Bill Clinton refuses to stop being cool

bill-clintonImage Credit: Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesBill Clinton called in to Pittsburgh’s 96.1 Kiss morning radio show for a little Election Day chat (hey, President Obama was on Ryan Seacrest’s show, so why not?) — and the hosts, not about to talk politics, asked him about Lil Wayne’s impending release from jail. But instead of the standard jokey answer that says either “I’m too busy for pop culture” or “I am really good at faking knowledge about pop culture,” Clinton turned it into an opportunity to deliver a poignant message to listeners:

One of the hosts tweeted this morning that, “People calling us racist for the Clinton interview now because we asked him about McRib and Lil Wayne.” I don’t care to do the racial calculus involved in figuring that out. I just say the dude’s a master. What do you think, PopWatchers?

Racist? Pfft. Whatever. All of the people I know who get really excited about cramming McRibs into their mouths are fat white guys.
The Lil Wayne answer was masterful indeed – and here’s the best part: his sentiments were sincere. That’s what I miss most about Clinton.

I thought his answer was insightful as they usually are. His sincerity and the time he gave to considering a topic is one of the reasons my mother, a die hard fundamental Southern Baptist and Republican, LOVED Bill Clinton. Sure he did things she was ashamed of him for but she was able to see the good things about him. I think that’s a rare gift for a politician.

Bill is always cool! And he left us a surplus that was spent all away by Bush. Sad. – dansolar.wordpress.com

  • V

yes he will always be cool.

  • 2fatcats

He’s the man! We need him back in office….A politician that truly just cares about his country and his people! Love it!

  • Not cool

Yeah, give me a second to jump on the cool Clinton bandwagon. The coolest part was when he gor rid of our deficit by completely wiping out our military opening the door for the attack on the twin towers. CCoooolll. Morons.

    • Holly

Exactly! My husband joined the Army in 1996. Until Bush was elected, they used to run out of funding to do training exercises. They didn’t have the money for gas, ammo, etc. after the first half of the year. It was terrible.

Not to mention the back and forth about invading Iraq. They would get called up and ready to go. Sit at the airport waiting for a couple of days to deploy. Then Clinton would change his mind and they would come back. It was an emotional rollercoaster.

      • UKnowIt

Maybe Mr. Clinton decided not to invade Iraq because there was no intelligence to prove that there were weapons of mass destruction. He did the smart thing; he decided not to invade a country and start a war, because there was no legitimate reason to do so. Also, explain how the military would have prevented 9/11 from happening? If you were talking about the FBI, CIA, or NSA, the agencies that would have gathered the intelligence, then maybe I could agree with you. But, no amount of combat training exercises could have prevented 9/11 from happening.

      • pastafarian

and yet our Military budget was – and is – bigger than all other countries’ combined. Sounds a lil fishy that we spend all that money and yet our soldiers can’t afford bullets?

      • Dave-O

This is a total crock post.

      • erik

And Holly, if you remember corerectly the republitards had the house and the senate during the Clinton years, so dont blame 1 man. Blame your obsructionist party. They are also responsible for the economic meltdown. they also said they are for small business yet they voted in lockstep to vote down loans for small business. You people need to get a grip and see what is actually going on outside of FAUX News

    • Uh Huh

Yeah because you know how pre-Clinton, the military was stationed at all airports and large office buildings. How dare he take that away?

      • M

hmmm… the military presence in airports isn’t going to prevent terrorist attacks.

    • John

Do you REALLY think the military could have prevented 911? If so, how?

    • Vince from NYC

@ Not Cool – Your an idiot if you believe that.. The US airforce is the largestest airforce in the world, the second is the US Navy’s airforce.. Bush had been in office for 9 months when 9/11 happened.. I’m sure if there was some intel on an attack he would have done something right? Our defecit is becuase our defence budget as it is, and it should be called offense budget because its main purpose is to have countless, useless stations around the world in case something happens. Maybe it should be called our Imperialism Budget.

      • erik

I agree Vince, as I pointed out in an earlier post, Slingblade (W) was too busy working on his “ranch” to worry about terrorist attacks. He (W) is a stain on our American cloth that will never wash out. I was too embarrased to leave the country in fear of being laughed at because the village idiot ruined our stance in the world.

    • erik

Yeah, thats right “not cool” Blame it on the guy before and not the Toy Story cowboy who blew off threats for over 6 months. Im a Marine and I think military spending as of now is ridiculous. Im guessing you never served as most of you people on the Right. You people make me sick to my stomach. Bunch of goddamn fake Patriots.

    • Coloradogirl

You have no idea what you’re talking about. The reasons behind the twin towers attacks were 30 years in the making, not a result of any particular Clinton decision. Read up on the history of our involvement in that part of the world. Also, if I recall, Clinton wanted to go after Bin Laden after the Cole bombing and was accused of “wagging the dog” due to the Lewinsky situation. Btw, I also agree with Erik re: the need for less wasteful military spending – and this is coming from one who is married to a Iraq war veteran.

    • Eddy

Don´t think so, buddy, the level at which this guys attacked the Twin Towers were civil, and not militarily. They were going to do it anyways. And by the way, wasn´t it on Bush´s watch that it happened……remember our hero talking to kinder garden kids, and when they told him about the attacks, he just waive it off…. I think that the moron is some one else……

  • mscisluv

    I miss Bill!

  • Casey

Can’t fake the cool. Go Bill!

  • wtfnyc

I would have voted for him for 3 more terms. Miss you, Bill!!!

  • Carrie

I heart Big Bob and Mikey. They have a youtube channel where they post all of their classics like “Cake in the Break Room”. Plus, it IS McRib season here in the burgh!!

  • brandinb

Love Bill Clinton! He will always be cool.

  • Jason

Anyone who called in about the mcrib being racist is perpetuating the stereotype. Good Job.
