I didn’t watch the episode so can’t judge first-hand, but discussing male body issues by demonstrating the insecurity of a guy who looks like Cory Monteith, and also showcasing the sculpted physiques of Matthew Morrison and Chord Overstreet, doesn’t sound like it exactly helps combat male body issues, does it?
The boys were hot with their shirts off, but the episode sucked. They insulted all things Glee and Rocky Horror. There’s a reason high school students shouldn’t do “Rocky Horror,” even if their fictitious and they have $1 million budget. And there’s a reason Tim Curry and not Aretha Franklin sang “Sweet Transvestite.” “Glee” needs to stop with the gimmicks and star casting and get back to what made it a fun show to watch. Otherwise it’ll end up like Ally McBeal – fun to watch for a season and a half and then just plain annoying. The episode was completely disappointing.
I wish they would focus on body issues more often. Matt, Chord, and Corey were smokin’ hot!!!!!
It’s kind of insulting for hotties like Finn and Sam to have “body image issues” when their bodies are perfect. All of the guys have fit bodies. It’s too bad there’s no “chubbier” guy on the show. That would have been more real and truthful.
I agree on the fact that even “dough boy” was more fit than most men, and this seems to be the trend, even when they’re telling you your body shape is ok, they’re showing you an attractive person who is self conscious, not an average looking one. This happens to both men and women
I prefer Lea Michele
It was such a great script choice and it would have been a great moment if Cory Monteith didn’t have sprayed on abs for that scene. Take a second look people! Talk about a contradiction. The whole point is to let him be natural. Why fake a physique when you are trying to celebrate diverse body types?
I’ve rewinded that scene enough times to report to you that his muscles are actually moving when he is walking. It was NOT sprayed on. There were enough witness extras on set that day.
You do realize, don’t you, that some of the abs are airbrushed on with makeup?
As a gay man. HOT, especially Matthew Morrison!
I was so glad to see a show finally address the fact that boys face significant pressure to have perfect bodies. My 17 year old son stresses about his body and he’s a multi sport athlete who could gain 20 lbs and still be considered lean. He works out 5 days a week in addition to his sports practices and still worries that he’s not “cut” enough and that his arms aren’t big enough. His dad and I are trying to get him to relax but this is the pressure he faces every day at school and every weekend socially.
the problem with ALL these posts..NO ONE is talking about the actual show..remember “Glee”??? what happened to the story lines? enough with the theme nights!!!
It was great that they discussed the idea of male body issues, but the reaction of Principal Figgins and the school was absolutely ridiculous. A month’s suspension? Students needing counseling for seeing Finn in a pair of boxers that could pass as swim trunks? It seemed a little counterproductive to suggest such harsh punishment for Finn trying to be proud of what he looks like, even if they didn’t go through.
Maybe I missed the point of that scene, or maybe that’s actually how public schools in the Midwest would respond, but students in my high school got lunch detentions for dress code infractions if anything.
