'The Dark Knight Rises': Which superstar actresses should Christopher Nolan cast?

Weisz-Portman-HathawayImage Credit: David Gabber/PR Photos; David Gabber/PR Photos; Sylvain Gaboury/PR PhotosFor the past couple weeks, Hollywood gossips have been buzzing about the fact that Inception helmer Christopher Nolan has been auditioning actresses for two roles in his third Batman film, entitled The Dark Knight Rises. Deadline reports today that the director will soon meet with these six stars: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, and Keira Knightley. This follows a report at ComicBookMovie.com that Nolan has met with Charlize Theron for one part (said to be a character named Sarah Essen) and Vera Farmiga and Kacie Thomas for another (said to be a character named Julie Madison). To these names, I can report to you exclusively today that Nolan has just decided five seconds ago to meet with every single woman in Hollywood (and several locales outside of it) between the ages of 18 and 91 over the next two weeks, because hey, why not? Thoroughness, you know.

Okay, I confess: I may have made up my exclusive “news.” For the record, reps for Nolan and Warner Bros. declined to comment on the casting process. But just in case ComicBookMovie.com at least got the names of the characters right, here’s what you need to know: READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Listen to music from next week's Gwyneth Paltrow episode

Glee-Paltrow-singImage Credit: Adam Rose/FoxGwyneth Paltrow has already conquered the CMAs and now she’s bringing her vocals to next Tuesday’s episode of Fox’s Glee. The actress plays Holly Holliday, a substitute teacher who fills in for a sick Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison). The Academy Award-winner tries her hand at Cee-Lo’s “Forget You,” a mash-up of “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Umbrella,” and a Lea Michele duet on “Nowadays.” Plus, it sounds like Matthew Morrison does a cover of “Make ‘em Laugh.” Personally, I’m loooooving “Forget You” and cannot wait to see it on the show. 'Burn Notice' Bingo: Play along during the season premiere tonight

Filed under: TV and tagged: ,

Brun-Notice-BingoBurn Notice, which returns for its winter season tonight, has been a zippily enjoyable show for so long, it’s easy to overlook just how many flavors of pleasure it mixes together. Watching the show is like drinking a cocktail on a warm day, preferably before lunch. Now, thanks to the happy elf mixologists here at PopWatch Bingo, you can quantify each episode’s particular recipe of spy thrills. Are top-secret meetings taking place right in front of a beach (or, even better) a pool? Is Sam enjoying a morning mojito, or trotting out his famous pseudonym, “Chuck Finley”? Is Mama Westen making Michael feel like a bad son, while she blows cigarette smoke in his face? Most importantly, is there a sniper rifle in the house?

Be sure to mark off the proper squares when the show achieves a rare Split-Screen Hat Trick (three or more split-screens at the same time) or an even more rare Double-Cross Hat Trick (in which three or more people in a single room are all plotting against each other.) Keep an eye out for Michael’s trusty screwdriver, his number-one weapon when creating MacGyver-style DIY madness. Keep an eye out for those occasional moments when the show remembers that Fiona used to be Irish. Cherish how the gang runs away from an explosion. And really, just treasure Michael’s sunglasses. God, Miami is cool. Click forward for the full Bingo card… READ FULL STORY »

KaDee Strickland talks about her brutal rape storyline on 'Private Practice'

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

KADEE-STRICKLANDImage Credit: Adam Larkey/ABCLast week’s episode of Private Practice — which included an unflinching portrayal of Dr. Charlotte King (KaDee Strickland) being raped — provoked widespread discussion about sexual assault, its depiction on television, and Charlotte’s decision not to report it. More than 10 million viewers watched, a 44 percent ratings surge for the medical drama. As the ramifications of the assault continue to play out on tonight’s episode, we talked to Strickland about the harrowing storyline.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What kind of reactions to the episode have you experienced?
KADEE STRICKLAND:
The woman from the rape treatment here at UCLA, who I worked with [to research the role] — for her to reach out and say to me that she’s never seen it depicted that way, that was just jaw-dropping. It was a great point of pride for both [Private Practice creator] Shonda Rhimes and myself. And in like kind, the RAINN hotline has just been booming. I say that knowing that it’s not just people who are reporting attacks but people who are co-survivors. The fact that anyone felt compelled to get help or come forward or deal with it affecting someone they love — my God, there’s nothing more extraordinary. People have come up to me and thanked me. I’m reeling from that. Our little TV show done good.

