'The Walking Dead' official credits are more tense, less comic-y than the fan-made ones

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , , ,

The actual opening credits for The Walking Dead have surfaced, and they’re…nice. But after the super-evocative fan-made titles from a few weeks ago, it’s hard not to feel a smidge let down.

Zombie-ish! However, this is a bit more fun, no?

Still, I prefer Bear McCreary’s official music, and as a total Battlestar Galactica nerd, I’m really looking forward to McCreary’s score for The Walking Dead, too.

Is it Sunday yet, PopWatchers? Are you as stoked for The Walking Dead as I am?

I preferred the fan-made credits. I was even hoping that they were going to go with a True Bloodish opening.

I love Bear McCreary. He’s just amazing – I really hope he scores the new BSG: Blood and Chrome… otherwise something will be missing from the series.

I already caught the first episode a couple of weeks ago and have been anxiously awaiting the next 5. I hope the series gets greenlit for a 13 episode arc for Season 2 quickly.

They already have gotten the season 2 order for 13 episodes. filming starts in january. I cant wait!

Not much of a zombie fan, but the fan-made credits are EXCELLENT!!! I’d definitely would want to watch the show if those were used. . .

The comic style fan-made one was FAR superior. Better music, more unique style. The official one looks like something I’ve seen done many times before.

I like the fan made version alot, but you have to understand that the creators are trying to go for a more eerie tone. It is a zombie show after all. Just because it’s an adaptation of a comic book series doesn’t mean the show has to feel comic-booky. And who can deny Bear McCreary? I realize some people have already caught the first episode already. I rather wait for Halloween night to watch it, but I’m hearing great things. I absolutely can’t wait.

    Yeah, Bear McCreary!

i prefer AMC’s version, its less cartoonish. i love true blood’s sexy yet disturbing opening but im glad Walking Dead isnt trying to copycat other shows.

I like the official one, but the flag in the shot of the school should have been inverted for distress, or at half-staff. And tattered.

it actually was originally but had to be changed

While I really enjoyed the fan-made version, I prefer the AMC version; it lets you know this isn’t a campy fun time like so many zombie films (Return of the Living Dead, Zombieland). The opening should be bleak and eerie like it is and it definitely sets the right tone for a show like this. If even slightly analyzed, one might say that it is trying to let you know the world we all knew is gone and nothing is safe or will ever be alright. They show us pictures of our lead characters in broken frames and surrounded by rubble, and show abandoned streets and various locations that have been destroyed. I have yet to see more than 5 minutes of this show, but if it has the intelligence and is as amazing as AMC’s other 3 series, it will without a doubt be getting some Emmy nods for 2011.

“True Bloodish opening”? You want naked zombies acting sensual? haha jp

Still prefer the fan-made ones. Love Bear McCreary’s scores, but the official ones are indeed a bit of a let down, at least visually.
