.. wahahahaha
I think they do something with their torches at tribal councel.
What would Naonka’s family think? Where do you think she probably got all of her bad attitude? I liked her at first, but by the end I realized she was actually a disgusting person who not only wouldn’t give someone the shirt of her back she would also take their pants with her.
… and the food out of their mouths!
I couldn’t even like her from the beginning. She was down right ‘UGLY’ in the way she would speak about (can’t think of her name…was it Kelly with the artifical leg?) How disrepectful and rude. She was talking about how she prayed when she wanted to quit the first time….What? She (can’t even type her name) prays? I think I should pray for her, that she has watched the show and learns from it that she needs to mature and grow up and that everything is not about HER! She must never heard ‘you should give more than you receive’!!
I think NaOnka’s problem has less to do with maturity and more to do with the fact that she’s mean as sin and just plain hollow inside. She has a stone where her heart is supposed to be.
4) The highlight was how UNDERWHELMED the reward winners obviously were with Gulliver. Even the magic of editing couldn’t make it appear they’d enjoyed the movie, despite being a captive, starving audience plied with goodies. BOO to the producers for this intrusive product placement. And thanks for letting me know the movie wouldn’t be worth my $8.
I was hoping someone would have fallen asleep and started to snore during the movie. Now that would have been some funny stuff!!
LOL! JEFF! Nice..
This season is a total Fail. Get a tarot card reader or something cbs to help you pick contestants. This is without a doubt the worst group of turds I’ve ever seen on this show.
In the future you guys should keep jury alts around in case somebody does this again. Naonka and Kelly have no right to be anywhere near the jury, the reunion show, or ponderosa. Allowing them to do anything but slip into survivor obscurity is an insult to everyone who’s ever made it this far. Their mark on the game should be NOTHING.
Now that there are only 7 people, but 10 days left, I think Jeff should pull an old trick out of his hat and give Marty, Brenda and Alina a challenge to win to get back into the game. He has done it before and I think it would be awesome to see him do it again!
The only way this season could possibly become any lamer is if they do another outcasts twist. They already had young vs old (fail), medalion of power (fail) and the cast (fail), why rehash old failed twists?
lolfail
Jeff thanks for the insight and the decision-making process with regard to jury/no jury for the lame contestants.
That having been said, please, in some post-production meeting somewhere…please consider no longer recruiting players for this show. I really don’t care whether I’m looking at buff bodies or not…I just want to watch driven, committed persons playing this game. Quite honestly, the great majority of fantastic Survivor contestants were NOT drop dead gorgeous, but they each had a willingness to play and a plan to make it happen. Bring back hunting-fishing-foraging for one’s food…make this show REAL again, or I fear it won’t be around that much longer.
THIS!! From your lips to God’s ears (or at least Burnett’s ears.)
