'Glee': Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Umbrella'-'Singin' in the Rain' mash-up released

GLEE-UMBRELLAImage Credit: Adam Rose/FoxWe’ve already heard upcoming Glee guest star Gwyneth Paltrow belt out Cee-Lo’s “Forget You” exclusively here on EW.com. And it wasn’t half bad! Now, the mash-up of Paltrow singing the mash-up of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and the classic “Singin’ in the Rain” with Matthew Morrison’s Mr. Schuster has also hit the Web. It’s fun, in that Glee-doing-a-wacky-mash-up kinda way. Thematically, these two songs fit together well — I mean, one is about singing in the rain and the other is about an umbrella. A match made in heaven, really. And Gwyneth has been on the music circuit lately, so we already know she’s pretty good. Although, doesn’t she sort of sound like Chris Colfer in the “Umbrella”-”Singin’ the Rain’” fusion? It’s sort of bizarre. Take a listen at Just Jared (it’s not embeddable), and then come back and let us know what you think.

Lame, just like the show. My family no longer watches this devil promoter of a show. It’s only encourage sin and blasphemy. My children will be much better off learning life lessons from me, rather than enduring hypnotism to accept the beliefs of others. Ryan Murphy may believe that homosexuality is all the rage; I do not agree.

    • alex

no, your children will not be much better off learning life lessons from you. you sound like an intolerant shrew.

    • Poo on Sue

Sue, you sound like a hillbilly, but you’re entitled to your opinion. I don’t think Murphy is promoting homosexuality in any way, shape or form. I think it’s important that we’re shown examples of tolerance and acceptance on tv though, so kids with narrow minded parents will understand that it’s ok for people to be different. There’s space in the world for everyone, whether you’re gay, or a narrow minded hypocrite like yourself. God bless you.

Go back to your bridge troll.

    • ML

I hope for their sake that neither of your kids are gay cause your ignorance will make their life miserable.

    • William

      Sue Sylvester, is that you?

    • xxx

You may think heterosexuality and ignorance is the rage; I do not.

If you only had a brain.

      Haha shes religious.
Sue honestly if you have a problem with it just don’t watch it. Whats the point of watching the video if you already know your gonna bring it down. You have issues women.

    What a horrible mash up!!!

    • graeme

Not great…but at least Glee is trying something unique. I’m sick of their cookie-cutter covers.

  • Peter

Bleh, no. Maybe it works with video.

  • GleeFan

She sounds like a bad version of Chris Colfer singing….

    • PityPie

TOTALLY RIGHT. LOL, once you read that, you can’t unhear it

      • Eliza

Exactly. Are we sure he’s not doing part of the song?

  • suebrody

Ugh. I’m embarrassed that my first name is also Sue. This is why Glee is so important; it combats homophobes like the other Sue above. You go, Glee! And I did like Cee-Lo’s Forget You…

  • Katie

    Not bad at all.

  • Joey

I think this is quite awesome!!!

  • Kristin

Jamie Cullum was the first to do a mash up of these songs and it was brilliant!
    This one…not so much.

  • Annoyed

HEY EW! Stop spoiling the episodes every chance you get. THANKS!

    • The Jackal

Seriously, this is like the 10th article on this episode, let it go EW, there are other shows out there.

I thought both Morrison and Paltrow did a bad job…Gwen is not a singer and should just stop trying. Morrison’s is a good performer but his voice is pretty weak and needs the visual of him dancing/performing on the show for him to actually sound good.

    • Jenna

I don’t think Morrison’s voice is weak at all. The insane auto-tuning on this song didn’t do much for it though.

      • A

yeah the auto-tune on this song is not doing much for either of them

  • Jenna

I think the mash-up sounds awful. I mean come on, just because both of the songs mention rain doesn’t mean they’ll sound good together. I like each song on it’s own but this mash-up does not work musically.

  • elena

I think this was an idea that sounded better on paper than in actuality.
“Oh cool! These songs have rain-related themes! Don’t worry about them not matching in any way musically, or attempting to re-engineer the songs like the great mash-up guys on the internet do, like DJ Earworm. Just go with it!”
I absolutely love Glee’s mash-ups (with It’s My Life/Confessions being the top song of the 1st half of season 1), but this one doesn’t fit musically, and they didn’t attempt to make it fit…mash-ups are more than just putting two songs together. It’s an art.

  • Chris M

Who the eff are you people. That was an awesome mash up. You act like you guys have any training or background. You listen to nothing but crap on the radio daily

    • Glee Fan

I think you are absolutely right. I love the Mash up. I think they really did a good job of putting the songs together even though Gweneth Paltrow doesnt sing that good to me. I think of Rachel and Shue did it it would have been WAAAY better by far

  • Jodi

One of my favorite Glee mash-ups ever! Watched it over and over again on the DVR.

  • Marie

wow what a brat…people are etitled to their opinons but wow keep it to yourself. you sound like someone who never gets out of the house!!!
