Did the boys vote for Dakota Fanning instead of their own girlfriends?

dakota-fanning-homecomingImage Credit: X17online.comCongratulations to Dakota Fanning, who last weekend was named homecoming queen at Campbell Hall Episcopal High in North Hollywood. It was hardly a surprise, as the actress also won the honor last fall as a junior. I have no doubt that Fanning, who by all accounts is a friendly, outgoing, considerate young woman, had plenty of earnest support among her classmates, but I can’t help but sympathize for her female rivals in the homecoming court. They never stood a chance. I blame the boys actually. Just look at the grin on her king, Henry Aleck. Every aspiring candidate for king had to consider the obvious: “I can vote for my sweet girlfriend of three years as queen and share a special moment if we’re both crowned, or I can anonymously vote for the world-famous actress and maybe have my face seen by millions of people around the globe.” What a dilemma! Actually, not really. Maybe next year, ladies?

I can’t believe I know this, but Dakota Fanning didn’t win homecoming queen last year. She won a secondary award that the Junior girls win. I think it is called princess.

Don’t you hate when you know random facts like that! I sometimes keep it to myself because I crumble trying to defend why I know these things.

  • Rolo Tomasi

Gee, a football player wins homecoming king, how cliche.

    • Aaron

Same can be said for the popular cute blonde/famous actress winning homecoming queen.

    • JOe

Someting needs to be done about the injustice of football players being rewarded for being popluar football players at football events!!!

Oh please, give it a break already. You were the same ones complaining in high school about how unfair it all was. It was not unfair to those of us who had the confidence to go for it. Just sayin. Enough with the poor unpopular kids stuff. Get busy and create something for yourself!

      • facue

Ginger, I think Joe was kidding

    • Steve P

Gee, a snarky comment from someone named Rolo, now thats cliche.

      • Regina Falangee

I doubt his name is Rolo Tomasi – did you not see “L.A. Confidential”?

      • RoyBatty

@Regina…yes, I have. Have you not seen Memento? :-)

    • chuck

thats because homecoming is based around a FOOTBALL game. A football player should be homecoming king

    • AngieLam18

Um, it’s high school, the who thing is a cliche!

      • AngieLam18

Clearly I meant “whole” and should type a little slower. :)

  • Matthew

oh man…it’s just a popularity contest…is there no integrity in today’s youth anymore?!?!?! Oh..by the Way SPOILER ALERT DWTS- Bristol Palin moves on….

  • lola

I’m sorry, but those other girls would have cut a bitch to be in the same position. At least as you acknowledge “by all accounts” she’s a nice girl. And maybe THAT makes this a triumph over the cliche.

  • Amanda

Wait, are we seriously discussing the results of a high school homecoming contest? The last time I remember having this conversations was, you know, when I was actually in high school. Oh celebrity culture, the things you make us believe are important.

    • Chris

Important enough for you to click on, read the article, and then comment on it. I’d say it’s very important in your life.

      • Portia

Hence her use of “us”, Chris. Sheesh.

I’m confused by this. I have never heard of a junior girl being Homecoming Queen. Nor have I heard of a junior being on the homecoming court at all, which I assume is what Homecoming Princess is. In my area, five senior girls are nominated for Queen. One of those is elected and the other four are then on the court. We don’t have a Princess at all and no juniors are involved. Is this a regional thing?

    • Jen

Different schools do it different ways. One of my high schools had one representative from each grade and five Seniors; at the the other school, Homecoming Court consisted of three Seniors only.

      • ‘k

OK, thanks for the clarification. If she was Homecoming Princess last year, then, I can’t see that it’s a big deal. It’s set up so a girl could win Princess as a Junior and Queen as a Senior. It’s probably even happened before.

      • Jen

Oh, and in addition to the Homecoming Queen, her runner-ups and the four underclass reps, we also had something called a Fire Queen. That school was ALL about handing out tiaras!

      • ‘k

Homecoming Queen I can take or leave. But Fire Queen is a title I totally covet!

      • Ginger

Can I be fire queen too? I sooo love a sparkly crown.

  • KarlHall

If Taylor Swift were in this high school, you can bet she’d have something to sing about.

  • Ray

Damn…just like my high school…the award winning actress gets it EVERYTIME!!

  • tracy bluth

Did anyone NOT expect the famous actress who has a role in the Twilight Saga to win? That’s almost as obvious as Surely Funke winning an inner beauty pageant.

  • facue

I think it’s pretty amazing she actually goes to a regular high school.

  • Ktct

Can Dakota Fanning’s parents please adopt Lindsay Lohan?

  • Galen Cadle

I too am surprised she attends a normal high school- good for her! I have three beautiful daughters of my own and wouild welcome Dakota into our family anyday.

  • Alexis

That boy looks a lot like Matt Saracen. Maybe its the football uniform. But still, I miss that boy!
