Image Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosIs Zach Galifianakis in the upcoming Muppet movie? Robert Downey Jr. spilled the beans during a promo interview for Due Date, but Galifianakis’ manager tells EW that the actor is “talking about it.” Please oh please let those talks work out!
Here’s what we know so far: Jason Segel wrote the movie with Nick Stoller, a former Undeclared writer who also directed Forgetting Sarah Marshall and wrote and directed Get Him to the Greek; the movie stars Segel and a new Muppet named Walter as they try to save the Muppet studio; Amy Adams will probably play Segel’s girlfriend. So far, so awesome.
Zach Galifianakis has already done a little bit of work with the Muppets in that staring contest video from June, and if that means Ira Glass and the guys from OK Go are also in the movie, I am totally fine with that.
I’m hoping that Ed Helms and Steve Martin play in a banjo trio with Kermit — Martin’s episode of The Muppet Show is one of my favorites (especially the “Dueling Banjos” with the Jug Band), and Helms needs a better outlet for his musical skills than just The Office.
Whom do you want to see in the new Muppet movie, PopWatchers?

Carlos!
Okay, you’re not even trying now. Time to change your username again.
Yeah, really weak. YAWN
It is a pretty lame project for this, the 21st century. How can a bunch of government-funded puppets created by a wife-cheating pothead hippie compete with movies like Monsters Inc., How To Train Your Dragon, Toy Story, or Kung Fu Panda? How can they possibly connect with today’s audiences? Answer: they can’t. Prediction: FAIL.
This makes sense, the guy basically is a human Muppet!
but in a good way!
There’s a good way?
Yes! I completely agree with Nathan!
Watch out Zack, I think Gonzo is anti-semite.
What does that matter to Galifianakis? His parents are Greek Orthodox.
No, no, no. A Muppet Movie should star MUPPETS, with a bunch of awesome cameos.
And by “awesome”, I don’t mean the cast and crew of The Hangover.
No.
That guy is everywhere! I’m starting a cover band called “Ubiquitous Galifianakis”.
I am sorry, but I am really getting tired of Zach already. So many movies this year alone. How many next year and he almost always plays the same character.
I am going to see ‘Due Date’ because I want to see Robert Downey Jr. I love him in anything he is in. As for the muppets, keep Zach away from it. The Hangover crew doesn’t need to be involved.
So far this sounds pretty awful, I’m sorry Muppets, but it does. I like the basic premise, but everything afterword is a wash. I’ll think I’ll skip this and keep watching the shorts for my Muppet fix.
maybe you should wait for… umm… maybe for them to make it first? geeze. are things really so fast now that decisions are being made before a movie is even cast?
Jesus, Joey, get help. It’s not like anyone can hurt the Muppets’ feelings because THEY AREN’T REAL. THEY’RE MADE OF FELT AND FOAM. THEY’RE RAG DOLLS WITH MEN’S ARMS UP THEIR BUTTS. Get a grip already.
I hear Mel Gibson’s beaver puppet was going to make a cameo but Zach squashed it
the description makes it sound like a jason segal movie… i assume kermit is the star… i mean… segal is a big muppet fan and wanted to make a muppet movie that reflected what jim henson did… he loves the muppets… but the way it’s described it makes it sound like it’s gonna be jason segal and friends driving around with a new muppet and kermy and the others will pop in for cameos. i can’t imagine that’s the case. better be kermit as the lead
Poor Cecco, first try to make sense, then failing that shut the hell up. Sesame street, which has continually garnered award after award was publicly funded, the muppets were not. Different project same creators. Second, the movies that you mention were inspired by the muppets, entertainment which appeals to youth and adults. They were are and will be magic regardless of what else may come down the pike. I would also imagine that if you asked any of the makers of those films how they felt about Mr. Henson, you would be put in your place quite handily. I look forward to seeing the muppets again, as do millions who grew up on them. In the words of Henson himself, “keep beleiving, keep pretending,” you need a hug from your inner child.
Chainsawjack, try to grasp these two concepts: not everyone worships the Muppets, and not everyone is going to agree with you. This movie looks lame as hell, a resurrection of a plot (save the Muppet theater!) that the puppets already used for a crappy Christmas special. Why would anyone with sense and balls want to pay to see a rehash of an old idea and old characters, and a LAME rehash at that? Jason Segal needs to get over his unhealthy obsession with puppets, man. It’s getting embarrassing.
It would be better if they got somebody who was funny.
