I believe Phyllis Coates from the TV series Adventures of Superman was the best portayal of the character. For a 1950′s female she was a great role model for all young women who aspired to have a career and be independent of men. I believe Erica Durrance’s portrayal is the closest to this version and the best in the last 50 years.
Erica Durance is the best Lois Lane ever – by a contry mile! And all the haters (aka Lana/Chloe worshippers) who converge on practically every Smallville web article just to bash her are sad, sad, sad! Get a life or find a new hobby, please. Erica doesn’t deserve the malicious abuse you trolls spew!
False. I am a Lex Luthor fan; my dislike of Erica Durance’s Lois has nothing to do with Lana or Chloe.
Smallville is not a soap opera. It is a classic comic story, so the shipperness was never the core of the story, just one element of it.
Yeah! keep telling yourself that. more soap opera then the triangle that was lex/lana/clark there is not other on this show. so your biased is showing.
Teri Hatcher looks young, better and is able to “act”. Erica Durance looks like Teri’s fake mom, fake boobs, fake acting, fake make-up, overdone, over-the-top phoniness. At least, with Teri there is the artful in her acting.
So true. Erica’s Lois Lane seemed too much like Clark’s mother at times. Teri Hatcher had an authenticity and depth that Erica Durance lacks.

I loved Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane in TV and Margot Kidder’s portrayal of Lois Lane in the films. No offense intended to loyal fans, but I must be honest: the Erica Durance Lois Lane is the absolute worst ever. And, no, I am certainly not a ‘shipper’ or a Chloe or CLana fan. The writers created an obnoxious, lame, loud-mouthed Lois; then tried to endear her to us by showing her too adorable vulnerable girlish side but a great many fans just were not taken in by those tactics. There must be a Lois because the story requires it, but two thing were very, very wrong: the casting of Erica Durance and the writers who developed the Smallville incarnation of Lois Lane.
Leave out the shippers, the Clana fans, the Chloe loyalists, etc, and you still have a chunk of the fan base that was deeply disappointed. Can’t imagine what they were thinking; Lois baking muffins. *gag* Lois dancing like a stripper. *gag* Lois saving the day and impressing everyone and turning into the love of Clark’s life overnight. Seriously?
No offense intended to Lois fans, who, I’ve noticed, tend to take this very personally.
