'Jonas L.A.' canceled: What should the Jonas Brothers do next?

jonas-LAImage Credit: DisneyBreaking the hearts of many tweens around the world, Disney has pulled the plug on the Jonas Brothers’ series Jonas L.A. Reports began circling over the weekend, after the show’s director Paul Hoen tweeted “Sadly no more Jonas L.A.” on November 6 (Hoen has since deleted the tweet). Disney confirmed with EW that there are no more new episodes of the show in the works. “The series has concluded as scheduled after two very successful seasons, and all original episodes of its second season have aired,” said a spokesperson for the network in a statement to EW. “The Jonas Brothers are currently busy wrapping up their 40+ city concert tour and will soon be back in the studio working on music projects for Disney’s Hollywood Records. We look forward to working with them on new projects in the future.” Over the course of this season’s 13 episodes, Jonas L.A. averaged 3.7 million total viewers, landing the series in the Top 5 programs for the tween demographic (ages 9-14).

So what’s next for the JoBros? Sure, they’ve proven they can draw sell-out crowds and sell millions of albums, but as the brothers grow up — and inevitably experiment with news styles of facial hair — will they still have a place at the kids’ table? In addition to their music, all three have been quietly pursuing other projects: Kevin was married last year, Nick released a solo album in January and later took to the stage in Les MisĂ©rables in London’s West End, while Joe has been flying solo on television shows like Hot in Cleveland and 90210.

The end of Jonas L.A. is just another bump in a slew of successful Disney Channel franchises. Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana is scheduled to end next spring, while Demi LoVato‘s Sonny With a Chance could potentially be put on hold, which may signify the end of the current Disney Channel era. The network has watched its former tween stars like Shia LaBeouf and Hilary Duff successfully transition into more adult roles (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Gossip Girl), but will each of the Jonas Brothers do the same? Should Nick take on more musical theater? What about Joe becoming a regular on a teen soap or tackling a gritty indie movie? Can the Jonas Brothers step outside of their current Disney images, or will they perpetually be those cute boys next door who you could always call to help put together a bookshelf?

Will you miss Jonas L.A., PopWatchers, or is it time for the brothers to say goodbye to the Mouse House for good?

I really enjoyed the Joe/Stella relationship, and I’m sad there will be no resolution to that.

    • lefty

I thought the last episode had them finally together?

      • Tori

You’re right. They told each other I love you in the very last episode.

      • Kristen

She ran off to the airport to head back to NJ though after the ILYs. The last episode had him running after her. So, no conclusion.

      • Fan

In the last episode, he caught her at the airport, and they told each other I love you and it ended with all of them together at the beach concert, so pretty fitting end to the series

      • Diane

Kristen-You missed the final. Long story short-he caught her, they all performed together and then talked about how they were going to handle things

      • Kristen

Oh ok! I didn’t realize there was another episode. I just watched it. At least there was closure! A nice ending I thought.
Thanks for letting me know there was another.

  • “What should the Jonas Bros do next?”

    Save their money, hopefully.
    They’re gonna need every penny.

Nick will be all right. He actually has talent. He’ll work in music as an artist or a producer. Joe will wind up in rehab, and Kevin will battle his wife in court when she gets tired of sleeping in separate rooms and pretending he’s straight.

      • Krystal

oh em gee. That made me laugh sooo hard.

      • emil

        lol!!!!!!!!

“…all three have been quietly pursuing other projects: Kevin was married last year…”

Love how this sentence made his marriage seem like another project he was taking on, as if it were a solo album or re-tiling the bathroom or something.

      • Jo

        Booooooooring and unfunny!

      • heather

and Tag or whatever your name is…not nice. if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. they’ll all do fine.

      • Lauren

Lol! So true Tag. Love it

      • anya

        Lol so funny.

    • Rush

Not to worry. Disney will be replaying this pablum ad nauseum on a daily basis. I’m surprised most kids don’t have the scripts memorized already.

  • Ceballos

    NNnnnnoooooooo!!!

  • Roekest

To answer the question posed in the headline: How about just “go away”?

    • Pushabutton

Buy a clue (since one of these dirtbags was on a talkshow trashing Bob Dylan), then crawl under a rock and die. One more generation of Disney kids gone, and good riddance.

      • Dragonette

Well, I don’t know why you’re being so hateful, pushabutton. Someone needs to die because they don’t like Bob Dylan? Well, then kill me because I never have liked Bob Dylan myself. His voice, to me does sound like nails on a chalkboard. I do however like the Jonas Brothers, and I’m 33. At least Joe Jonas never wrote a song pitying a piece of murdering crap like Joey Gallo. (Look him up).

    • psychokittyd

i so agree with that sentiment. and of course joe will end up in rehab, kevin will finally come out of the closet in 10 years after the paparazzi catch him having an affair with a man, and nick will go on a talk show explaining what really went on behind the scenes of the jobros concerts: drunken Disney star orgies, heavy cocaine usage and incest.

  • dipshat

Yep, their dead and gone. Sad, i would way rather have them than Justin Bieber. Oh well.

    • lefty

      …just like you’re grammar.

      • the other Anne

I so hope that you intended to be sarcastic by using an improper word to point out someone’s grammar flaws. However, if you did not realize that “you’re” should really be “your,” then perhaps you should not throw grammar stones.

      • lefty

        tongue in cheeeek

  • rrnwt

    i like them very much.

  • john

can i get an order of 1 DWTS and 2 sides of Rehab to go please

    • kath467

      ROFL

  • Marie

well at least the show ended because they are too busy doing other things, because Disney Channel shows don’t usually get cancelled for low ratings!!

  • Preston

Don’t make no more TV shows. They know they’re sorry in them! So they should go back to making music and recording albums. I’m sure that some people are suffering from Jonas Brothers fatigue, too much of their image out there. I’m sure the ratings fell and tanked every week. And plus their former tween fanbase is getting older and they moved on to other music artists just as Justin Bieber and more mature pop fare.

  • Gossip Gurl

The Disney channel mega machine ( Hannah Montana, Jonas, High School Musical, Sonny with a chance of meatballs, And That Magic show with the spanish family) is now ending it’ rein of terror among us adults. WHOOOOO

    • WTF?

Yup. And all that’s left in the aftermath is a generation of vapid, deluded, whiny, entitled kids who will turn into horrifying adults. Thanks Disney!

  • Cygnus

The 15 mins are over. Go sit in the next room with Hanson brothers.

    • Lucy

Pretty sure Hanson just put out their 8th studio album, and are currently on tour. The Jonas Brothers should hope to be as lucky as Hanson.

      • Erin

Well considering the fact that the Jonas Brothers already have 4 albums out, that makes them halfway there to being “as lucky as Hanson”.

      • Stella

Well… except that Hanson own their own record company and two recording studios. They basically own their career. Not sure if that’s true of the Jonases.

  • Liz

my friend send me a text message about this – awe this is heartbreaking :(

  • Samantha

The show didn’t exactly get ~canceled. Their contract as Disney channel stars is up. They’re grown men now. They might still have a recording contract with Hollywood Records, but so do many other artists that don’t have Disney shows (like The Plain White T’s, and Queen!). It’s time for them to tackle adult projects like the adults that they are. Joe has a solo album coming up that Disney wouldn’t touch in a million years. Way too sexy. They’ll be just fine.

  • Tye-Grr

BAHAHAHAHAHA! Remember back at the peak of their popularity when they managed to score a Best New Artist Grammy nomination? Me neither. >_>

    • Shurly

      lmao !! That’s mean !!

  • Lisa

    Jonas WHO?
