Katie Couric may guest star on 'Glee'

Categories: Glee, Television

katie-couricImage Credit: Stephen Lovekin/Getty ImagesKatie Couric is in talks for a guest spot on Glee, sources say, but it’s not quite a done deal yet. The news anchor, who recently criticized Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, and Cory Monteith’s racy photoshoot, may appear in the post-Super Bowl episode. Your move, Diane Sawyer!

Of all the shows that pull stunt-casting cameos, Glee‘s somehow work really well — maybe because the show itself is so pop-saturated, or maybe because the rules of the show’s universe are incredibly flexible. High-profile cameos on Glee do not bug me at all. But I feel like we need a rule, and that rule is this: If you want to guest star on Glee, you have to sing and dance. Musical numbers are not a spectator sport.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Will Katie Couric fit in at McKinley?

'The Walking Dead': This week's EW cover story goes behind the scenes on TV's best new show

EW-COVER-1131How in the world did a show that begins with a policeman shooting a little (albeit zombified) girl in the head ever make it on to television? And how did it become the hottest new series of the year? The new issue of Entertainment Weekly examines the past, present, and future of AMC’s zombie survival epic, The Walking Dead — from the comic book’s humble beginnings, to unlikely path to the small screen, to even more unlikely path as a bona fide hit. We talk to all the key players, including comic creator Robert Kirkman, executive producers Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd, and star Andrew Lincoln, who was as shocked as anybody by the subject matter when he was first approached for the project. “I got an e-mail outlining the project,” says Lincoln. “The first thing I read was ‘AMC.’ I went, ‘Great! I’ve been waiting for an AMC opportunity!’ Then it said ‘The Walking Dead.’ Terrific title. Then the names. ‘Frank Darabont.’ ‘Gale Anne Hurd.’ Great. And then it said ‘Zombie survival horror.’ I think I actually did a literal double take. I was like, ‘Really?!’

Ingrid Pitt: An appreciation of the late 'Queen of Horror'

House-Blood-Ingrid-Pitt_320.jpg Image Credit: Everett CollectionMy first real introduction to the horror film came courtesy of the British film company Hammer, whose gory, gothic output was a late-night TV staple when I was growing up in the U.K during the ’70s. However, there was much more to Hammer movies than death. There was also, frequently, sex. And no Hammer actress was sexier than the Polish-born Ingrid Pitt, the star of 1970′s The Vampire Lovers and the following year’s Countess Dracula, who sadly died Tuesday at the age of 73.

It may seem poor taste to talk in such a lusty manner about the recently deceased. But I suspect the self-proclaimed “Queen of Horror” — who once published a tome called, fabulously, the Ingrid Pitt Book of Murder, Torture and Depravity — would have appreciated the thought. The actress possessed a compelling feistiness, both on- and it seems off-screen, that was surely the result of an early life more dramatic than any film in which she subsequently starred. 'Dancing With the Stars': Hidden Gems of the Finals!

It’s a visual feast of sparkles, fringe, and flesh. Ready to go down the rabbit hole? Behold this bountiful smattering of Visible Gems!

MVG (MOST VALUABLE GEM): Let’s hear it for sporadically commenting husbands!

“As Bristol ‘danced’ her jive, my husband (oblivious to all things Mirrorballus) glanced up from the book he had buried his nose in, took in about 5 seconds, then blandly said ‘she looks like she’s dancing in Jell-O or something.’ Nose back in book. Couldn’t have said it better myself.” –juliagoolia, endorsed by avab, orville, sjcb, jodipo

I’m sorry that Jell-O looks like innards or something. I thought it kind of looked like jewels, but it’s week 10 and I’ve gone almost completely insane. What you’re really seeing is a multi-faceted cross-section of my brain!

After the jump, a special Hidden Gems welcome from Tom Bergeron. You’re not even ready for this. Are you ready? Go! READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' countdown: Meet Mrs. Sylvester

Categories: Glee, Television

GLEE-FURTThe moment Sue Sylvester has always never been waiting for is finally here. It’s her wedding day! Because Sue believes “intimacy has no place in a marriage,” tonight’s nuptials will likely be a part of a business/blackmail deal to help her get three confetti cannons, or do away with child labor laws. But who could be the lucky groom? (Ex-)Principal Figgins? Mr. Schuester? Puck? The momentous occasion may explain the appearance of Sue’s mother, esteemed (and most likely highly feared) nazi hunter Doris Sylvester, played by guest star Carol Burnett. Sue and her mother turn back the clock (sorry, Holly Holliday) with “Ohio,” a lovely tribute to their home state from the 1953 musical Wonderful Town. Everybody loves a wedding, right? Hop in, Gleeks ‘cuz you know weez be goin’ to Breadstix…for the reception.

Should Jane Lynch get to sing more often? What kinds of items will be included on Sue’s “something borrowed, something blue” list? After you watch “Furt,” head back here to discuss tonight’s episode and be on the look out for Tim Stack’s full recap and performance grades after midnight.

'Oprah's Favorite Things': Should her audience really cry over cashmere?

oprahs-favorite-thingsImage Credit: George Burns/Harpo ProductionsRaindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, iPads and VWs, and Elfa closet systems. These are few of Oprah’s favorite things, as has been well reported during her two-episode Favorite Things extravaganza. But we pop culture enthusiasts can add something to our own list of beloved objects: Watching Oprah’s Favorite Things episode.

Let’s face it: We don’t really tune in to see which material items Oprah covets. (Do you even remember what brand of car she gifted her audience in 2004? I do — it was the Pontiac G6 — but only because I’ve written about the famous moment more than a few times.) No, we watch to see the audience react to Oprah’s giveaway. Because winning free stuff from Oprah is not just a pretty cool distinction — it’s a religious awakening. Audience members keel over or punch the air, bawling incessantly while the talk show maven gives away even the smallest of items. Say, a $17 Black Eyed peas CD. Or Beecher’s macaroni and cheese. (I have, however, nearly been brought to tears eating my mom’s macaroni and cheese, so maybe I get that one.) And we reap the benefits: Though we won’t go home with a new Nikon camera, or a Tory Burch tote, or a Ralph Lauren cashmere sweater, we get to laugh at the screengrabs, guffaw at the GIFs, and talk with family and friends about the show because how crazy are those people?! • Girls Aloud singer Kimberly Walsh has joined Anjelica Huston and Richard E. Grant in the 3-D children’s feature Horrid Henry: The Movie. For the kiddies. [Variety]
  • Lorbor (rhymes with “arbor”?) Films has acquired rights to The Woodmans, a documentary about a family of artists. [Variety]
