Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Nicaragua': Episode 8

survivorImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBSI finally figured out Naonka.  At last.  After 7 weeks, it all makes sense now.

More on that later.  But first…

THE MERGE
Every season we look for new ways to merge the tribe.  After 21 seasons I’m the first to admit that coming up with fresh twists or new wrinkles in the game is one of our biggest challenges.  We spend a lot of time talking, brainstorming – searching for those new little moments.

Since the contestants can always sense when the merge is coming, all we can really do with the merge is try our best to find a clever way to reveal it.

Using the combination of key and chest was a nice new twist.  Nothing earth-shattering but it lets the tribe know they are merging and yet still carries a bit of mystery.  What is the purpose of the key?  What’s in the box? In this case it opened a chest containing a merge feast along with their new buffs.  Which brings up another question…

Why do we give them food at the merge?  Why do we give them food at all?  Why not just let them find their own food.

We give them food because they need it… they deserve it… and most importantly, it’s good for morale.  When the contestants become too dehydrated or too hungry or too depleted overall, their morale drops and the game suffers.  That’s not good for us or them.

Trust me, you can give them all the food you want, so long as it only lasts for a few hours or even a day or two, it doesn’t make much difference.  The amount of calories they are living on is minuscule.  Typically, a few spoonfuls of rice.  Not much.

The merge itself represents a turning point in the game.  The merge is a reset.  The impact of the merge has changed over the many years Survivor has been played.

Initially, the merge signaled the beginning of the individual portion of the game.  You would compete in individual challenges for individual rewards.  If you were good you could win your way to the end and nothing could stop you.  But as alliances began to take hold, the merge began to morph into something else.  Now you needed the “numbers” in order to stay strong.

When the hidden immunity idol was introduced, the impact of the merge shifted again.  Now if you had the numbers and an “idol” you had a very good shot of getting very deep into the game.  It’s part of what makes Survivor fun, it is always evolving.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
I’m so proud to tell you that the Immunity Challenge was created by Edwin Davis.  Edwin has been on our show for years.  He started as a Dreamteamer, testing the challenges.  He was a very nice kid.  He was heavy.  He was a little shy.  He spoke very little English.  Over the years, Edwin has changed quite a bit.  He has leaned out and gotten very healthy.  The dude is a stud.  His English is fantastic and from a career point of view, he has moved up the ranks and is now creating challenges!!  The career opportunities that exist on Survivor are one of the greatest aspects of being a part of the show.  We have so many young people that have started as Dreamteamers and are now full-fledged crew members.  Last count, 10% of our entire crew was made up of former Dreamteamers.  Awesome.  I love seeing young people bloom.

JANE
Speaking of blooming… are you falling in love with Jane the same way I am?  I like it all – from the comment about her shotgun…

Jane:  I’ve got dogs that live in the yard.  I feel very safe…. Plus I’ve got a shotgun.

…to how she trained for the show by running the stairs at her house… to doing P90X.  Have you ever done P90X?  Killer work out.  It will kick your ass for sure and you can do it from home with only a few bands.  I’m not preaching but your body is your temple.  You wanna live a long life, you have to take care of yourself.

Okay, back to Jane.  Her effort at the immunity challenge was one of the most inspirational and impressive things this season.  I think had we continued she would have defeated Fabio, too!

Jane has lived a hard life.  It shows in her face.  At times it shows in her attitude.  But if you want somebody in that foxhole with you, Jane’s not a bad choice.

Marty is hollering that they should vote her out, but nobody is listening.  He’s right.  If “the little old lady from North Carolina” gets to the end, she has a very good shot at winning.  Marty’s problem is… he is always hollering.

NAONKA NAONKA NAONKA…
Okay as I said earlier, I’ve figured out Naonka.  I’m no longer surprised by anything Naonka says or does… because… did I say this already…? I finally figured her out! Eureka!

Are you ready…?  Here it is…

From a maturity point of view, Naonka is a seven-year-old. That’s it.  That’s my big discovery.

When dealing with Naonka you simply have to treat her as you would a first-grader.  Think about it.  She’s selfish.  She’s a know-it-all.  She’s defiant.  She’s a rule tester.  She denies everything and only apologizes when she is actually caught doing something.  She behaves in every conceivable way as though she were seven years old.

That’s why, at the end of the day, people like Brenda can still find her a little charming.  They see her like I do, like a small child.  Who can be mad at a small child?  It’s not the most flattering thing to say about a twenty-something, but I do believe it’s true.  I’m not defending her actions – not at all – but it does make it easier for me to relate to her at tribal council.

Even I have to admit…stealing the food was one of the most brazen things I’ve ever seen on our show.  Outright crazy until you remember, she’s only seven.

MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS EXPLAINS ALINA’S BEHAVIOR
At first glance you could say that Alina made a bad move taking part in Naonka’s stealing of food, because it made it so easy to justify voting her out.  But was it anything more than basic human nature?  Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs lists Physiological Needs (which includes food) as our most basic need.  You get really hungry and you’ll do pretty much anything to get some food.  At the lower end of the Hierarchy of Needs list is “Esteem” which includes… respect of others (which relates directly to Survivor.)   In other words, when you’re really hungry, food will blind you to common sense and next thing you know you’re stealing food even though your subconscious knows there is a consequence waiting for you just around the corner.  Alina’s not dumb.  She knew she would pay for that action.  Her hunger just won out.

