Sue Sylvester's getting married. Who should be the lucky groom?

sue-gets-marriedImage Credit: Mike Yarish/FoxYou read that headline correctly. Glee‘s Sue Sylvester is tying the knot in an upcoming episode. Jane Lynch confirmed the news to People at BAFTA/LA’s Britannia Awards.”Sue gets married — that’s all I’m going to tell you,” Lynch admitted. “I probably shouldn’t have said anything!”

Lynch might not have let any more details slip, but she did say the nuptials would take place within the next three or four episodes. For a woman who thinks “intimacy has no place in a marriage,” the news comes as a bit of a shock. But then again, it’s Sue Sylvester we’re talking about. She never ceases to amaze me.

So PopWatchers and fellow Gleeks, what do you think of this news? And more importantly, who do you think Sue is going to marry? Could it be a character we’ve already met? (Does she still have blackmail on Principal Figgins? Or will Rod Remington re-enter the picture?) Or is someone new coming into the picture? Please, help me solve this mystery in the comments below.

UPDATE: Michael Ausiello teased the aforementioned wedding in his Ask Ausiello column.

Daniel Radcliffe on 'The Simpsons': 'Harry Potter' star pokes fun at 'Twilight'

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

When pop culture phenomenons collide: On The Simpsons‘ annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode — which aired last night, bringing relief of all us still dealing with Halloween withdrawal — Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe voiced a vampire character named Edmund, who, naturally, closely resembled a certain Twilight hero, even if his green eyes weren’t so golden. (And even if he couldn’t quite convince Lisa to transform into a fellow immortal being: “Eight forever? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I can’t spend eternity using kids’ scissors. They barely cut anything!”) But there wasn’t just a two-part pop culture collision on The Simpsons last night — Radcliffe, and The Simpsons‘ writer room, also managed to work in a reference to Tommy Wiseau’s great cult masterpiece, The Room. (Or was it a Rebel Without a Cause reference? I choose to believe the former, since the scene involved a character named “Lisa.” But perhaps that’s because I’m on my third scotchka. Not really.) My mind is so blown, it’s as if I was sitting on an atomic bomb waiting for it to go off! Click the jump to see the clip: READ FULL STORY »

'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' exclusive: Meet the 'Suckers'

Suckers-FallonImage Credit: Lloyd Bishop/NBCHere’s something that very well could take the place of 6-Bee as my favorite Jimmy Fallon series to date.

In this latest bit, Suckers, new show writer Angelique learns a sinister secret about Jimmy Fallon and some of the Late Night crew: They’re vampires. And if the preview is any indication, they like to drink blood from empty Orangina bottles.

So sink your teeth into the sneak peek below, PopWatchers, and watch the full segment premiere tonight. Meanwhile, ponder with me: Do you think Jimmy Fallon and his vampire brood sparkle? Is he drinking True Blood? And if you got to choose, who would you rather see cameo: Alexander Skarsgard, Ian Somerhalder, or RPatty? READ FULL STORY »

Hayden Panettiere and Nikki Reed to star in 'Downers Grove' adaptation

Filed under: Movies, News and tagged: ,

Downers-GroveImage Credit: Solarpix/PR Photos; Amanda Meredith/PR PhotosLife after Heroes is looking good for Hayden Panettiere. With Scream 4 hitting theaters in April, she’s set to start filming American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis’ adaptation of the Michael Hornburg novel Downers Grove with Twilight star Nikki Reed this spring. They’ll play seniors at a suburban high school where each year, one student dies a bizarre death before graduation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Panettiere will take the role of Chrissie, who’s convinced she’s this year’s victim. (In the book, a jock she beat up when he tried to attack her is out for revenge with the help of his buddies.) Presumably, that makes Reed Chrissie’s best friend, Tracy, described on the book jacket as being “hornier than a Prince song.” (Oh, the ’90s.) Nelson McCormick (Prom Night) will direct. Rebecca De Mornay (always scary) has also joined the cast.

What do you think? Ellis signed on to adapt the book in 2008, so we assume the script has got a nice polish by now. It doesn’t sound like your typical teen slasher film (more dark and clever, like Heathers), so it could be a smart move for both Panettiere and Reed, who can capitalize on that genre’s audience while not getting pigeon-holed into the genre itself.

Fox's 'Million Dollar Money Drop': It'll suck you in

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: ,

Kevin-PollackImage Credit: Michael Caulfield/Getty ImagesRemember how you got sucked into Deal or No Deal that time, and your sister’s husband came home and saw you and your sibling sitting nervously on the couch and made fun of you, but then when you told him what was happening, and he sat down, too? Well, prepare to feel that same inescapable pull (for at least one night), when Fox premieres its new game show Million Dollar Money Drop on Dec. 20. (It will air the next three night as well.) This time, the show gives a team of two contestants $1 million upfront and all they have to do to keep it is correctly answer seven multiple-choice questions (and tolerate host Kevin Pollack’s William Shatner impressions). How does it work? According to Fox, “Once the question is revealed, the duo must debate and decide the answer(s) on which they will risk all of their money. Are they confident enough to place all of their money on one answer? Or will the relentless pressure cause them play it safe and spread their money across a few answers?” The network’s sample question:

According to the Lenox Report, which of these is the most popular Thanksgiving side dish?
A. Mashed Potatoes
B. Green Bean Casserole
C. Cranberry Sauce
D. Candied Yams

Is that a trick question? Isn’t cranberry sauce more like a garnish than a side? LET THE BICKERING BEGIN!  READ FULL STORY »

Dina Lohan says the right things on 'Today,' but should she be talking?

