Nicole Richie heading to TV for comedy series: Anyone else hoping for 'The Simple Life'-level ridiculousness + skirt suits?

ABC confirmed to EW that Richie is heading to TV in a comedy series that she helped conceptualize and will star in. Of course, people who read her blog (table of one, please), knew this was a long-time coming. Almost one year ago, Richie wrote a blog post detailing her in-the-works project for the Alphabet network, saying, “The story revolves around a young, modern, and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships. She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman’s role is: modern vs. traditional.”

The single-cam comedy is being written by Jeff Rake, who worked on the 2003 Alicia Silverstone series Miss Match — which lasted 11 episodes. Bleak, I know. But I wouldn’t count this show out yet. As long as they steer clear of making this a trite comedy about over-dressed lawyers, perfectly coifed doctors, celebrity-shmoozing fashion designers, or, yes, magazine writers, this could be fun. Because Richie is entertaining. Admit it: The Simple Life was amusing and funny — at times. (Okay, I loved every minute, but I’m a little twisted.) I’d love to see a show that captures the same level of ridiculata in scripted format. The women don’t have to be glam — just real.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Do you see the possibilities? Will you join my Simple Life fan club of one? And would you give the show a chance?  (Additional reporting by Jennifer Armstrong)

Nicole was the best part of The Simple Life, no doubt. But that was Nicole being Nicole. This is scripted… so we’ll see. She’s good on Chuck. I’ll tune in to see what its like.

Love Her. Want to do disgusting things to her! All for it! Hope it’s edgy.

She really is pretty good on Chuck. All dependent on the concept and the scripts she could pull this off.

She’s rather competent at performing, I think. Now if the writing was good, it wouldn’t be a long shot.

Do we really care about her anymore? Your 2 seconds are up. GO away.

I actually like her. She was the only good thing about The Simple Life, and she’s cleaned up her life ever since she became a mom. And she was pretty good on Chuck. So there’s no reason why I shouldn’t at least check it out when it premieres. It’s mostly going to come down to the writing. Hopefully it will be good.

She did decently on Chuck. Kept forgetting it was her, actually.

So… as long as she steers clear of referencing the abomination that was Simple Life, and the abomination that continues to be Paris Hilton, a sitcom with her wouldn’t be all that bad.

I’m having trouble with the concept of Nicole conceptualizing.
