Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Fallon (as Neil Young) cover 'Whip My Hair'

Jimmy Fallon devoted last night’s Late Night to Bruce Springsteen, and the Boss joined Fallon (who impersonated Neil Young) in a cover of Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair.” Watch it below. We’ve also embedded the entire episode, basically because no one is cooler than Bruce. The two talk about Fallon’s “Born to Run” Emmy opening, Springsteen confers with a diehard fan in the audience to double-check that he’s right when he says that one particular concert of his had never been bootlegged, and he explains the stories behind a recent video of him singing in a Jersey bar and a photograph of him sitting on a bench with an engaged couple. And that’s just in the first interview segment. Springsteen also performs “Because the Night” and “Save My Love” with Steven Van Zandt and the Roots. Good times.

Springsteen also confirms that his ear can distinguish between “Boooo” and “Bruuuce.” I’ll admit the first time I saw him in concert, I couldn’t. You?

Why would anybody boo Bruce in the first place?

    • tracy bluth

      SERIOUSLY.

    • Jay

I seriously considered it about 9 minutes into a rendition of “Outlaw Pete”…… the song that goes on forever, and ever… and ever…and ever

      They’re not boo-ing. they’re BRUUUUUU-cing.

How funny! I made the same mistake once at a baseball game when I thought everyone was booing a player when insteady they were chanting RAAAUUUUUUUUUULLLLL!

    • yeomer

      Not BOO! BRUCE!!!

  • Nick

OK, I admit, that was funny. And Jimmy does a dead-on Neil.

Great show last night. All three songs were great (inc the one with “Neil Young”). It was good to see Bruce and Stevie set to rock out with The Roots at the end of Because the Night.

  • Noelle

    bruuuuuuuce

  • thin1

c’mon, everybody & their mama knew they said, “brrrrrrruuuuuuccccce”

  • Organic Canfield

Wow. I actually suggested this duet on the thread when they said Bruce would be appearing on this show. Funny!

WOW! That was amazing! Jimmy’s Neil Young is awesome, Bruce was a nice surprise…I love this version (not a fan of the original) and can not wait until someone posts it on YouTube. (Is it just me or was Jimmy(as Neil)’s voice is way better/stronger then Bruce’s? I love Conan, but I still think Jimmy should have been given The Tonight Show. (A-listers doing Beer Pong…that’s a good thing. Lol)

I found it on Youtube. Yay! Really enjoyable version of this song.

    1) Jimmy Fallon has been doing some of the most creative and innovative work on late night recently. He’s consistently the most buzzworthy and he’s honestly changing the game. I hadn’t had very high hopes for him originally, but he really has blown me away.
    2) Anyone think Bruce is looking like Joaquin Phoenix’s rapper alter-ego right now?

This was so fantastic. Bruce is such a good sport! Definitely one of my favorite late night talk show moments. :-)

  • carly

So great and funny. Jimmy Fallon has become over the last year the best late night talk show host out there. He’s the heir to Carsons throne.

I love Conan and Craig, but I was saying to a friend just last night that I think Jimmy Fallon will be the next king of late night. And, it’s because of stuff like this. Hilarious!

My very first concert ever was Bruce in August 2003 at Lincoln Financial in Philly. He performed there before the Eagles even played in it for the first time. I’ll never forget it.

  • Dan Marrin

    Wow. Fallon’s an excellent impressionist.

  • Shiny

    Awesomeness.

  • Moleman

    I was saying booooo-urns.

    • Crosgirl

Love this, Moleman, – I was totally thinking it.