My take on Alina:  She’s much sharper than most women her age.  She’s a player for sure and a good player.  Did Alina act shady?  No more than anybody else who has ever played Survivor.  She was just playing the game.  Everybody has a strategy.  Everybody is “playing the game.”

It’s a fascinating facet of humans.  Our ability to judge others for doing the same thing we would do in the same situation.  All of these knuckleheads are playing the game, but when anybody else does it – they’re shady.  By the way, I looked up “dirt squirrel,” which is what Benry called Alina when he voted for her – not a very nice term and not sure what it has to do with Survivor.  Either way, Alina is gone.

But the craziest thing of this episode…..?

Naonka is still in the game!!!!  Could Naonka make it to the end?   Time will tell.

See ya next week.

Jeff, you’re absolutely right, all Marty does is holler. I dont know why he bothered ranting about Jane because everyone knows they hate each other and everyone knows he is desperate. It’s the same reason he went off more than others at NaOnka – both flimsy attempts to take attention off himself. Jane is the only likeable person even on the show. Maybe Holly and Chase. But the rest…

Will the show continue after next season? If so, please cast me instead of these retards off the street who have never seen an episode until they were picked for the show. I’ve applied 18 times, and am actually a fan!

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

This week was just as boring and predictable as last week. The people in charge of choosing contestants are at fault here. I can bring interesting strategy twists that I come up with in my head, that I never see anyone do. For example, last week I mentioned, how I would have played the idol if I were Marty. I have other unbelievable strategies that I have not even seen from the best survivors (Russell). I tried numerous times to get on this show, but instead they choose crap. I even tried to apply on the online contest. They wanted us to come up with a creative video and it can only last for one minute. How creative can you get in just one minute? It’s not as easy as you think. In fact, I believe there were over 3000 videos that were submitted online. I have seen them all and about 90% were crap. The judges were supposed to take the 10 best videos. Jimmy T. ended up winning, and his video was crappier than his game play, and everyone has seen his game play. I am not trying to boast but it took me a lot of time and thought to come up with a creative minute video and I believe that mine was a top ten. I ended up doing magic in my video while explaining why I would be the best survivor. I compared myself to Russell. Russell was the best survivor. However he was like a balloon with a needle. You piss people off and stab people in the back and the balloon pops. And that’s what I showed. Then I mentioned that there are ways to stab people in the back and get away with it, and I showed the needle passing thru the balloon without popping. In the minute video I also showed that I had brutal strength using magic and humor. I also mentioned that I was great at making fire by magically having fire appear out of my hand. It ended off very funny with the smoke alarm going off. I am not a techie so I didn’t do any fancy stuff with the camera. I am also not a magician, so it took me some time to learn these tricks and going to the magic store. To get all of this creativeness into a minute video and to come up with a script was almost impossible. I didn’t hire anyone to help me, I just thought of it all up and did it. I was pissed off that I worked so hard and they chose crappy videos. It was so obvious (anyone that has seen the videos knows what I am talking about) that the judges did not look at or consider other videos. My point for all of this is that there are people that are great and creative strategists that apply to this show , and never get noticed. While on the other hand they end up taking, well look at the contestants this season.

      • Clt

I was offended when I found out about Dan’s casting. I’d prefer to watch a real fan too.

      • wtf

        @TheBest

u watched 3000 videos? get some life dude

      • Probst4Ever

I know why Jeff wanted Jimmy Johnson on the show. He wanted to test the waters, preparing for the day when he himself becomes a contestant. I’m a believer.
If Marty wants to stay in the game based on being jury-vote-poison he’s going to have to out-naonka Naonka. That’s going to be a difficult task at this rate. Steal the shelter maybe?

      • Little Lady

        @TheBEST

Maybe you didn’t have a top 10 video submission because you did magic. It wasn’t a 7 year olds birthday party. . .

      • Sonner

        @TheBest

Let us see your video. Give us the link.

      • kylla

It’s because your ugly, very ugly.

        I’m just kidding

(but I bet you are ugly)

      • Rob

        @TheBest
Unless you are Barney Stinson you should NEVER do magic. Your video sounds like a top 1000 not top 10. Besides just saying you were funny and awesome doesn’t mean you really were.

      • Pat

2 Jeff S & thebestwhatever: with your egomaniacal attitudes, thank goodness we haven’t had to endure you on the show.

      • Ian

You did magic in the video and compared yourself to Russell, explaining how you’re so very similar to someone who has already been on the show….TWICE….and you can’t figure out how you got nowhere in the casting process??? Seriously, you can’t figure it out??? Perhaps they have an IQ prerequisite. “In the minute video I also showed that I had brutal strength using magic and humor.” — You say something like this, and STILL can’t figure out why they don’t want you on the show??? Is you post a joke that I’m not getting, or does your brain really function this badly and naively?

