Coldplay puts many Brits to sleep. What's your entertainment sleep aid?

Coldplay tops the list of most turned-to artists, followed by Michael Bublé, Snow Patrol, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson, Taylor Swift, Mozart, Barry White, Leona Lewis, and Radiohead. Even more interestingly, a quarter of adults surveyed reported they fall asleep listening to their iPod and they have a specific sleep-inducing playlist. What’s your nighttime entertainment sleep aid?

If I’ve gone to bed thinking I’d be able to fall right asleep but then couldn’t, I’ll reach for the TV remote and turn on the Singers & Swing Music Choice channel. If I’ve anticipated the need of a mental distraction, I will, in fact, cue up my “Shut It Down” playlist:

1. Stephen Bishop’s “It Might Be You (from Tootsie)”

2. Chris Thile’s “You’re an Angel, and I’m Gonna Cry”

3. Steve Earle’s “Goodbye”

4. Steve Earle’s “My Old Friend the Blues”

5. Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs’ “Like Rock & Roll and Radio”

6. Diana Krall’s “I Don’t Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You”

7. Frank Sinatra’s “P.S. I Love You”

8. The Fleetwoods’ “Come Softly to Me”

9. Poco’s “Keep on Trying”

10. Diana Krall’s “I’ll String Along With You”

11. Al Green’s “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart”

12. Johnny Hartman’s “It Was Almost Like a Song” (This is the ringer.)

13. David Wilcox’s “Missing You”

14. Lyle Lovett’s “Nobody Knows Me”

15. Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes”

16. Willie Nelson’s “Unchained Melody”

17. The Proclaimers’ “Sunshine on Leith”

18. Eva Cassidy’s “Danny Boy”

19. Mitch & Mickey’s “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow”

20. Nat King Cole’s “Stardust”

21. Babyface’s “When Can I See You”

22. Lukas Haas’ “Kemp”

23. John Wesley Harding’s “When You Smile”

24. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s “Jersey Girl”

25. Neil Young’s “Long May You Run” (unplugged)

Your turn.

Seeing any Twilight-related articles on this site puts me to sleep.

    • Mavis

At least this is a non-Glee related article.

Now, that would put me to sleep. That, and anything Grey’s Anatomy-related.

      yay!

I must be British at heart because I also use music. Although, it has to be music with lyrics (instrumental doesn’t help). I alternate between playlists and albums. For a while I had a mellow country playlist (Shania, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Patsy Cline), then I used the Avenue Q soundtrack (weird, I know, but it worked), now I use a mix playlist.

    Agreed.

Discover’s “Life” series. It was fascinating, not dull at all, but for some reason no one in my house could stay awake through an episode.

Zero 7 does it for me when trying to fall asleep or just trying to relax.

Bon Iver – Puts me to sleep and/or calms me down. Also a little S.Carey

    • Randi

      Amen on the Bon Iver!

Believe it or not, Best of The Doors puts me right to sleep. And I love them!

I’ve used Dr. Jeffrey Thompson’s music for the better part of a decade. Pop music wakes me up.

I watch TV dvd’s. Most often Friends. I know those episodes so well that I don’t feel like I need to stay up and watch it. It puts me to sleep so easily. And no, not because it’s a bad show!

My girlfriend watches Friends too! She falls asleep, and I stay up and laugh.

I went the TV route before going cold-turkey and going the silence route. My DVDs of choice were The Simpsons.

I used to fall asleep to Metallica – seems weird i know, but i think the “constant noise” becomes white noise – i always stayed up with lyrical, slow songs.

They should use coldplay and lee dewyze instead of anesthesia in surgery.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but Gilmore Girls. I usually fall asleep with the TV on, and Gilmore Girls is one of the best shows for me to fall asleep to because I’ve seen every episode so many times I don’t feel the need to keep my eyes open. Any other show I know really well also works.

I prefer instrumental. I like the soundtracks from Lord of the Rings (only certain songs) and the sound track from Sense and Sensibility.

My roommate and I either put in Pride and Prejudice or the Wedding Date. We have both seen those movies so many times that we are asleep in no time. Music doesn’t do it for me. If anything, it keeps me awake.

Most definitely Radiohead, theres just something about it that puts you to sleep quickly
