Lindsay Lohan loses 'Inferno' role: Is this for the best?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

Another day, another piece of seemingly bad news for Lindsay Lohan. After months of sticking by the actress throughout her legal troubles, director Matthew Wilder has confirmed that he will be recasting the actress’ role as porn star Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Inferno. It might seem another signal that Lohan’s career has burnt out, but, then again, is this pink slip the best thing that could happen to the actress? (At least in a good long while.)

Though the role would have garnered plenty of press for Lohan (like she needs it) — and biopics are generally a good way to capture the critics’ attention — perhaps a post-rehab Lohan would be better served straying as far away as possible from sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Even if the debauchery is only on screen. It’s no secret that Deep Throat actress Lovelace was once involved with drugs, and though parallels between Lohan and Lovelace could bring out a compelling performance, it can’t possibly be wise for a newly reformed addict to jump knee-deep into the role of a fellow drug user.

Not to mention the fact that Lohan could use a break from the heat surrounding her in Hollywood. As much as we’d like to root for a Lohan comeback — or not — the actress is better served focusing on her recovery than her reemergence on the big screen. And though she might not ever stray away from paparazzi cameras — or worse, reality TV cameras — a certain Deep Throat actress famously turned around her life. So why can’t Lohan?

Linda Lovelace is famous for ” Deep Throat” not for turning her life around.Lindsay doesn’t need the association which would follow her throughout the rest of HER career. This is the first bit of real luck Lindsay has had.

    • Strepsi

Yeah, but still, dang! This article is so optimistic… the real story is “LOHAN CAN’T EVEN LAND A JOB PLAYING A PORN STAR”.
She’s done a lifelong career trajectory in under a decade… from promising talent to leading lady to partying disaster to criminal to unhirable… who should play her in HER bio-pic? Ann-Margaret?
Stick a fork in Lindsay, she’s done.

  • Brad

So, if they can’t insure her for that movie, then can they insure her for any movies ?? I she done as an actress ??

    • tracy bluth

I think she is. It’s a shame, but I think her career is officially dead.

    • WhitneyD

With time and completing her probation without any more failed drug tests- she might be able to. I would think that the insurers want some proof that she’s sober first.

    • Heidi

No, it will take a studio willing to back an actor personally – Mel Gibson did that for Robert Downey Junior I believe when he was working on his comeback and dealing with similar issues. I am glad for her to not be near this role – remember DJ AM who had that show which showed people actually scoring and using in front of him and it led to him having a relapse which killed him. She needs to be around sober people who are going to help her committ to living life and having fun without using.

      • philip freeman

yeah but the difference is Downey Jr can act!! a non talent who can’t get work is done, Wal-Mart are hiring I hear

      • Heidi 2

I agree. There are a lot of people that would like to see Lindsay Lohan succeed in breaking her habit. Her acting career isn’t done as long as she can get her act together. This role would be potential Oscar material in 5-10 years but now is not the right time. She needs to do what she needs to do for her self. Hollywood or real life will be there for her when she returns.

      • Heidi 2

By the way “philip” that’s really rude and not really necessary.

    • Dave

No, her career is not over. First things first, she needs to get healthy and get her life back on track. Once she does (or if she does), all it will take is one well-received role. If she truly does clean up her act and it is evident that she has changed her reckless ways, she just needs one director (and one studio) to take a chance on her. And at that point, I’m sure someone will. The girl is talented. Many of the people she has worked with in the past have spoken highly of her and her talent.

      • Diane

What she needs is to convince an insurance company to insure her-otherwise she’s shot

      • Trek

So why don’t you direct her, Dave-the-D0uche, as it seems you know exactly what should happen?

      • Amanda Seyfried

Treat yourself to a double feature of “Just My Luck” & “I Know Who Killed Me”, then let’s discuss her talent

      • Dave

Wow, Trek. Your comment was utterly pointless and moronic.
Amanda Seyfried, I guess you think you’re clever for using that name to post your comment. If you can’t see that the girl does indeed have talent, then there’s nothing to discuss with you. Sure, those movies you mentioned suck. That doesn’t mean she isn’t talented. Plenty of talented actors and actresses have starred in bad movies. People like Meryl Streep have spoken highly of Lindsay’s talent. That’s all that really needs to be said.

      • Lacey Chabert

Yes Dave, you’re right. It’s the movies, not at all Lindsay’s outstanding performances that sucked. And Meryl streep being professionally courteous speaking about her completely excuses her brilliant acting contributions to Georgia Rules, Herbie, Chapter 27, and Underground Comedy 2010.

      • Percy Hilton

Hey Dave, you should be her agent. You can tell all the producers and casting directors that Meryl Streep once spoke highly of her, and that is all that need be said. Boom, she’ll get cast in anything she wants! You’re a regular Ari Gold!