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Sonner – CBS took al the videos off their website once the contest was over, however I also saved it on youtube

      • Opie

So tell us how to find it – granted you’ve built it up to the point that we will hate it, but if it’s top 10 worthy it is obvious.

But guess what, Russell is an idiot. Exact same strategy in 2 shows, exact same results, but he thinks he was the best ever and you believed him.

      • Liza

This is a reply to BestPlayer, it’s really easy when you are sitting at home to say you could’ve come up with a better strategy than the people in the game. You are sitting in a nice home with a roof and walls separating you from the elements, and most likely a belly full of food and a good night’s rest behind you. I agree this season has some real duds for players. From the first episode I had a bad feeling about it, and any other true survivor fan like myself saw the same thing. But, please, you have to understand that we see everything that is going on, or almost everything that is important. Thanks to the editing of the episodes we are treated to the shuffling of alliances and the choices of cast offs.If you don’t know what those two people over there are planning or what your own alliance has in store for you than how can tell when to play an idol? Or, when to break ties, create new ones, or be brutally honest at tribal? You don’t, because you can’t see what is happening all over. The only way you can be that good is if you are psychic and I highly doubt this. Also, I agree that Russell is up there as one of the best players of the game to never win but please don’t say you are like him. He is truly one of a kind and I doubt we will see the likes of him ever again.
On a side note, I’ve been a huge fan of survivor from the very beginning, I don’t want to play b/c I’m a girly girl and I can’t see myself going so long without my makeup and sleeping in dirt. I know that sounds dumb but given the opportunity I would never say no. My boyfriend on the other hand would be perfect for this show. He has applied and has made videos for years and, nothing. He’s a young, fit, and highly intelligent man who could win on charm alone. He’s a great example of how unfair the casting process can be, so please don’t think you are the only one who has been overlooked.

      • Alex

“It’s a fascinating facet of humans. Our ability to judge others for doing the same thing we would do in the same situation. All of these knuckleheads are playing the game, but when anybody else does it – they’re shady.”
I hate truisms but one that works time and again for me is this:
You forgive in yourself what you can’t forgive in others, and you forgive in others what you can’t forgive in yourself.
        Truly.
Read this one in a Richard Dreyfuss interview, of all people.

      • Dr. Zechariah Zenith

Too bad Alina is gone. If she was team-up with someone like Russell or Parvati, she probably has a chance.

But this group is so much into HATE that they hate her from the start. Sure she tries to put her strategy up front but it just so happens to be the wrong group.

Too bad we can’t few Ponderosa, something prevent me from watching it.

The only people I like from the show is Chase and Jane.

On my part, NaOnka is now MOST HATED SURVIVOR ever. She is just pure evil.

      • Linda

I’m sure using the term “retards” really helped your cause there, bub. Ai yi yi.

    • darclyte

Jane? Really? I don’t find her likeable at all. Not many of these people are particularly likeable though. Chase and Fabio seem to be the easiest to hang out with, and Brenda wouldn’t be bad to hang with as long as she wasn’t scheming.

      • donknottz

She’s like a lost tea party member out there. Meth is one hell of a drug, Rick Jane Bi tch

      • wtf

not being a fat cow doesnt neccessarily make someone a meth user

      • donknottz

Hey wtf I’m a vegan I know all about not being a fat cow. She looks like she should be on Breaking Bad.

      • D

I knew there was something about her. Yeah, she looks like an ex-meth addict for sure. Not saying she IS. She just looks like one.

      • AB

@The Best: you sound about as obnxious and self centered and deluded as Jimmy T. You’ll never get cast, dude, get over it.

      • redriding

Totally agree. How is Jane likeable. She is super fake. Did anyone notice how she told Chase that the oldies didnt like her because of her accent! What a hypocrite she is. So irritatingly boring and predictable she is

Marty is amazing! How on earth did he manage to save this ass three times in a row. Brilliant stuff from him.

Jeff….are you jealous of Marty? I cant think of another explanation for you not giving him credit at all this season.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Thanks AB for the compliment. I am obnxious and self centered.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

redriding- Marty does not deserve any credit. He does not know how to play the game. The only reason he is still alive, because he is at the mercy of the other players that also do not know the game.

      • Liza

I don’t like Jane either, it’s not really her fault. I’m actually a dog lover as well and I like to work out but I also grew up in Oklahoma. She reminds me of the old white ladies who still use the n-word or describe anyone who is non white as colored. They were also quite prejudiced against gay people. Now she may be totally the opposite but I can’t help but make the correlation. I guess that makes me just as bad, if she makes it farther I won’t be rooting against her but I won’t be rooting for her either.

      • Dave

I don’t see why people like jane either. Her anger towards Marty seems irrational and petty.

