To paraphrase the legendary disco act Andrea True Connection — as I am regularly inclined to do – sometimes you’ve got to “Get the cameras rolling/ Get the action going.” Or, perhaps more importantly, you’ve got to keep the cameras rolling. Which is exactly what I did earlier this week after taping American Idol season 8 champ Kris Allen’s acoustic performance of his new single “Alright With Me” at the Room Mate Grace Hotel in Manhattan. Lucky for me (and for all of us, really), Kris and his buddy Cale Mills started noodling around on their guitars, and before I knew it, they’d begun an acoustic-reggae rendition of the much maligned Idol victory anthem “No Boundaries.” Yeah, there’s still that line about weathering the hurricane, but — and I am shocked to say this in public — the Kara DioGuardi-penned ditty doesn’t sound too bad! Ch-ch-check it out, and click here if you missed the aforementioned (and totally legendary) Idolatry rendition of “Alright With Me.” (Oh, and for all my Idoloonie news and commentary, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak!)

This is my bible.
AHH this is awesome!
Slezak! You are my knight in shining armor! I love Kris Allen, and Cale Mills ain’t bad either!!
Not only that, you have validated my deepest desire…I’M NOW AN IDOLOONIE!!!
I totally agree. This guy has a very beautiful voice. Best wishes, Kris!
This is great! Who knew reggae would improve this song so much??? You know a guy has talent when he can make that song fun. Thanks for sharing!
seriously! too bad they didnt allow this arrangement in the finale, it might have helped the song sell. he would’ve been doing kara a big favor.
See? I knew people were wrong to slam this song so much. I never thought it was so bad anyway. Also, I like this friend- why do cute people also have cute friends?
They should have let him tinker with the song on finale night. People might have actually liked this version. I know I do! Kris has a good ear.
still cheesy…Idol hasn’t had the right winner since Carrie Underwood…well except for the weak season David Cook won. they bragged about his originality…he covered covers…so did Allen…Adam is a million times better than Kris Allen. Crystal is a million times better than Lee…ummm Lee who?
Good grief — stop it.
Honestly?
Get over it.
Aren’t you Adam lunatics over it yet ? some people actually think Adam screams way too much …..and by the way some people also preferred Bo to carrie but acknowledge that Carrie has a great voice
Get over What..Allen can’t sing, I am glad they are trying to pimp him. he needs all the help the ugly sucker needs. Hog calls are not my cup a tea…lets hear some good music how about it Slezak..
Ay ay ay. Idol hasn’t been a talent competition/about the best singer winning for a LONG time now. It’s a popularity contest. That’s what happens when you put the voting in America’s hands. I’ll give you that technically, range-wise, all that, Adam is the better singer. Every time I hear “Mad World,” I’m blown away. But you’re forgetting that people bragged about Adam’s originality, too, and he did exactly what Kris and David Cook (who, by the way, was not the best singer his season, which also wasn’t weak – David Archuleta is an incredible singer, and Michael Johns should have made it to the final three) did – covered songs and put his own spin on things. All your complaining and arguing who’s better isn’t going to change the cold hard fact that Kris won. And I think he deserved it. He has a really good voice, he’s insanely likable, he’s easy to listen to, and he’s quite original in his arrangements. What he did with “Heartless” was, I think, better than any re-arrangement Adam or Cook did. And this video that you went out of your way to comment on to spout your opinion and portray it as fact further proves how great he is. Even Adam couldn’t make this song any good, but Kris just made it pretty awesome. Why even get hung up on who won? Adam has a CD and songs out there, and he has incredibly supportive fans, like you. That should be all that matters, really.
Gahhhh….will you boring crybabies EVER get over it?
No, these cry babies won’t get over it. Makes you wonder why they comment. They should stick on their “god’s” website and stay there.
I love him. *_* Also: KRAAAALE
