Poll: How did Conan O'Brien fare on opening night?

conan-obrienImage Credit: Meghan SinclairLadies and gentleman, our long national nightmare is over. After more than nine months in the wilderness — and by wilderness, I mean everywhere but late-night TV — Conan O’Brien is back on the air. Last night’s premiere on TBS was classic Conan, though Ken Tucker points out it was as underwhelming as it was pleasant. It remains to be seen how O’Brien will distinguish himself from his rivals, old and new, but for one night, at least, Team Coco and TBS were the center of the entertainment universe.

What did you make of O’Brien’s debut? Vote and sound off below.

  • The Jackal

Those are the only three choices. I liked it but didn’t feel the need to watch the cold opening three times this morning

    • Lay Jeno

The current version/host of the Tonight Show is still better.

      • LMAO U JELLY?

jay leno fans are fat, pressed virgins who voted for the tea party. sit down!

      • darrin

i didn’t know old people knew how to use the internet?

      • Holly

What is a “pressed virgin”? Is that a virgin who has been laundered and ironed? And what is “LMAO U JELLY” mean? Is that a mock-name for Leno? “Jelly”? I’ve never heard that one before. But let me say, I do agree that Leno can suck it.

    • Krystal

Yeah that is how I felt. Liked it but three times? Geez.

    • Cygnus

What, no fourth option to vote “Didnt watch it, don’t care”?

      • Pat

Why did you even click on the link to this article and post about it if you don’t care about this? hmm!

      • Pat the annoying “hmm” guy

        Hmmm, seriously? Mm, Ok. Really?!

  • Karen N.

I’m so happy for Conan, and I’m happy for “Conan.”!

    I’m so glad he’s back.

  • Brigette

I thought it was great. Conan seemed happy to the point of giddiness. I loved how playful and goofy he was, I loved how he hammed it up with the audience, and loved that he sang at the end. I don’t know how anyone could have been “underwhelmed.” What did Tucker expect, fireworks? It was just right.

    • Big Walt

The audience (studio) was too small. It looked to be about half the size of his old one.

Anyone know why he didn’t move back to New York for this show?

      • JayKay

His staff all moved out to LA for the Tonight Show, and he didn’t want to uproot them yet again.

      • PJ

Yeah, what’s the deal. It looks like Lopez’s studio is huge.

      • K

Because they all uprooted their families and lives a little over a year ago to go to LA. I read somewhere that the design of the audience seating was based on the venues they liked the most during the tour.

  • Nick Makris

The questions on this Pop Watch poll are leading questions. There are no options to choose a simple strong yes for Conan’s 1st show. Therefore this is a push poll intended to hinder Conan’s chances to succeed. So, who’s funding this scam?

Ken Tucker. He’s a pressed bitch

    • Randy Quaid

      Beware the Star-Whackers…

  • aa915

I wish him well (why not?), but I wasn’t quite curious enough to stay up and watch. Which is not to say I never will, but I never understood why there was so much interest (let alone drama) over a couple of bickering millionaires to begin with.

  • John

I went with the great because the other two choices were more negative than middle of the road. I will check out the monologue and watch more the next day on DVR.

  • IMO

Given that he had months to prepare for this first episode, it was pretty disappointing to say the least. Hopefully he’ll pick up over time, but for now I’ll stick to the tried and true Jon Stewart/Colbert combo.

  • mplsred

I enjoyed the show, I agree with Brigette, he was happy to be back where he was. It will be great to see how he settles in. I think the audience was really pumped to be there. I am thrilled for him, he deserves it! The guests were ok, he seemed too thrilled to have any type of meaningful conversation, but the musical number with Jack White was excellent. It was fun to see Conan rocking out!!

  • Arlaee

I LOVED IT…i love conan, and im team coco all the way!!!!

  • Julie

I watched his show for ten minutes and gave up it and went back to the Daily Show. Jon Stewart knows how to deliver the funnies. Conan…..not so much.

  • marjo

the opening was the best part. I enjoyed the show but the guests were rushed and sub-par, the music bored me, by then I was ready to go to bed. Glad he’s back, but Jon Stewart is funnier.

    • Ed

Yeah, Conan himself was fun but the guests were dull and easily the lowlight of the show.

      • Me Fail English?

Tonight’s guests are much better: Tom Hanks, Jack McBrayer (30 Rock’s Kenneth)… and Soundgarden(!)

  • patrick

He kicked ass! Way better than jay leno and letterman! Shouldn’t of let him go night show… now sit back and watch him destroy you in the ratings ha ha!

  • Cynthia

Conan rocked it. Period. So nice to laugh again during late night tv!

  • Jerry

Great comments about the limited “push” polling here. I’m with Team Coco: even 10 minutes with Conan is more enjoable than any amount of time with Jay. Yes, the studio room felt a little claustrophobic. Too bad Max didn’t make it, but Conan, Andy, the Basic Cable band, the skits, the guests, all made for a fast hour. Many great moments – loved Conan’s summer temp job gigs in fast food and as a clown – and how gratifying to see the Masturbating Bear found a very satisfying new position (profsesionally, that is).

  • Victoria

I can’t stand Conan. The way he keeps licking his lips constantly is a turnoff. Also, he’s not funny.

Then don’t watch it? Nobody asked you to.

      • Amy

Shut up! This is a comment section. Conan sucks!
