Are you packing your windbreakers and gigantic Ahmadinejad heads, PopWatchers? If so, then you, like me, are probably preparing yourself for Saturday’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. (Or you’re a time traveler from the 1990s who once attended a not-so-kid-friendly papier-maché class.) So far, we don’t know too much about the goings-on at the rally — only purported guests from a National Park Service document, and the fact that there will, thankfully, be Porta-Pottys accessible — yet, that hasn’t kept over 200,000 supposedly (hopefully?) sane folks from RSVP-ing via the rally’s Facebook page.
So, are you one of them, PopWatchers? If so, I’ll see you there! If not, then be sure to check EW.com for our on-the-scene and telecast coverage. And for those of you wondering who else might attend, re-watch the Daily Show‘s final “Sanity Bus” segment from last night’s show. (Keep a look out for Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara!) Oh, and one more thing: Don’t be a douche.

I wish I was going but I’m from Kansas so it just wasn’t feasible. I’ll be watching though!
I know a few cities are hosting satellite parties. Maybe there’s one by you.
Really? I didn’t know about that. I think I’ll do a Google search to see if there is one in my city.
The Rally will be on Comedy Central. Tune in.
I’ll be there! I’m really hoping the leaked NPS document is correct, because to also get to see Fr. Guido Sarducci and Sam Waterston (as the voice of Lincoln?) would be legen – wait for it – oh yeah, DC – DARY.
Nope, I’ll be at home watching college football all day but I do hope it’s a huge success. If it was in my part of the country I would definitely be there.
EW staff never met a liberal cause they couldn’t get behind.
Ha! What a choad.
or, you know, a big event that came from two big figures in popular culture. And EW’s job is absolutely not about popular culture/entertainment.
not even a liberal cause…
Already on my way to DC — woo hoo!
I’ll be there! Our bus leaves from Indy at 9:00pm tonight!!! =D
I will be there. See you on Saturday.
I’ll be there! But I only live 15 blocks from the Capitol Building so not exactly a hardship.
I live in the burbs outside of DC. Only insanely bad traffic and no parking can keep me away. Seriously, I’m coming.
I’ll be there.
My brother goes to George Washington University and lives really close to the National Mall, so he’s going and I’m sooooo jealous. I will definitely be tuning in though.
Nope have better things to do with my time.

I am so sick of the flagrant democratic leanings of ew.com! I come on this site every day for pop culture news, and I feel like there is always some article that has a political opinion that leans to the left. Im not a staunch republican or anything(Libertarian, actually), but I can’t stand this flagrant bias/ attitude that anyone with right wing opinions that aren’t “funny” is an idiot anymore. I understand that things that happen on The View or The Daily Show constitute as entertainment news, but lets leave it at that: entertainment. I hate coming on here and seeing political biases. Just becuase I am not a democrat does not mean Im an idiot. Additionally, I would venture to say that everyone who is glorifying this “rally” is buying into an entire political culture in which it is acceptable to mock governmental failures without suggesting real (not idealistic) solutions. This sickens me; it is what is one of the main problems contributing to American politics today: the tendency to look at politics with a disparaging/humorous rather than critical/constructive eye.
Who do you think is demonstrating outrageous political biases? You do understand that these are comedy shows hosted by comedians who have promised no other agenda for the rally than reasonableness and…comedy. Right? EW is covering it because, as someone said, these two men are pop culture giants… because they’re hilarious. Satire is and has always been a part of politics. Check your history textbooks. My understanding is that this rally is not supposed to be some big liberal production. The promotion suggests that it is pretty much nonpartisan and just wants people to stop the counterproductive sniping at each other. Now, Jon Stewart leans liberal; he freely admits this. I think it’s okay. He’s not on my TV to present an unbiased analysis. That’s for real news outlets, and real news outlets’ failure to be unbiased and reasonable is one of the things Jon Stewart mocks, and rightfully so. Anyways, despite his personal liberal mindset, thoughtful adults should be capable of watching his show and deciding for themselves whether or not they agree with him whenever he voices an opinion, and still laughing at the funny jokes. Honestly, he doesn’t even voice a liberal point of view as often as you seem to think. I watch with my husband, and whenever Jon Stewart says something I disagree with, I say so and we talk about it. Easy peasy. As for mocking governmental failures without suggesting solutions – you clearly don’t watch the Daily Show. Stewart makes a lot of suggestions when he talks to his political guests. It’s also important to bear in mind that we can all see when something fails, but we don’t all have the knowledge to know how to fix it. Should we therefore not criticize or poke fun at the failures of those who were SUPPOSED to be able to do things correctly? That’s absurd. That’s like saying you can’t criticize a poor chef because you yourself are a bad cook, when it’s the chef’s JOB to prepare food well. And the entire POINT of comedy shows like TDS and Colbert Report is “to look at politics with a humorous eye”. That’s why they’re on Comedy Central. Good lord, Ellis, it’s just not that serious.
This is a POP CULTURE event and you are on a POP CULTURE website. get it?
Happy you were able to have your say? Good. Now let others have theirs. BTW — you do understand what SATIRE is right?
if you believe in the crap the Republicans give you so then you must be what you think you are not.Tell me one good thing that the republicans did just one and i will tell you plenty that they didn’t
What a humorless, miserable idiot you are!! It’s a PRO-SANITY rally, not a Dem/Liberal thing. Anyone with even half a brain knows that! I pity your poor mother (unless she made you this pathetic & clueless).
I was there and I enjoyed myself greatly. And there weren’t any liberal pundits or politicians there (as opposed to Sarah Palin at Beck’s rally). People who think that Stewart is nothing but a Democratic shill should watch his latest interview with Larry King where he TRASHES CNN (and praises Fox). Also look on YT for a video of Ron Paul talking about how much he admires Stewart even though they are on opposite sides. The point of the rally was to push the hatred that’s so prevalent in our media and our politics to the side. Nothing distresses me more than listening to someone bash Dems not because they disagree with them, or because they dont like their politics philosophy, but because they simply hate Democrats. It’s unproductive, and people like that get airtime because theyre loud and obnoxious.
The Stewart rally shines a light on the forgotten America, the America who believes that things can always be better, but we’re still the greatest nation in the world. We’re not fragile, we’re not weak, and we’re not one vote away from armaggeddon.
How white is the crowd?
It looks pretty mixed, really.
a lot less so then glen beck’s 98% white rally.
