'Glee': Listen to music from next week's Gwyneth Paltrow episode

Glee-Paltrow-singImage Credit: Adam Rose/FoxGwyneth Paltrow has already conquered the CMAs and now she’s bringing her vocals to next Tuesday’s episode of Fox’s Glee. The actress plays Holly Holliday, a substitute teacher who fills in for a sick Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison). The Academy Award-winner tries her hand at Cee-Lo’s “Forget You,” a mash-up of “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Umbrella,” and a Lea Michele duet on “Nowadays.” Plus, it sounds like Matthew Morrison does a cover of “Make ‘em Laugh.” Personally, I’m loooooving “Forget You” and cannot wait to see it on the show. Listen below…

What do you think, PopWatchers? Is Gwynnie a good addition?

I’ve always loved Gwyneth Paltrow! Plus, I’m glad they’re finally letting Matthew Morrison sing show tunes again.

    • Caiti

Forget you sounds like the Kids Bop version or something.

  • Julie

Could this show jump the shark even further?

    • Brad

I get pretty annoyed when people misuse the term “jump the shark.” It’s meant to signify the impending end of a staple television show; “Glee” is likely not going anywhere any time soon.

      • Betty Draper

Actually “jump the shark” signifies the point where the plot spins off absurdly, suggesting it’s all downhill from here…doesn’t mean the show actually ends, just the quality is poor. I’m guessing Julie is NOT a fan of Glee. Personally, I think it’s great!!!

      • HD

Betty Draper is correct. The term comes from the tv show Happy Days when Fonzie literally jumped a shark on his motorcyle changing tv and plausability forever.

      • Clay

Fonzie “jumped the shark” on water skis in ocean surf bedecked in his signature leather jacket. FTR, Happy Days stayed on air with high ratings for another six seasons (164 episodes) after that infamous episode. Jumped the shark?

      • JBD

Julie used “jump the shark” correctly, and I have to agree with her. Also, I think that they use way too much auto-tune this season. I re-watched Total Eclipse of the Heart, and that song sounded some much smoother than all these electronic, studio altered messes that they’ve been putting out.

I don’t think Glee has jumped the shark yet at all. Glee has always been a bit off-the-wall as are all Ryan Murphey shows (see Nip/Tuck and Popular). Betty Draper has it right. Jump the shark means the show has gotten so positively absurd that there’s no going back and the quality goes downhill from there. Many shows goes downhill without “jumping the shark” as the term usually refers to a specific moment.

Ooh, these sound awesome! Can’t wait. Wonder why if Mr. Schuester is out sick, then what is he doing singing on half the songs…but hey, I love the guy, I’m not complaining! :)

    • Carrie #2

Er, don’t need the “then.” The grammar nazi in me didn’t catch that before I posted.

  • Caio

Wow… This episode could be one of the best of the show, at least based on the songs selection.

Nowadays is a beautiful duet, and sounds great with both of them.

Forget you sounds fun and really good. Matthew is great, and I love the song. The only thing I don’t like is the mashup, the songs don’t seem to mix very well.

      wrong

      I know jon

  • Moira

I love Glee and usually don’t have any problems with their musical choices, but I really hate the Singin’/Umbrella mash-up. They don’t go together well (from the preview clip) and I don’t think that Singin’ is a song that should be messed with.

    • Verity

Yeah, have to agree with you there. I love both of those songs by themselves but they do not mash well together.

    • Elizabeth-Marie

I wouldn’t mind if they did the two SEPERATELY.

  • K

    Holly Holliday? ugh.

looking forward to Make ‘em Laugh though!

  • Joslyn

The mashup is TERRIBLE – by far their worst one yet. Ugh, hearing Singing in the Rain abused like that gives me hives.
The Gwyneth songs give me hope though, especially Nowadays.

  • Meow

Glad to see some ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ love! This is why Glee is great!

  • Munch

I agree that the ‘Forget You’ sounds promising, but it will be pretty tough to top last week’s ‘Teenage Dream’ – more Darren Criss please!!!

    • Annette

Teenage Dream sung by Darren Criss was really bad!

      • Moira

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold yer horses little lady. Those right there are fightin’ words. “Teenage Dream” was one of the best songs ever done by Glee. Not an opinion. It’s a fact. Okay, maybe it is an opinion–but it’s a right opinion.

      • Brandy

Must be tone deaf if you thought it was bad. It was excellent.

      • viddingwithkyle

It wasn’t bad by any means but calling it the “best ever” is pushing it. It was well done but I’ve heard better covers of that song.

    • Woot

I don’t like Forget You since it got so censored. It’s F**k you!

  • Ella

I’m a huge Singin in the Rain fan, so personally, the title song gets butchered to me. Yet, to be fair, Matthew Morrison sounds halfway decent on “Make ‘Em Laugh”

    • Janet

Oh God, it made me visibly cringe! Singin’ in the Rain is one of my favorite movies of all time, and that is so bad it needs to be taken out back and shot between the eyes. Thank God for Make Em’ Laugh, little silver lining there.

  • Vince

It pains me to hear Singing in the Rain modernized, sounds terrible. At least Make ‘Em Laugh sounds like it should.

  • Jane

Matthew Morrison and ANYTHING ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ is a brilliant combo!! Thanks, Glee!

    • Jess

definitely! just wish he couldve sung the original singing in the rain, the mashup sounds weird

  • Liz

Yikes! Singing in the Rain is one of my all time favorites so i am sad that it sounds poorly done. But the rest sound great!

  • Lemon

This show HAS jumped the shark. Stop with the guest stars already and get back to the story. The only thing resembling a continuous story arch is Kirk dealing with his sexuality. Remember when this show was fresh and charming? The principal is supposedly short-shrifting the Glee Club…and yet they appear to have this amazing costume department (with an astronomical budget) that specializes in Rocky Horror and Lady Gaga outfits. Are they’re not even written as fantasy sequences. I long for the days of them wearing jeans and t-shirts and singing “Don’t Stop Believin’”.

    • Malcolm

Whose Kirk? There is no one named Kirk on Glee! Oh wait, you mean Kurt? Are you even a fan if you can’t get one of the main characters name right?

      • Iliana

I bet you meant “Who’s Kirk?”. not “Whose Kirk?”… see, you made a typo, just like Lemon did.

      • JBD

        Kirk is from Gilmore Girls.

    • Chris L.

The kids supply there own coustums and sets. Watch “Vitamin D”….

      • Carrie

Sure they do. What girl doesn’t have a closet full of black leather in case she needs to sing ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’? Especially considering Rachel is a vegan.