      • CaptainStimpy

Totally agree! I don’t get the Jane love. I find her obnoxious – her fake little dances, her Southern superiority complex (seems very insecure), her (seemingly) irrational hatred of Marty. I cringe everytime she opens her mouth. I did find her performance @ the immunity challenge admirable. I do like Marty & think he is playing the best game given the circumstances. Stating he would vote for Jane to win the million was a great move – you could see it got Sash & Brenda thinking. For me, I enjoy Fabio the most. He’s hilarious, honest, & very likable. NaOnka on the other hand…

      • wendy

I really dislike Jane too. She’s so vindictive and spiteful of Marty. Marty is really not that bad. He’s honest and upfront about wanting to win and what’s wrong with that? Jane is sneaky and bitchy. On screen she comes across as a bitter old woman who can’t see her own faults. I hope she goes soon because I think she is very petty and negative.

Your rant is very reflective of the day to day stuff Espada put up with from Jimmy T.

        TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay:

You should now use your time to study “Paragraphs”

      • CaptainStimpy

Are you for real Dude? Seriously, you have to be joking! Is that you Jimmy T? Talk about people acting like 7 year olds.

      • Frank

Best- Good 1 minute vedeo. Better than I expected.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

        Frank – Thanks

    • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Are those real muscles on Dan? You would think that with those muscles he would have gone far in that challenge. He is pathetic. Jane an 80 myear old woman who beat out all the men in that physical challenge? Wow!

      • dougp

It was impressive but at the same time Jane was being really stupid. Her showing off put a big target on her back.

      • bamagal0846

I am glad she did show of -now they have reason to get rid of her- then maybe Marty gets to stay and play as he is one of the few playing the game

      • ifindthebestplayer2neverplayreallystupid

if russel was so good he would have won.

      • CaptainStimpy

Winning does not necesarily predicate good play. There are numerous examples of this: Sandra x2, Boston Rob, Vecepia, Colby.

    • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

WTF – this is a reply to you. It was a waste of time watching all those videos, the only reason I did it was because I thought I had a great shot at winning

      • Yasmin

i hope you get a shot at playing Survivor one day, if only because you’re so confident and self-assured.

      • Drew

I agree with Yasmin. I think you would make a real interesting character to watch on the show. One other thing, could you send us a link to your video?

      • wtf

I would so love to see this video. I can imagine u as a interesting survivor actually. The delusions of grandeur I sense coming from u seem pretty close to Jimmy T., Coach Wade, and Russell.
Here’s a thought for u dude: WE ALL ARE ARMCHAIR SURVIVORS. We all come up with stuff u never see on the show.
I suggest u try once more to get on survivor, and when that fails, kill yourself

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

The video was not allowed to be more than 1 minute long. You were also not allowed to have anyone else in the video. There were a bunch of other criteria as well. It was very difficult to come up with a creaative video in one minute. The judges were supposed to take the top 10 videos and people were supposed to then vote on the best one. If anyone was part of this online contest knows that there is no way they chose the top 10. I am not saying my video was top ten but it sure heck beat the other videos they chose as top ten. Out of the 3000 plus videos, most were crap. There were around 40 – 50 great ones. There was only one great one that they chose as a top ten and he did not end up winning. Everyone who was part of this process knows something was fishy. Someone had mentioned that the top ten were predetermined and that they had taken recruits. Once I started to talk to people about it on CBS’s website they took all of our messages down. Deleted them completly and we were booted off immediatly. What happened to free speech? I and everyone that was talking about this being fixed, were never allowed to login to CBS website again. I still cant login to CBS website from any computer in my house because the took my IP address. I’m sure I burned my bridges from ever getting on this show, but I guess that’s life.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Drew I put the link on here but I dont think that they will allow that. It looks like they took it down. If you send me an email on my aol acct. I will email you a link. Email me dsa4344937 aol.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Just don’t compare me to Jimmy T. He was not a good strategizer. Coach was only fair at best. Russell was the best in getting to the end but did not know how to win the whole thing.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Sorry Drew you cant leave a link here. It was up for about 20 minutes yesterday and then it was taken down. You will have to go to youtube and search: watch?v=D6IVCFraxJE

    • Trina

Well Marty can holler all he wants baby – its working! Its worked 4 times in a row now!

Jane sucks! She is so annoying. Cant believe anyone can find her charming!

    • kk

My 7 year old wouldn’t steal. Just sayin’

      • Bobby F

Mine wouldn’t either. Or be as self centered, selfish, prejudiced (especially to handicapped people). btw, aren’t most kids, especially girls at that age, more sympathetic to people with handicapped or who are sick? I know mine would be.

      • Nora

My seven year old wouldn’t steal either, and would receive a good dose of discipline for any of a number of things I have seen Naonka do, but I had to laugh out loud at Jeff’s comparison. I don’t know why but I am still chuckling. Maybe it is the stress of finding my son’s lost shoes three feet away from him this morning.

Enjoy the age–they grow up too fast!

      • Jean Guy Levesque

Naonka is a dirty thief, I just wish someone would punch that loudmouth in the face. So full of crap and spewing ignorant confidence when it’s plain clear she’s dumb as a piece of dead wood. Vive la Quebec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Saga

Great point. Na-biotch had no parenting. However, neither did I and I am university educated, wife and mom to an awesome boy.
Can’t ‘blame’ her parents; she’s a bad seed!