    • mills

She can be insured. You can get insurance for anything. The question is how much will that insurance cost? The higher the risk, the higher the cost. No smaller independent film can possibly afford what it would cost to insure her. These premiums are usually borne by the production, but nobody is going to pay her a salary and then millions in insurance premiums on top of that to cover the cost of the entire production. Lohan is going to have to figure out a way to pay for the insurance all on her own.

      • Rachel McAdams

I don’t think they offer insurance for crappy acting

    • ann p

no brad. not at all. there are tons of companies that insure movies. with differing levels of prerequisites, some requiring an escort [like sheens 24/7 sober coach], depending on the insurer. im sure they had a lot worse time getting insurance for when she filmed i know who killed me, when her drug use was blatantly obvious. the insurance thing is likely more of a cop out than anything, after all wilder went on and on about how he was going to wait for lindsay. this offers him a nice polite out of his promise. you know, its not my fault THE BIG BAD INSURANCE COMPANY made me do it.

PS mailn ackerman from watchmen is replacing her

  • Joni

I think I know who could play her between Mandy Moore or Blake Lively.

  • Jeff from Jersey; yes New Jersey

Under the circumstances, this can only be a good thing for her. She should concentrate on getting her health back.

  • FNL

Yes, I definitely think this is the best thing that could have happened. From the looks of it, Inferno had no shot in hell of ever being Lindsay’s big “comeback” role. I think her best shot is a small role in well respected film with a big name director. I’m thinking along the lines of Anna Faris’ turn in Lost In Translation. Because Lindsay actually can act, and I think a role like that will remind people of her talent. I think Lindsay will have to wait quite a bit longer though until she headlines any big movies. Also, can someone please get her a new manager/agent/publicist?

    • Heidi

I was thinking the same thing. Start small in a role that gains notice.

  • Iliana

What would totally suck for Lohan is if now the actress who got the role turned out to be so compelling in the role she garnered an Oscar nomination.

    • ann p

i seriously doubt malion ackerman is going to get an oscar for acting.

  • Cate

I’m glad she’s missing out on this. It sounds like one heck of a depressing, unnecessary story to be told, and Lindsey would be much better served by a role that challenges her to show some emotional maturity, not just take her clothes off.

    • Carrie Mae

I have to agree with you. I had been wondering if this role was a good idea emotionally for her if she is truly committed to sobriety.

  • rob

so we’ll have to wait for the inevitable ex tape to see LiLo in an ex act? Darn. Maybe she’ll be off the dudes again by then.

    • rob’s mom

What what what? Young man, to the bathroom, now! And bring the soap! We’ll wash that potty mouth right off you!

      • Rob’s Mouth

        Oh no, not the LifeBouy!

  • bozo

I just wanted to see her do the dog sex scene from LL’s life.. those mob guys got her to do incredible things.. and she still called them “mister”

  • California

Very happy this role fell through. It definitely was not going to do Lindsay any favors. I’m very tired of her but I would like the string of horrible things to end; it’s not amusing anymore watching her implode. I really hope she can get healthy and then maybe, if it’s right, she can get into acting again.

  • CocoT

I hope all the future cokeheads take heed! It’s a downhill slope. Lindsay could pull a Robert Downey Jr… who knows??

    • tracy bluth

I doubt it, since RDJ served his appropriate jail time, took responsibility for his actions, and didn’t have Dina Lohan for a mother.

      • Lacey Chabert

        And he can act

  • dan

I am her age and so I was a fan of her as a kid but I have to say I really think her career is shot at least for the next 10 years or so..I think the difference between her and Robert Downey Jr. is that Robert has a bit of a personality and charm to him while LIndsey has been left with fading looks and one of the more gross smoking voices of our generation…I really hopes she ducks out of the limelight, gets healthy and reemerges a few years down the line in more mature roles….

    • Ellen D

She could do the mature roles now, she looks at least 40

  • a.m.

I think Lindsay Lohan’s career has burned out for now which is sad since she was quite a good actress. But I can see why the director fired her. Her behavior is to erratic for any movie studio to insure her. I think she should try to get a role on the stage that way there will always be an understudy to take over if she falls off the wagon. Or maybe she should look into voiceover work.

  • Nat

I totally agree, I think if she wants to relaunch her career she needs to warm up with something a little lighter – maybe go back to her comedy roots first.

    • Meryl Streep

I thought all of her more recent performances were comedic… guess that wasn’t intentional

  • Tom

She would’ve been good in this role and she certainly needs support to regain her confidence. If there’s any silver lining, she’ll realize now that people are there for you and rooting…but, you’ve got other yourself to blame.

    • Trek

I’m sorry, but was that some kind of attempt at a coherent observation? Swing-and-a-miss!!!

      • Meryl Streep

        Much like Lindsay’s acting
