Hoda teases Amy Sedaris, no one acknowledges 'Mad Men' cast member on 'Today'

Amy Sedaris made an abrupt appearance on The Today Show this morning, only to watch Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford explode in a fit of giggles. “You’re ridiculous!” Hoda said, between laughs. Keep it together, Hodes! I do like the part where Hoda and Kathie Lee do synchronized wine-sips, though:

But this wasn’t the only head-scratcher moment on the show this morning! During a segment on politeness, there were the requisite man-on-the-street interviews. One of those men on the street? Was Mad Men‘s Michael Gladis. He’s identified only as “customer” at 1:49. Gosh, I miss Paul Kinsey:

Did you spot any other bizarre moments on Today, er, today, PopWatchers?

Amy Sedaris is awesome! I need to go get that book!

I refuse to watch any clip that includes Kathy Lee and Hoda, so I’ll just ask: She has a new book?! My copy of I Like You is worn out. I need something new to drunkenly read when no one shows up to my parties!

This is a perfect book for those occasions, Mary. If no one shows up to your parties, you can now drunkly make the crafts from the book out of the unused cocktail napkins.

What a terrible segment. Hoda annoying giggled through the whole thing, and they didn’t really explain a single thing in Sedaris’ book. What a mess.

    Aww, poor Kinsey…

  • Lauren

Awww I miss Kinsey too! That was probably a weird moment for him. I’m sure he thought he was about to be interviewed because he is an actor and then ooooh, never mind, yeah I’m polite.

    • Lisa Simpson

I miss Kinsey, too.He and Stan could get so stoned together.

That is weird that no one involved recognized Michael Gladis.

It doesn’t surprise me that Michael Gladis wasn’t recognized. You think the hens on the Today Show even watch Mad Men? Would they even like it? Not by the earlier laughing and fake wine sipping. Good seeing him though. Bring him and Sal back!!

    • graeme

      Yeah, so strange.

  • RK

    What about Glee?????

As much as I love Mad Men, I hate how easily Weiner gets rid of characters. Of all the guys to bring back, why Ken? Why did I spend so much time investing in these characters when they were so finite? It’s different, but not good different. Wonder what Michael Gladis is doing now…

looks like he’s had plenty to do http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0321591/

    • tracy bluth

He should really bring back my beloved Sal…
I have to say, though, Weiner does sound like an a$$ in interviews.

Everything was done in the interests of the story. Ken was brought back as a foil for Pete Campbell. Kinsey wasn’t brought back because they had plenty of copywriters on staff (and that telling moment at the end of S3 when he realized he had been passed over showed that his character probably took a personal burn to not being asked to join SCDP). They should have brought back Sal, though. That probably would have made sense to the story and the characters. Maybe in S5.

And yet that’s really how life works. We work with people and develop workplace friendships, then they leave or we leave, and we rarely see them again.

  • izikavazo

Oh Amy. She needs her own show.

  • jack

what?! THAT IS SO STRANGE, how did they ignore him

    • NICK

      NERD ALERT!

  • Jonathan Yoho

Seriously EW?! Fix your site so it’s HTML5 compliant. This is getting ridiculous….

    • Glory

Is this why I can never see videos at work?

I’m glad the higher-ups didn’t bury this huge story on manners. After the scientific studies they performed at the coffee shop proved the exact opposite of their hypothesis they get Matt Lauer to expose the dark secret of bad manners. The reason people like Lauer make so much money is because they are able to contain the urge to say something like “Man, this is a stupid story idea” during an interview.

I thought they were so rude to Amy (“Are you still talking?”) –she is hysterical, but it’s like they weren’t in on the joke or they just don’t really get her humor. She is one of the funniest women alive, I’m so glad she is coming out with her own show soon!

I ♥ Amy Sedaris. Another time another place, pretty sure we’d be besties

To miss that Michael “Customer” Gladis was a star of “Mad Men” tells you the quality of TV-watching the staff of the Today Show is up for…

    We recognize you, Michael!

  • Kyle

Amy Sedaris is wonderful! However, I found her skit where she showed Chelsea Handler how to keep her “Pikachu” clean funnier. I agree, she needs her own show.

  • Jenn

I recognized Michael Gladis! But when they didn’t reference him I thought I might be crazy! Stupid Today show. I don’t know why I watch it…

    • Jenny D

I recognized him immediately, by face and name, but also thought I was crazy as he wasn’t at all acknowledged. I so doubted myself that I went online and googled his name just to be sure. How could a large broadcast conglomerate not acknowledge an actor from an Emmy-award winning show? Wow — I’m just appalled. Michael, you were beyond gracious!
