Gwyneth Paltrow brings great ratings to 'Glee,' viewers flock to 'Dancing with the Stars' to see next elimination

Tuesday-RatingsImage Credit: Adam Rose/Fox; Adam Larkey/ABCA great night for Fox, a bad one for Brandy: Fox led on Tuesday among adults 18-49 (3.6 rating/10 share) thanks to a much-anticipated appearance by Gwyneth Paltrow on Glee, according to preliminary results. The network also took the night among adults 18-34 and teens.

Glee earned a 4.9/14 in the demo — up 7 percent from last week’s telecast. It averaged 11.6 million viewers. Such a swell lead-in was a boon to Raising Hope, which earned a 2.7/7 — up 8 percent versus last week – and attracted 6.1 million. The network aired a repeat of the comedy at 9:30, which earned a 1.8/5. Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million.

CBS was second in the adult demo with a 3.1/9, with the always strong NCIS earning a 3.9/11 and averaging 19.3 million. NCIS: Los Angeles earned a 3.3/9 and 15.7 million viewers, followed by The Good Wife (2.2/6, 11.6 million).

NBC was third for the night in the demo (2.3/6) because of a totally average performance by The Biggest Loser (2.5/7, up 4%). It lured 6.9 million. Parenthood (1.8/5) delivered its lowest rating ever, down — 14 percent from last week’s episode, and averaged 4.7 million. ABC was fourth in the demo with a 2.2/6, with No Ordinary Family posting its lowest rating to date (1.7/5, 6.6 million). Dancing with the Stars - which sent Brandy packing – earned a 3.3/9 and 17.2 million. Detroit 1-8-7 got a 1.8/5 and 8.3 million.

On the CW, One Tree Hill lured its biggest audience since Oct. 5 (1.9 million) and was up 20 percent versus last week in adults 18-34.  Life Unexpected attracted 1.3 million.

In the total viewer race, CBS won the night with 15.6 million, followed by ABC (10.7 million), Fox (8.3 million), NBC (6.1 million, and the CW (1.6 million). Oh, and just so you know – Univision beat the CW again with 4 million viewers.

Hooray for Raising Hope! Such a great show. And last night’s episode was HILARIOUS!

The Biggest Loser was heart-wrenching last night with Ada not getting a video. Why did EW stop doing recaps for it?

Glee got good ratings because Glee is good, popular. but pls dont insult those who have won an Emmy – Gwyneth CAN NOT sing

    • Chris

Her singing was ok but the scene with her watching Animal Hoarders was awful. I don’t care if she won an Oscar. Her acting stinks.

*with Betty White’s voice* Emmy, not Grammy dear.
“The Substitute” reminds me of “The Rhodes not taken” from season 1, just like “Singing in the Rain/Umbrella” reminds me of “Somebody to love”. Gwyneth brought some energy to the glee club. We can feel the competition is in the air now.
I love when Matthew Morrison does duets on the show. His voice is sooo smooth and warm. When is he dropping that album?
I love Terri, i’m glad she’s back. I missed her craziness.

Glad Terri is back too. I hope the ratings are up because of Jessalyn Gilsig.

I can’t stand the character, Terri. She annoys me to no end.

Don’t be so haughty. Gwyneth can sing. Is her singing very impressive? Not really. But she can carry a tune and has a pretty tone to her voice. And Glee….not that good anymore. Sorry.

No Ordinary Family finally delivered a good episode, but few saw it. Too bad they waited so long to bring the goods.

Parenthood is looking more and more like it will be canceled. I was a loyal viewer and as the show went on I just got bored with it. Airing repeats on Saturday night was good but then College football started and that trumps any other show.

Amazing that with so many cable stations added into the ratings mix things have really changed compared to the way it once was when there were only the networks and no cable. NBC is really having a bad spell. “The Event” has been picking up speed but have they picked up viewers? It’s really improving week to week like “24” and “Prison Break” quality.

NBC’s Must See Thursday was a ratings powerhouse in the 90s. I miss those days. Friends plus ER made for a great Thursday night.

  • Amy

Parenthood is awesome and if anyone would bother looking at it’s ever-growing fan base on Facebook, they would realize there are many, many of us who love the show. Do people in the industry not realize that lots and lots and lots of people DVR and watch many shows via On Demand these days????? Hullo!!!

  • meg

I wish this episode had beaten the Britney one. That one was just terrible. Loved the Gwyneth episode!

Guys you NEED to watch Parenthood, it needs the ratings and it’s such agreat series with such a great cast and great storylines…It would be the sadest thing if they cancel Parenthood for me since Gilmore girls is over…PLEASE watch it!

  • JL

I don’t hate Parenthood, but it looks like it’s going to get cancelled.

  • Judy

I think Parenthood is one of the best shows on television… what a great ensemble cast. I so hope they pull out of this downswing in a hurry. :(