      • Saga

Yeah. Where? Poor ghetto kids. That dumb bitch would be in tears to face a parent like me!
She’d live in fear of losing her job. Wait! She probably is.

    • Lee

Holly? How quickly forget this was the woman who stole Dan’s $1500 alligator shoes. filled them with sand, and then dumped them in the water. Holly is not likeable–she’s a nutcase. I’ll take Brenda over Holly anyday. I don’t understand why people aren’t liking Brenda. Is it because they figured she’s a horrible person through associaton with Na’Onka? How shallow can you be. Brenda hasn’t really upset anyone except Marty and that was only because Marty the alpha-male doesn’t like to be called out at tribal council–especially by a woman.

      • Duck

Agree. Brenda is playing a great game. Marty knows he is going home soon. I think that is why he attacked Jane at the finals. It was a good point actually. She probably would win if she gets to the end. Brenda is playing big while staying below the radar.

      • Saga

Hmm..maybe we aren’t watching the same brenda. The one I watch stinks like witch! No offense to witches. Lol

      • Drew

Holly is a real nutter. I hope she goes soon.

      • captain obvious

Brenda and Marty are the only two with a brain playing this game. Marty is a little too loud for his own good-and didnt get enough numbers right from the start. Naonka and Holly are nuts.Dan is useless- they should all be gone. Im left cheering for Fabio-simply because hes a likeable person playing a half decent game. Kelly Purple sees so little camera time…despite being hot. Pretty bad casting all around, Outside of maybe Marty- I dont see any future allstars here.

  • christie

is it just me or is this Ponderosa one of the nicest y’all have ever used? usually it looks like some place y’all buitl out in the jungle, but this place looks like a resort!

    • lisasp

I just watched the video and I agree…that Ponderosa was definitely pre-existing.

    • notesfromthemorningmeeting

agreed…a ponderosa worth getting booted for

      • Saga

Where do you see this video of the ponderosa?

      • CaptainStimpy

  • Big Daddy

Good analysis on Naonka – a seven year old. Still just a playground bully though.

    • No No

Stop insulting 7 year olds. My kid is seven and she is friendly, curious and cares about other people. A brat is a brat is a Brat at any age.

      • Navigator

Agreed. Quite the insult to the kiddos.

      • elr

I agree too! What an insult to 7-year olds. To me she is nothing more than a psycho.

    • Peter

I have a sister-in-law that is just about to graduate from HS. NaOnka reminds me of her. We call her a “feral child” because her parental involvement is about zero. (she’s the 7th child, my wife was 1st and actually had some parental involvement).

This is the kind of person that comes out of no-parents. There is no progression past a feral 7 year old. A 7 year old with good parents would not be this bad.

    • toni

if she’s a 7 yr old then she is the Bad seed. She is just one hateful creature, to think that she is a teacher! Scarey.

    • rory

Hard to believe and extremely troubling to note that Naonke is a teacher. Heaven help our educational system in this country.

    • Jean Guy Levesque

Naonka is a dirty thief, I just wish someone would punch that loudmouth in the face. So full of crap and spewing ignorant confidence when it’s plain clear she’s dumb as a piece of dead wood. Vive la Quebec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ally

This cast is completely frustrating me and turning me off to the point where I don’t want anyone to win the title. That is unusual- only happened two other times and I have always watched the game. Disappointing cast and season.

    • Lil Tuts

Why? What are they doing that’s so bad?

      • Miranda

What are they doing that’s so bad? Nothing! They are some of the most blah, boring people they’ve ever had on the show. Other than Marty and Naonka both being a pain in the butt there’s nobody of any interest. Maybe Jane, right now she’s the only one on the interest list. I’ve never gone this far into a season without choosing someone to root for but I still don’t care, well as long as it’s not Marty or Naonka but for the rest who cares?

      • gkslasvegas

I’m actually starting to hope Naonka stays (not wins!) – – at least she’s making this season interesting. Everybody else is boring.

      • Saga

Lil tits: what they are doing wrong is showing their ugly colors. I wonder tho if the casting crew was wanting 99% of their ‘survivors’ to be douche-bags. If so they got their picks down! Lol

    • Karen

I agree that this is a frustrating & almost unwatchable season. So disappointing. What they are doing that’s so bad is being boring!

      • D

Kelly Purple is offender #1 in that regard.

    • orreljw

Couldn’t it be that we, the fans, were just really really spoiled last year with the BEST season EVER? I agree this group is no where near as interesting as usual, but I am pretty sure MY expectations coming into this season were set far too high based on last season.

      • Pat

Well, last season was all-stars so of course it was great (except for Russell).

      • dawnomite

        Last season was pretty overrated.

      • Saga

The challenges need to be more physical. Why aren’t they utilizing the ocean?
I hated russell and goofy haired ‘coach’ both times. Pls never put them on again. Lol

    • pjmprz

I couldn’t agree more. I have seen every episode and love the show. I would say this cast is less enjoyable to watch then Thailand and Gabon put together. no one left in this game is worthy. You truly get the impression that these people just dumb lucked there way on to the show. they seriously could have done a much better job casting!

