'I Love You Phillip Morris' has red band trailer, finally

After the break, watch the red band trailer for I Love You Phillip Morris, the long-awaited (unless you’ve already seen it online, in Europe, or on a plane) film that has nothing to do with cigarettes and stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as cellmates-turned-lovers. Warning: NSFW due to foul language, the sex scene we’ve already seen, and the tragic bottle-blondness of Ewan’s hair. READ FULL STORY »

Did Cannes sensation Marc Price really make his new zombie movie 'Colin' for $70? No. He made it for less!

Colin-horror-Marc-PriceDirector Marc Price has a confession to make. At the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, the Welsh filmmaker became a major news story when journalists found out that he made his debut movie, a London-set zombie film called Colin, for just 45 pounds sterling, or around $70. To many, that budget seemed impossibly small, and Price now admits the figure was indeed an inaccurate one. “I don’t even know if it cost as much as 14 pounds,” he laughs. “The things that we definitely spent money on for the sole purpose of making the film would be a pack of video tapes, which we didn’t end up using anyway, and a crowbar. I said, ‘It would be really cool to have a crowbar to [kill] a zombie.’ So someone bought a crowbar. I think that was the only real expense. I wish we’d kept a record of the budget, but I’m sure doing that would have cost some money.”

Price was able to make his movie for so little money by recruiting actor pals to play roles — including Alastair Kirton, who essays the titular zombie Colin — and using the most minimal of crews. “It was mainly me and a couple of friends,” says the director. “Whoever I could grab to hold stuff for me.” Needless to say, Price didn’t have the money to clear London streets of pedestrians. “Me and Al were filming some intros for a couple of festivals today,” he says. “And we were saying how it’s nice to have these moments when it feels like a real film. We look at it as the movie we were running around shooting on a camcorder and waiting for the streets to be clear enough to just go for it.”

'Skins': See the NSFW trailer for MTV's adaptation (Exclusive)

MTV has been slowly expanding into scripted programming, as evidenced by last summer’s hit The Hard Times of R.J. Berger. This winter, the network will debut perhaps its most eagerly anticipated new series, Skins, an adaptation of the hit British series. Premiering Jan. 2011, Skins is a realistic look at life as a teenager and its hardships (think sex, drugs, eating disorders, parent issues, etc.). MTV enlisted the original series’ father-and-son creators, Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, to bring this provocative and controversial series to U.S. audiences. EW has the Exclusive First Look at the trailer for Skins, which will also play during tonight’s Jersey Shore season finale. WARNING: This trailer is for mature viewers. READ FULL STORY »

'Conan' announces first week of guests. Who are you most excited to see?

Conan-OBrienImage Credit: Jay Brady/Everett CollectionUnless there’s a late push, it doesn’t look like my vote for Gerhard Ertl in the Conan First Guest Poll will have been put to good use. Nonetheless, there seems to be a ton of other guests during the show’s first week who will bring me as much — if not nearly as much — pleasure as seeing the 2007 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner. I guess I’ll take Jon Hamm. (Please excuse me as I rub my hands together in happy anticipation.)

Here’s the full lineup for Conan‘s premiere week:

  • Monday, Nov. 8 – First Guest Poll winner, Seth Rogen and musical guest Jack White
  • Tuesday, Nov. 9 – Tom Hanks, Jack McBrayer and musical guest Soundgarden
  • Wednesday, Nov. 10 – Jon Hamm, Charlyne Yi and musical guest Fistful of Mercy
  • Thursday, Nov. 11 – Michael Cera, Julie Bowen and comedian Jon Dore

Who are you most excited for, PopWatchers? And who’s your DREAM Conan guest?

Jenna Jameson in talks for Broadway's 'Rock of Ages.' Perfect stunt casting?

Categories: Sexytimes, Stage/Theater

Jenna-JamesonImage Credit: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic.comLooks like porn icon/actress/author Jenna Jameson might have to learn how to make love like a Broadway star: A rep for Rock of Ages confirmed that Jameson is in talks to appear on the Great White Way as strip club owner Justice in the popular show.

Though Jameson is not necessarily typical Broadway material, this piece of possible stunt casting isn’t completely unimaginable: It makes sense that a show that borrows from the likes of Poison would court someone who would fit in amongst the cast of Rock of Love. Heck, it’s not like Jameson is in negotiations for, say, Mary Poppins or Annie. And being a champion of Jameson’s — I’ve been fascinated by the astute, business-minded porn star ever since tuning into her E! True Hollywood Story — I’m hoping a trip to Broadway could give her the opportunity to jump into mainstream entertainment, the way 1997′s Private Parts didn’t. (Hey, if Sasha Grey can swing it, why can’t the most powerful woman in the adult entertainment industry?)

Then again, I’m not sure that someone as famous as Jameson could ever realistically make the leap from porn to top-notch MPAA-approved projects (nor am I even sure she would even want to see herself on billboards next to the Clooneys and Witherspoons of the industry) — which is why a semi-high-profile gig on Broadway is perfect for Jameson. Especially since, you know, her character owns a strip club.

Are you ready to buy your tickets, PopWatchers, if just out of curiosity?

Will someone join me in my hope for M. Night Shyamalan's new project? Anyone?

M-Night-ShyamalanImage Credit: Victor Chavez/WireImage.comYes, hoping for M. Night Shyamalan to make another good movie is like hoping for the Pittsburgh Pirates to win the World Series: I wouldn’t exactly put money on it. But isn’t it more interesting to root for the underdog who needs all the encouragement they can get, over the Scorseses and the Yankees of the world? Even if that underdog has soiled the carpet more times than you can count with steaming, tightly coiled piles of Airbender?

In my mind, Shyamalan is a great director who, for some reason, keeps choosing to work with the same terrible writer, also named M. Night Shyamalan. Why he continues to give himself work is beyond me, but like a philosophy major at a job fair, I’m somehow still holding out hope. And who knows, his next project could actually be good, right? RIGHT?! It’s called One Thousand A. E. and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be written by someone else! Admittedly that someone else is Gary Whitta, who penned the somewhat unfortunate The Book of Eli, but still — the news holds a ray of sunshine: Maybe, just maybe, Shyamalan is learning to work with others. Perhaps the plummeting critical reactions finally got to him. I mean, if the Metacritic numbers for his last four movies — 44, 36, 34, 20 — were test scores, the guidance counselor would be asking him if everything was okay at the Shyamalan household.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Is there anything left in your goodwill reservoirs for a former next Spielberg? Do you think One Thousand A. E. has the potential to exhibit the best Shyamalan has to offer, like the first 101 minutes of Signs, or the worst, like the last five minutes of Signs? Does the fact that I’m still rooting for him mean that I’m a masochist, or just delusional? Should I just give up the ghost (of Bruce Willis)?

Netflix: We're a streaming company more than a DVD company

Categories: Netflix

Netflix announced its quarterly earnings yesterday, and while I think we can all agree that a good old fashioned Q3 forward-facing financial statement is generally the bee’s knees, this one is even more interesting than usual: According to the CEO’s statement, “by every measure we are now a streaming company … a majority of our subs will watch more content streamed from Netflix than delivered by us on DVD.” READ FULL STORY »