Filed under: Movies, Television, TV and tagged: , ,

Did we need to see Dina Lohan interviewed again on Today this morning? No. (Should the show stop calling her? Probably.) But after watching Matt Lauer’s latest sitdown with her, we’re allowing ourselves renewed hope that Lindsay Lohan is finally getting the help she needs. Dina began by praising the Betty Ford Center, where Lindsay is undergoing court-appointed rehab until Jan. 3. She says Lindsay is “happy,” “relaxed,” and “just a different person” there. Asked if she thinks this rehab stay will produce different results for Lindsay, Dina gave the only reasonable answer: “We take it one day at a time. Addiction is difficult. I don’t know. I don’t have a crystal ball. I pray hard.” READ FULL STORY »

'Boardwalk Empire': Spot Inspection

boardwalk-Empire-108Image Credit: HBOIs Boardwalk Empire a good show? HBO spent mega-millions on the period-piece mob drama, and instantly renewed it for second season when the Scorsese-directed premiere averaged 4.8 million viewers. But ratings have dropped over the last couple months (last Sunday’s episode, the seventh of the season, had 2.6 million viewers — not bad, but not Sopranos.) On a deeper level, Boardwalk doesn’t seem to have the watercooler appeal of, say, Mad Men, the other lavishly-designed boozy historical drama created by a Sopranos writer. Boardwalk would appear to have something for everyone — mob violence, cutting dialogue, an endless parade of female and male nudity. It’s history porn in both senses of the word. But is Boardwalk Empire entertaining you?

I’m a total history nut, and one of the main reasons I enjoy watching the show is that it has a ridiculously expansive vision of Prohibition history. But you could certainly make the case that a better title for Boardwalk Empire is Lots of Things that Gangsters Did in the Twenties. READ FULL STORY »

Screenwriter John August responds to Jessica Alba's 'good actors never use the script' comment

Filed under: Movies and tagged:

John-August-Jessica-AlbaImage Credit: Alberto E. Rodriguez/WireImage.com; Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty ImagesGood actors never use the script unless it’s amazing writing. All the good actors I’ve worked with, they all say whatever they want to say.” — Jessica Alba, to Film Comment Elle Magazine.

Let those words sink in. Click on Dame Alba’s IMDb resume, and let them sink in some more. I will now yield the floor to the august screenwriter John August (Big Fish), who responds on his blog:

“I have to believe she was misquoted, or excerpted in some unflattering way … Oh, Jessica. Where to start? … Following your logic, you’ve never been in a movie with both good actors and amazing writing. That may be true, but it might hurt the feelings of David Wain, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. … Screenwriters can be your best friends. We are pushovers for attractive people who pay attention to us. I wrote that bathtub scene in Big Fish because Jessica Lange made brief eye contact with me. So if you’re not getting great writing — and honestly, you’re not — ask to have lunch with the screenwriter. I’ve seen you on interviews. You’re charming. That charm could work wonders.”

Pardon the long excerpt, but I wanted to get the words juuuust right. What was Alba thinking, and is it possible for her to clarify her remarks to prevent her future characters from plummeting to their deaths down open elevator shafts?

'Kung Fu Panda 2' teaser: Staring contest, go!

Kung Fu Panda was an unexpected delight in summer 2008. It was smart. It had style. It featured Ian McShane as an evil snow leopard, and everyone knows that the only thing cooler than Ian McShane is an evil snow leopard. Now, your friends at DreamWorks are hoping you liked KFP1 so much that you’ll be back for more, more, more! Don’t get too excited for the new Kung Fu Panda 2 teaser, though  — it’s just a couple of fat jokes, followed by a sustained staring contest joke that actually becomes funnier the longer it lasts (following the Sideshow Bob Rake Gag rule of comedy.) Check it out! READ FULL STORY »

George W. Bush talks liquor, Libby with Matt Lauer

In advance of tonight’s one-hour primetime special on NBC, Matt Lauer teased more of his pre-taped interview with George W. Bush this morning on Today. Sitting in the church where he married his wife, Bush told Lauer that his faith helped him decide to quit drinking cold turkey after his 40th birthday. “I was a drinker. Now I wasn’t a knee-walkin’ drunk,” Bush says. Oh, how we’ve missed his turn of phrase. He was a habitual drinker who’s certain would never have become president had he not stopped, because alcohol made his quick tongue “not only quick, but caused me to be stupid.” Lauer says he’ll give an example of that in the full interview, which airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

Bush also discussed his controversial decision to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby, saving Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff from prison. In Bush’s memoir, on shelves Tuesday, he says Cheney was angry he didn’t give Libby a full pardon, and told him, “I can’t believe you’re gonna leave a soldier on the battlefield.” Did Bush and Cheney’s relationship ever recover? “I’m pleased to report, it has…. We are friends today,” Bush says. “I was a little concerned at one time,” he added with a laugh. READ FULL STORY »