What about Charlotte’s decision not to report the rape yet? READ FULL STORY »

'Skating With the Stars' pros, host, and color commentator announced

skating-with-starsImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCOkay, it’s easy to look at the roster of “pros” on ABC’s Skating With the Stars and dismiss them. But ask yourself this: How many of the pros’ names did you recognize on Dancing With the Stars that first season? It’s just because you — especially those who enjoy PopWatch on Ice coverage — can actually rattle off some famous figure skaters that you’re questioning these pros’ abilities before even seeing them in action. (That was a tougher spin than a Biellmann!) Here are the pairings. The show premieres Nov. 22.  READ FULL STORY »

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Calling All Boys!

victorias-secret-fontanaImage Credit: Timothy A. Clary/AFP/Getty ImagesI’m guessing her boobs are great, but I think the backup gymnasts flanking futuristic Barbell-ella Isabeli Fontana were the real MVPs of the night. (Should we run a “Guess how many ounces it really weighed?” contest for that styrofoam-filled silver thing? Winner gets to go with me to Disney on Ice: Toy Story….in their dreams!)

Also dominating the runway: more fully realized Sexy Rainbow Brite Halloween costumes than the creepier ones typically found in plastic bags and a Katy Perry party dress featuring a large black triangle over the crotch. (Of course.) Hit up the always hilarious Tom and Lorenzo for a look-by-look evaluation of whether this was the gayest Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show ever.

No time like a Thursday afternoon for a PopWatch Dance Party, right? After the jump, “Calling All Boys” by The Flirts. GET UP. READ FULL STORY »

'Glee': Wait, 'Teenage Dream' was sung by a real a cappella group?

sing-off-beelzebubsWere you entranced by Blaine and his Dalton Academy classmates singing Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” on Tuesday’s Glee? (Silly question, the answer is obviously yes.) While Darren Criss is undisputedly a favorite (and new inappropriate crush?) around PopWatch HQ, did you know that a real all-male a cappella group is behind the song you can’t get out of your head?

The Beelzebubs, Tufts University’s oldest all-male a cappella group, is responsible for the musical arrangement and backing vocals for Glee‘s version of “Teenage Dream.” You may remember the Beelzebubs from last year’s The Sing-Off, NBC’s answer the Glee craze, and a pretty enjoyable five days of all-ages a cappella. The Bubs made it all the way to the finals, losing to Puerto Rican group Nota, but not before wooing fans around the country (including judge Nicole Scherzinger) with their creative performances (a “Magical Mystery Tour” human bus!) and overall cuddly aw-shucks personas. (Plus, sweater vests!) Check them out below: READ FULL STORY »

'South Park' kills Justin Bieber. Baby, baby, baby oooo-uch.

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

Oh my god! They killed Bieber! On last night’s new episode of South Park — the thrilling conclusion of the Coon & Friends trilogy — Cartman and the dark lord Cthulhu teamed up to rid the world of (Cartman’s version) of evil: the inhabitants of San Francisco, Burning Man’s hippies, Whole Foods, and, their “most challenging and most evil opponent,” Justin Bieber. “In order to save the Earth,” said Cartman as the Coon, “this little butthole had to be stopped.”

I suppose this is what you get when you’re responsible for a generation of hair-induced whiplash. See the video after the jump!

'Call of Duty: Black Ops' sets a gigantic one-day sales record that is still less impressive than you think

Filed under: Videogames and tagged:

Within 24 hours of release, Call of Duty: Black Ops reached $360 million in sales in North America and the U.K. That’s a monstrous record — beating out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s $310 million for the biggest one-day sales record in videogame history. Heck, you could arguably call this the single biggest entertainment release in world history. According to Box Office Mojo, the current record-holder for a global movie release is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, with $394 million, but that was over a full weekend. So is Black Ops literally the biggest first-day thing ever, pop culture-wise? READ FULL STORY »
