More American Idol

'American Idol': New promo accurately reflects my anticipation for Season 10 premiere!

What can I say? I’m starting to get a case of the tinglies (mixed with an equal dose of the nameless dreads) about American Idol‘s upcoming tenth season. THE PREMIERE IS ONLY 55 DAYS AWAY. And Fox’s brand-new 30-second promo — featuring several aspiring singers who now have an approximately 1-in-500 chance of being played on my iPod on repeat loop before the end of 2011 — is contributing to my excitement. Oddly enough, all five quotes here from said prospective Idols (I’m not counting the one from a contestant’s mom) accurately reflect my feelings about the season 10 premiere*. I am being totally serious. You know I don’t joke about Idol. Let’s review: “It really does mean everything to me.” “I need this so bad.” “I have to really make sure that I’m on my game.” “No matter what happens today, it’s the biggest day of my life.” “This is it.”

See what I mean? After the jump, check out the promo for yourself, then take our handy PopWatch poll and tell us which contestant sentiment best sums up your feelings about season 10.

(*These statements could also be coming from A) participants in The Hunger Games; B) Powerball ticket-holders; C) My ravenous family, wondering who’s going to quit pretending to be polite and make the first move on this year’s Thanksgiving feast.

    “It’s over, Johnny!”

I hate American Idol now that Fringe is being pushed to the Friday Night Death Zone because of it.

  • 2ndChance

Idol has to come out swinging and make an entertaining show right from the get-go.

Viewers will most likely give the “new look” Idol a chance, but only a small one. Hopefully they can throw something together that people will be able to say, “That’s wasn’t too bad”

“This is it”… the final season!

    • nehope

Absolutely! I do believe this will be the final season of American Idol.

      • J.Taylor

No way would it be their final season. Even with falling ratings they are still tops over almost every other show.

  • damian

i’m more excited for the return of “idolatry”!!!!

    • Sarah

      Idolatry FTW!

    • nopodcasts

At least I hope Idolatry returns, and not these STUPID lumped-together podcasts. They really leave something to be desired without the video portion.

      • Boughi

        Agreed!

    • Robert

Me too. I watched Idol last year only so I could follow Idolatry.

      • Andrea

        Same here!

    • stevenjaba

me too! It’s my only reason for watching AI anymore.

  • heuse1ac

I appreciate that after all the talk about the judges, they’re making the promos about the contestants. I could say the changes bother me, but by the end of the auditions, I’ll be hooked again. It’s a disease…

    • Boughi

I know. It’s a sad Brokeback Mountian can’t quit you thing for me. I try to walk away, but I can’t. I’ll be sucked into it again. And I secretly love JLo, so that will draw me in too.

The fans need to remember that the artists will still have the same chance of being good as they always have. despite the lack of Simon, among other things. Keep with it at least til the top 24 begins. I do NOT want this to be the last season. Hopefully it’s worth something still…

    • Glambert

It’s been announced there is no Top 24 this year.

    • JennieO

There’s not going to be a top 24 this season–they’re going straight to the finalists.
I’m still on the fence on whether to watch or not–and I’ve been a faithful viewer since season 1.

      • Janizzle

Actually from the last interview here, they still don’t know if they will scrap Top 24 round or have something similar to it. Still I’m not holding my breath on this season.

  • me

i don’t care how they get there, i just hope there’s a few GREAT singers to root for. last season left us snoozing, bring in some ooomph!!!

  • you

I’d go w/ please not another white boy toy who cannot sing for the cougars.

  • dctoronto

Glad to see that they are showing more mature contestants. I was really concerned they were going to have more 16-18 year olds on the show this year.

    • Cougar

I like my babes to sing on tune. DC-yes but LD-no. We didn’t vote for him.

  • Irked Voter

Hot black R&B singer or bust!! (I call it “Nikko Smith hope”)

  • silverrose

you get the feeling they left out the comment, “Simon would have liked it”

  • Margie

The best part of that promo was the three seconds of Kris Allen’s crotch at the end. The rest of seemed like every other AI promo we’ve ever seen.

  • Louanne

After DWTS with Britol Palin in the finals(really??!) and season 8 results of Idol, I’ve stopped believing in unbiased voting.

In my opinion people are voting based on looks, politics and/or religious beliefs. And now they’ve added 15-yr olds. Looking for the tweens to tune in ya think?

I won’t be watching Idol but will watch “Idolatry”, which last year was far better than Idol’s singers, excepting Crystal.

Michael, I hope you have a good supply of wine. And if there is an amazingly good female singer who actually has a chance of winning I might start watching at that point. Gokey better than Irahita? Farcical!

  • Jay

I am really liking this years X Factor. I can’t wait for the US version. Nobody can do these shows like Simon Cowell. AI is over after this season.