  • Al

Gee, a 7 year old as a PE teacher. Really, I hope that the school system that hired her is totally embarrassed by this…..

    • D.

I agree…I had a bit of a rant tonight about how if I would fire her if I was the principal of her school…what kind of an example is she setting for the students watching? Disgraceful behaviour…I can only hope she learns from this and maybe takes this opportunity to grow and mature.

      • orreljw

This IS Suvivor. Beghavior on this show should have NO effect on the contestant’s personal lives. The tag line is outwit, outplay, outlast. Nothing says outlove or outintegrity anything. I just feel that the underhanded players are the far more interesting ones and underhanded is a valid game play choice in Survivor.

      • jen

She is not really a PE teacher. She works at a YMCA.

      • Peter

OK, I work at the YMCA part time and that is just insulting. But I do agree that NaOnka shouldn’t be let anywhere near children.

      • Cyberkim

I beleive that Naonka is a PE teacher at a local Y, which means that she probably does not have a higher education, a degree, or any training. It also might mean that she is a volunteer and has little or no culpability. And I like the description of her as a 7 yo ferel child – fits perfectly.

      • Saga

Orri..w this is for you. ‘get your head out of the trees’. Obviously being on survivor has consequences, both good and bad. We watch the raw truth of who these ppl are; some deeper than others. Na-biotch is spewing her soul on ppl.
        Get real. It’s real.
To others jeff wasn’t meaning to insult children.

    • Michael Tx

Didn’t someone post on here that she actually works for a YMCA? So much for Family Values with this witch working there.

    • dougp

Not a pe teacher. According to her Facebook she works as a personal trainer at a Y. Which is kind of a pe teacher but not what most people think of when they hear that term.

  • betsy

Well, Jeff, I have a 7 year old daughter and she doesn’t act like Naonka. Not all children are cheaters, liars and thieves.

    • Michael Tx

      and selfish bullies.

      • donknottz

        Manly Bullies

    • sandy

You hit the nail on the head … that is exactly what that woman is .. a cheater and a liar and a thief … I would not allow any children around this woman … she is no role model …

    • betsy

I hope Jeff apologizes to all the 7 year olds (and their parents) next week.

    • D

      True that.

    • Mimi

Exactly. I’ve taught 7 year olds and they don’t act like Na’Onka. Meanness, outright aggressive behavior and stealing are NOT really typical aspects of 7 year olds.

I think, besides being stupid, Na Onka has some real mental problems for which she probably needs drugs. Holly definitely needs help too!

BTW, No, I’m not liking Jane more — actually, I started off liking her and now that she’s become bitter and Marty-fixated, she (and her giggle) get on my nerves.

      • Mary

I don’t like Jane either. She’s being a little ridiculous with her Marty vendetta.

      • Snsetblaze

Holly might be a little nuts but harmless nuts (yes, sinking the shoes was not a great act but it wasn’t the worst survivors have done). NaOnka isn’t harmless.

      • Tim

Count me on board with the anti-Jane crowd. I’ve never cared much for her, and her actions of late are not helping. I don’t want Marty to win, but I want Jane to win even less. I actually wouldn’t mind it if Fabio wins it all. He’s hilarious!

      • Peter

I want to break my TV when Jane laughs.

    • bamagal0846

      Well said.

    • tennisfan

Yeah, I don’t think the 7-year old comparison is correct at all… Granted my childrend are only 6 and not quite 7, but they do not act anything like NaOnka and are respectful of others. She’s just nuts and has no manners whatsoever…

      • agree

        Naonka = low class

  • cloudshoveller

The challenges this season are so fun and inventive. Benry may be a good player but he is so sleazy! That little rodent imitation seemed so fitting on him somehow. Love the editing on Survivor. Wouldn’t it be fun if in real life after our boss spoke to us, there was a pan out to a baby monkey or a slithering snake depending on their personality?!? The editing really makes Survivor sing!

    • Snsetblaze

Agreed re Benry. Where did his hatred for Alina come from? We were never shown it. Maybe she wouldn’t take off her top.

      • Pat

I was wondering the same thing. He is now on my list of people I want gone, along with Na and Marty.

      • Soap On A Rope

He may have had a flash back and thought he was still filming Girls Gone Wild. Lack of food can do that to you.

      • Wayne

Benry is shifty. I used to like Jane but now do not. Used to dislike Marty but getting to like him. Na is worse than even Russell and finally I hope Fabio wins. He can’t but he’s the best choice for me.

      • CaptainStimpy

Benry is a slimeball, simply for his career choice of take advantage of young women! The comparison of Na to Russell is inaccurate, Russell knew exactly what he was doing, Na is just acting on raw emotions & vitriol. I think Fabio has an outside chance of winning.

  • denise

I love your blog! Unfortunately, you completely insulted my seven year-old by comparing Naonka to her age group.

    • Matt

      Exactly Denise.

