Toy Story 3 when Andy is giving the toys away at the end and he and the little girl start playing with them. Cried in the theatre, hid it from my daughter….
The look of indecision on Andy’s face when he was holding Woody at the end. My sister & I sat a sobbed. Thankfully, it wasn’t too embarrassing because everyone in the theatre was crying, too.
I think part of it for me was realizing I might not see these characters again – my daughter was born in ’97 and grew up on Pixar and Toy Story…
For me, it’s having a 5-year old boy myself, and fearing the day that he grows up, and no longer wants to play with toys, and leaves and goes to college…..Toy Story 3 KILLED me, I was sobbing.
had to put my sweatshirt in front of my mouth to hold back a sob at this movie!
I sobbed. My sister sobbed. My brother-in-law sobbed. Total adult cry-fest.
I was crying too…but because the toys finally got what they wanted, one last time to play with Andy
I cried like crazy because I am a freshman in college this year just like Andy!
Me, my sister, my niece & step daughter were all crying in the theater. My 3 yr old was in my lap decked out in his toy story shirt & woody cowboy boots. And, his name is Andrew. So, basically I was doomed to cry from the start!
The end of Toy Story 3 made me cry hard. I was also very moved by the part in that movie when all the toys were holding hands as they were sliding toward the fire.
I still can’t watch the end of TS3 without bawling…
Now I’m afraid to watch TS3. Hadn’t seen it yet. eep.
Optimus Prime dying in Transformers: The Movie.
Please tell me I am not the only person who cried when Judge Doom killed the squeaky toon shoe in ROGER RABBIT? UGH. THAT POOR SHOE.
I didn’t cry, but I got that huge lump in my chest.
That scene killed me. Such a cute little shoe.
I KNOW the poor cute little shoe! he was having fun squeaking around.
I want to see Roger Rabbit again. It’s so brilliant. Why did it just vanish?
i saw it on tv not so long ago, and you are right, it’s still pretty awesome!
These are all perfect examples of why I cannot sit through a cartoon movie without bawling.
Just had this conversation with some work friends…Dumbo and American Tail made our top 2 spots on movies that make us weep. I’m 26 years old and Dumbo makes me cry still!
Futurama episode with his dog. The scene at the end showing how his dog waited for him outside of the pizza shop until he died. Coupled with the song, its heartbreaking.
I haven’t seen this but just reading this comment made me tear up.
I haven’t actually seen this episodes, but heard enough about it that I had to go look it up. Just reading the description of the show made me tear up.
Ugh I remember that episode. So sad. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I teared up.
No matter how many times I watch that episode it still gets me everytime.
OMG…I remember that now…I totally tear up when I watch it.
Iron Giant for sure. LOVE that movie… Also, when the Grinch’s heart grows 3 sizes and he returns Christmas to the Whos…..
Yes, on the Grinch. I love Max the dog!
I forogt about the Iron Giant. Such a beautiful movie, but, the title character being a big machine, I was not prepared for how much I cried before the end.
Princess and the Frog…when the little firefly dies and gets to be with his star “Evangeline”. *tear* The song he sings to “her” is also a tear jerker.
OMG! So glad someone else put that! I was heartbroken the first time I saw it. Watched it again and it still got me.
Ray..He was so fun! Ray “of Light” with his Evangeline.
Thank you GiGi for mentioning this modern classic. I love PATF. When Raymond dies is sad.
Lion King, the opening moments of the sunrise over the savannah…so breathtaking in the movie theater (I was in the front row) that I cried for the beauty of it!
Glad to see I’m not the only one that tears up at the opening of The Lion King. Absolutely stunning…and the music crescendos…wow!
Yes! The opening scene of Lion King, before they show the title…..the entire thing leaves me in awe every time, and a little bit teary.
I saw the broadway version and cried during the opening. It was so beautiful and I just didn’t know what else to do. So moving.
I felt the same way regarding the Broadway show. It was amazing.
Agreed. Not sad but just awe inspiring by the beauty presented.
Pretty much any Pixar and Disney movie can reduce me to tears at some point. But “Monsters, Inc.”, “Dumbo”, “Pinocchio”, and all three “Toy Story” movies are the worst (meaning “best”) offenders.
RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER NOT HAVING FRIENDS STILL TEARS MY HEART OUT!!
Lion King, of course. A little cub crying over his daddy’s body? Oy.
Ratatouille. When the critic eats the ratatouille, and we flash back to his past with his mother. Something extremely intelligent about it, and perfectly placed re: the climax. I cry.
Max! I forgot about that one. Great I’m crying, because it reminds me that I won’t always have the pleasure of eating my mom’s cooking. *sob*
That moment totally came out of nowhere, and it made me cry instantly. How Pixar was able to connect food with memories was a brilliant move.
Oh my Gosh! Did everyone forget about Bambi??? Bambi and his Mom running form the hunters and then the single gunshot? Good grief, I’m tearing up just thinking about it.
and let’s not forget Watership Down…
I totally forgot about Watership Down with the rabbits. What a graphic cartoon!
Bambi is a real tear-jerker. Especially the scenes right after when his Mom is killed and Bambi is so alone and confused. Horrible!
I was just wondering if Bambi’s mother’s death had lost all impact with a younger generation! Though I don’t really lose it until his father comes to tell him his mother isn’t coming back–oh, man!
OK, one more classic I haven’t seen mentioned yet
Bambi
gunshot

darn it Jen, beat me by one minute
I am still to this day, traumatized by Bambi, I’m 53 years old.
