'Rabbit Hole' trailer: Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart move us ... to pack Kleenex

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

I’m a big fan of John Cameron Mitchell’s last movie Shortbus, so I was excited to see him take on an emotionally complex project like Rabbit Hole, a drama based on the Broadway play of the same name. In it, a successful suburban couple (played by Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart) cope with the accidental death of their young son. The duo are already earning Oscar talk after the film’s well-regarded showing at Toronto and now the trailer has landed online. See it embedded after the jump.

The trailer is a doozy, almost stifling in its grief, but with hints of some dark, rueful humor, especially from Kidman, who looks in fine form. Are you in based on this?

please take your own advice and just stop.

LOL… I bet you were watching the rescue of the Chilean miners on the news and STILL found something to gripe about. AND, a minor correction to your statement… her face is not filled with botox. JUST her forehead…

Larry- follow your own advice. JUST STOP! Your idiocy is showing!

    • ann

you are just jealous. Don’t be stupid.

Missed the one-two again Larry! Nothing you say has any merit so listen to your fellow man, take your own advice and shut up. The more you post, the more stupid you look and sound.

Your comments are totally childish and not necessary. She challenges herself and that makes her a great actress. Her movies have done well internationally–and I admire her. A lot of great actresses do easy roles–but NK chooses roles that are edgy and dark. And you, David, don’t know the meaning of what it is to live on the edge–maybe if you take a risk, your life would be less miserable.

“Australia” made a profit of over $136 million.

      Little Larry, knows notta.

Stifling in it’s grief??? YOU ARE A MORON. It is perfect, I lost 2 babies. Counselled for crib-death. Nicole understands. YOU don’t.

  • Dave

    I’m SO in.

  • Laura Williams

I saw this at TIFF – it is as good as you’ve been hearing. Phenomenal performances from everyone, and great writing. Beautiful blend of too-true grief and real-life humour.

Why not Laura Linney in the lead? She
would have been perfect. Eckhart is a
lousy actor. Thank God Dianne Wiest is in it.

    • Serena

jfims777- why did Laura Linney not acquire the film rights for herself? That’s what you should ask.

    • ann

jfms777 why you didn’t acquire the film rights so you can put laura linney in it.

  • ann

Movie looks great. No chance in hell I’ll watch it. Not until my son is like, 50.

  • Shane

I’m so excited for this, I love Nicole Kidman. I hope this movie is a step in the right direction for her!

I actually enjoyed The Stepford Wives. The supporting cast, along with Ms. Kidman, were stellar: Glenn Close, Bette Midler (please be in more movies Miss M), Christopher Walken and Jon Lovitz.

  • Davey

I saw this in Toronto. This is a very good film and it has a lot of humor mixed with the sadness. It deserves to do well.

  • Vans

ALL of her films have failed”
Where do you live? In Wonderland? No true babe, no true. Nicole’s career is full of hits and critical successes. Check IMDB sometimes.

    • Vans

Ok right, just read he’s a troll. Get a life dude.

Anyone know if Sandra Oh has a decent part?

  • sandradee

i just keep thinking about how john slattery and cynthia nixon would be just as good.

  • Fleshface

haven’t seen the movie, just watched the preview. couldn’t stop concentrating on nicole kidman’s face. is she wearing dentures? i’m not going to bother watching this film because i’d only be distracted by her face. poor nicole. how can she compete with twenty year old girls having plastic surgery?
