'I Love You Phillip Morris' movie poster: See it here! (Exclusive)

I-Love-You-Phillip-Morris-posterWell, if I were to base my perception of prison on this exclusive poster for Dec. 3’s I Love You Phillip Morris — and not on National Geographic Channel’s Lockdown — I’d say the penitentiary is hardly a place where you have to craft homemade shivs MacGyver-style out of soap, a bed sheet, and a poster of Rita Hayworth when you’re not fearing for your life. Instead, this ad for the movie — about two cellmates who fall in love — makes prison look like a heavenly jaunt in the electrically fenced-in park where you can spend your days gleefully teaching geometry lessons with your body. (And loaf around in loafers all day!) Don’t you just want to use Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor for a cookie mold?

And who else, for whatever reason, is humming Rusted Root’s “Send Me On My Way” while looking at this poster?

locked in a tiny cell with Ewan-I could think of worse things!

      ^ Is made of win.

    • Colette

I would look forward to the conjugal visits with Ewan!

    • aleksa

      Sounds like heaven to me.

I would wrap myself around Ewan like a bed-sheet; a sweaty, crazed, bipolar bed-sheet.

I’m just happy this movie is FINALLY being released in the US! It’s already on DVD everywhere else in the world…

I saw this movie at a film fest. It was OK but nothing special. I’m surprised it’s getting released. There are other movies that I thought were better and should have gotten released than this one, such as AGAINST THE CURRENT.

I saw this movie too. It has its funny parts, but it’s not a great movie. I didn’t like it much. and the funny parts are not THAT funny

Right, it was just ok, and I love Ewan.

      • dusen

Agreed. Downloaded it (sorry studios) and while I enjoyed it, I would not say it is worth the price of a theatre ticket. I’m actually surprised they are releasing it theatrically; by this point I would have thought most people who were curious to see it have already found it via the net.

I LOVED this movie. One of the best I’ve seen all year. Ewan McGregor is fantastic in it and its a truly interesting story worth telling.

I can’t believe this still hasn’t been released in the US. I saw it with my sister in London last APRIL (& it was wonderful – particularly Jim Carrey). This new poster is suitably awesome.

    • Kelly

I know, I was thinking “but I saw that film ages ago!”.

  • chris

this movie is fantastic. i caught it online several times this year. jim carrey has never been better. it tops even his “truman show” and “man in the moon” performances.

  • Mr. Holloway

Cute, funny poster. (I think the handcuffs as “O”s are a nice touch.)

However, my favorite depiction of prison remains that of “Arrested Development.” (Hello ice cream sandwiches, goodbye hips!)

    • Lisa Simpson

      No touching!

    • KC

      No Bees!

  • Tharn

I find the poster a bit creepy, frankly. Jim Carrey might be able to contort his body like that, but they obviously stuck Ewan McGregor’s head on someone else’s body.

  • Mark A.

Won’t be seeing this one. Sorry.

  • Greg

Another movie that will suck but make a lot of money…While movies like Let me in can’t seem to bring in the money. How can this be America?

    • Your Fourth Grade English Teacher

You may want to learn about punctuation. An ellipsis is not a more emphatic period. Also, are you asking America a question, in which a comma would be required, or are you wondering why this country ignored a movie you liked?

Based on this poster, this looks like one of those excrutiatingly bad and pretentious looking comedies that many critics seem to love. And even if they don’t they will probably be afraid to say so because they won’t want to be accused of gay bashing in light of the current crusade.

  • Kier

This looks a whole lot better than the other movie posters the movie used to have with the other distributor.

  • dusen

I agree. Downloaded it (sorry studios) and while I enjoyed it, I would not say it is worth the price of a theatre ticket. I’m actually surprised they are releasing it theatrically; by this point I would have thought most people who were curious to see it have already found it via the net.

  • Soldier

Can’t wait to see this movie!

I just think that it is awesome that Rusted Root got some blog time despite not being directly relevant to the article. I think that their more recent “Dance in the Middle” would be a great accompaniment to this trailer – let Shrek keep ownership of “Send Me On My Way”.

  • Igor

I saw the movie – it was released in Europe long ago. The movie is absolutely amazing!
