'Goldeneye' returns: Will either of the two new James Bond games be any good?

The future of the James Bond film franchise is still tangled up in MGM’s uncertain future, but fans are celebrating mini-Christmas today with the arrival of two new Bond videogames. One of them, Blood Stone, is an original globe-trotting adventure, complete with the vocal talents of Daniel Craig and Judi Dench. The other will look a bit more familiar. GoldenEye 007 is a remake of the masterful N64 James Bond game, with lots of contemporary updates to the gameplay.

This new GoldenEye features a major difference guaranteed to spin the heads of Bond freaks: Daniel Craig takes over as the voice and face of Bond. This is heresy, of course, but we shouldn’t be too upset. There hasn’t been a good Bond game since GoldenEye, and if you’re like me, you’d rather play a Gus Van Sant-ish recreation of a great game than ever even think about James Bond: Everything or Nothing again.

A whole laundry list of game developers have tried their hand at the Bond series in the last 13 years. Some of the games seemed intriguing in theory (like From Russia With Love, based on the Sean Connery movie, with Connery providing new dialogue) but lame in execution. The biggest problem was originality. GoldenEye pushed the first-person-shooter genre forward. All the other Bond games ever since have been playing catch-up with other, better action games.

Blood Stone is out now for PS3, Xbox 360, DS, and Windows, while GoldenEye 2.0 is hitting the Wii and the DS. Will you play either game? Can either of them recapture the majesty of playing “License to Kill” on Facility with “Slappers Only”?

Personally I’m very excited about Goldeneye 007 if not so I can play it multiplayer with my friends alone. I doubt that anyone could possibly screw up a Goldeneyes remake unless the retry from scratch which I doubt they will do.

O Course it wont top Rare/Nintendos original Masterpeice but its worth a buy either way

IGN.com just gave the GoldenEye remake a 9.0/10.

I protest “no good Bond game since Goldeney.” 2004′s “Everything or Nothing” was a fantastic adventure with Pierce Brosnan doing his voice and likeness with a cast that included William Dafeoe, Dench, Heidi Klum, Shannon Elizabeth and even Jaws. Good action and graphics, better than “Die Another Day” by far.

I love Everything or Nothing too. It had a good mix of action elements, great voice acting, and a good story. It would’ve made for a cool Bond film.
Nightfire’s multiplayer is fun, but that’s about it.

I have to admit “Everything or nothing” was good but I honestly forgot about that game lol

I’ll be picking up Goldeneye. Best FPS ever!

Booooo Daniel Craig. I demand Pierce or Sean!

As much as I’d prefer Brosnan and Sean Bean doing Goldeneye, if this ever comes out for PS3, I will buy it Day 1

It won’t – you get Blood Stone. Goldeneye began it’s life on a Nintnedo console & that’s where it’s staying.

I actually thought 007 Nightfire for GameCube was a pretty good Bond game. Eurocom, the developer of the new Goldeneye, also made Nightfire – was both a nod to the original Goldeneye as well as an advancement.

That said, the new Goldeneye…well, just got to play some of the single player mode. Won’t fool you into thinking it’s a PS3 title, but a good looking game, exceleent gameplay & the Craig reboot really works in the context of the game itself. Very happy so far.

I personally LOVED Nightfire. Just because it made me LOL quite a bit at some of the things that were possible on multiplayer

Glad I’m not the only one who found Nightfire’s multiplayeer amusing.

yea GoldenEye seems the one to get… especially if you prefer playing with the wiimote / nunchuck combo (like me, if you like to aim) or play the classic dual analog style with the classic controller… blood and sand is getting bah reviews too

I loved Everything or Nothing. It had a good story and Bond does more that just first person shooting. I am hoping Blood Stone is like that. I will have to check Blood Stone out on the PS3. I loved Goldeneye with it came out also