    • D

Yes, I agree with you but I would also say that Naonka does seem developmentally delayed.

    • CaptainStimpy

Will you guys give Jeff’s comparison of Na to 7 year olds a rest. He was using 7 years olds simply as an illustration to support his point – a drain is like a black hole. Take a deep breath & quit taking everything so seriously! Relax. I am almost certain Jeff doen’t have a burning hatred for 7 year olds.

  • rmsrmsrms

come tribal council, it sure seemed like Marty was digging his own grave . . . until Alina spoke up and told them all basically how easy it would be for her to flip flop in the future. If any of them had any doubts about voting her off, I’m sure that sealed her fate.

    • Shotgun Samurai

See I thought Marty was digging his own grave too. Until I saw all the people nodding their heads agreeing with him. Especially that asian chick (sorry I don’t remember her name!). Remember how Marty was talking about that “North Carolina” thing? Then Jane was talking about it during the challenge and the cut to Asian chick thinking about it.

      • Matt

He’s seeding doubt and everybody has to start thinking about it. If Marty gets immunity for a week and is able to shake things up look out. I’m also not sure why Marty is hated so much. Ok, he’s arrogant … but he didn’t steal food, he didn’t knock over a handicap woman, he hasn’t lied, and he showed loyalty to sash.

    • Lucy

I thought the same thing. Isn’t he the third person to go on a rant during tribal council this season. I see him gone next week.

and Na’Onka is just so wrong. I would have voted her out this week for sure.

      • CaptainStimpy

NaOnka is the perfect person to go to the finals with.

  • Ellie-Jean

I know a bunch of 7 year olds who would be outraged. Some of them maybe immature but few of them are outright mean.

    • Anna

I teach second grade and every single one of my students carries him or herself with a great deal more poise, dignity and self respect than Na’Onka. Making comparasins between Na and 7 year olds does a great disservice to the 7 year olds. They are NOTHING like her.

      • CaptainStimpy

As a teacher you would (should) recognize a simile when you see one!

  • D.

While watching tonight’s episode, I found myself missing Russell…a lot! Call him what you will, but he sure was entertaining and brought that unpredictable factor that is sorely missed this season. I still don’t care who wins…this far into the game, I should care about someone winning. And yes, Jeff, you are quite right…NaOnka does have the immaturity of a child…although 7 might be too generous. Lol

    • Pat

Russell was disgusting and the MOST PREDICTABLE egomaniac ever to play the game.

    • Pat

Russell was entertaining in a freak show kind of way.

  • freckles

so far i am liking marty – he’s thinking right.

btw – Jeff i would totally be on your dreamteam!!

    • Lil Tuts

Lol at Marty thinking right. He’s a terrible player.

      • dasdj

No he isn’t, he’s the best one there.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

I liked Marty from the beginning. I thought that he would turn out to be a smart player. I was wrong. He has no clue! What was the point ranting about Jane at that time. Yes he should have said what he did but the timing was all wrong. Why say that at tribal council when she has immunity? Just another dumb mistake!

      • Eric

Marty is not a terrible player. I think he has a good understanding of the game, but like many of us, he needs to learn that sometimes not expressing your opinion is the way to go. Since the beginning of the season the guy talks too much!! He’s smart and seems to understand parts of the game very well, but he needs to speak through action not words.

      • Eric

Also, question for you guys: Can anyone relate to Fabio frustration with Na’Onka? He may have been pegged as dumb, but seems to be one of the few people who sees through Na’Onka (my goodness she has protrayed herself as a disgusting person, PLEASE VOTE HER OFF). Fabio also seems to see through others (with the exception of Marty). What do you guys think?

      • Say What?

I agree with Eric about Fabio’s frustration with Na’Onka. Hopefully he will see that the reason everyone is putting up with her is that they want to be against her at the end, plus she’s a vote for their side. Fabio needs to try to get in better with that side (Brenda and Sash) or start getting his own group going. Am I the only one who thinks of Tim Riggins from FNL whenever they see Fabio? Fabio is like a goofy Riggins.

      • KWise

Yes!!! Fabio is a goofy, blond Tim Riggins – good call.

      • Pat

I don’t care if Marty is a good player or not – I don’t like him. He’s an arrogant jerk and was my pick on day one to be the first to go on the Espada tribe, with Shannon being the first on the La Flor tribe. 1 of 2 isn’t too bad. I thought Marty was stupid for giving the idol to Sash, but it seems to have worked, dammit. Turned out that Sash and his allies were the stupid ones. Stupid people. Stupid, stupid people.

      • Lil Tuts

Mistakes Marty has made in the game

        1) Showing his HII to the whole tribe

        2) Alienating Holly

        3) Alienating Jane

        4) Not trying to get KB and/or Jud to flip

        5) Not playing his idol at the KB boot

        6) Giving his idol to Sash for no reason

        7) Not trying to team up with the outsiders like Alina at the merge.

He’s a moron who’s just waiting around for Brenda and Sash to get bored of his bs and vote him out.

    • marymac

I agree, I love that Marty is not afraid to voice his opinion. He’s desperate, but he’s not shy about scrambling.

      • bamagal0846

send na and brenda home- two of a kind. go marty and fabio

  • Country girl

Jeff.. my take is Nay is a lot smarter than we think..I can’t stand her but she knew she was going to throw all of her stunt on Alina and boy she did. I would love to be on there with Jane she is my kind of person. I hope she beats Marty down with a big stick at camp. I can’t believe Nay or Marty or DAN are still in this game. These people don’t have a clue and what’s up with Ben I liked him until last night. Seems like he goes with flow.. Fabio, I can’t help it I LIKE this kid, and I still think he is holding back and playing dumb dude..lol. I look forward to the next week of Jeff Probst I mean Survivor.

    • Pat

I also like Jud (don’t like his nickname). Agree with everything you said, except that Na is smart. And the rest are not very smart for not getting rid of her. I have been trying to figure out why they all disliked Alina so much – have I missed or forgotten something about her? At this point, I’m pulling for Jane, Chase and Jud.

    • Alpha male

I agree, on those rare occasions when she’s not psychotic Nay actually plays a good game. Look at how she played Alina. Not only positioning Alina to take a bit of a hit because of the stolen food but making her think she’s her buddy. Her comment about Alina being a jury member showed forward-thinking. Too bad she can’t control her impulses because if she could she’d actually be a threat to win this game.
Also she developed extremely strong allegiances with Chase, Sash and Brenda…Brendan hugging and high fiving her on the beach, Sash saying Nay was his #1 girl, Chase talking her thru how to fess up to the stealing the food. The producers are rightfully showing her evil moments but there must be another side of her that gets all these people to like her.

      • John

Yeah. The fact that’s she’s an idiot sheep who’s so disliked that nobody will vote for her in front of a jury is the reason they like her for the game.

    • Saga

So which is it? First you say na is ‘a lot smarter…’ then you group her in with ‘stupid people’? I ‘ll wait while you collect your thoughts. Lol

  • Jeanne

Hey Jeff you’re insulting my 7 year old by comparing him to Naonka, lol! You’re right, she is very immature. I’m curious as to what she says next week at Tribal that leaves you “speechless”.

    • D

      Probably starts using the f-bomb.

  • Luvin Survivor

Marty, Marty. You are hollering about Jane when she’s wearing the necklace. Not to smart, but once again, you made it through. So shocked Nay is still there. I’m yelling at the TV during trial. VOTE OFF NAY, She’s loud, she lies, she got busted, etc… Under the radar… Kelly, Chase, Fabio, Benry. I forget Benry is there. Did I miss why we call her ‘Purple” Kelly? The other Kelly is gone. Just call her Kelly or mute…whichever… Watched clip from first Survivor. Jeff….you’re like a fine wine. You just get better in age! Mmmm :)

    • Lil Tuts

Why would they vote off Nay? She’s a loyal ally to Sash and Brenda and a good final 3 goat.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Unfortunatly you are right. There is no reason to vote off AnnoyOnka. She would be a good final 3 goat, eventhough it’s painful to watch her every week. Wish Russell was on this season. I guess I’ll be rooting for Sash. He seems to be the smartest of the lame contestents.

      • Lil Tuts

Sash isn’t smart. He’s playing a bad social game, just like Russell. He will not win because he has no understanding of what Survivor is about.

    • Dave P

Marty was just thinking ahead in his rant about Jane, it wasn’t that stupid, he’s thinking next week.

HE knew he wasn’t in danger, the Survivor editing made you think he might be, but he knew he wasn’t. If you think about it like that, ranting about Jane this week wasn’t that stupid.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

The ranting was not stupid, however the timing was very much so.

      • ReallyTheBestPlayer

Totally agree Dave. Marty is a couple of moves ahead of most of the others. I still think his giving Sash the HII was a risky, but great move that worked better than he could have hoped. Really TheBestPlayer? I think you have proven by your previous comments that you aren’t as intelligent as you may think.

      • TheBestPlayer2NeverPlay

Yes, giving the idol to Sash worked out, by giving him one extra week. However, it was the most idotic, stupid move that you can do. By giving it away, he is playing a game of chance. Maybe Sash will be nice and keep his word and keep me in the game. This is not how you play. So he played a game of chance and happened to be lucky Sash wanted to keep his word. Most of the time, if you have seen Survivor, the minute you give over the idol, is the minute you lost. The least he could have done was play it. Both situations he would not have had the idol anymore. This time the enemy has it. Once the idol is played, they usually hide it again. Which also gives him a shot at getting it again. I mentioned last week how I would have played it. I would have told Sash that his Idea sounded great. And, yes I will give the idol to him. But only after the tribal council. Since there was no guarentee that Sash will go against his word and vote him off. This way, I would tell Sash, I will not use the idol at tribal. If things don’t go according to plan and I do get voted off, the idol goes home with me in my pocket. If I make it through tribal the idol is all yours. If he agrres fine. If not I would have played it. Once tribal is over, of course I change my mind and I now have the idol for this week.
