David Arquette talks to Howard Stern about Courteney Cox, sleeping with another woman

david-arquetteLast night, after news broke that Courteney Cox and David Arquette had split, the pair released a classy statement about how they were ultimately best friends who were committed to being responsible parents to their daughter, Coco. How things have changed! This morning, Arquette opted to throw class out the window when he appeared on Howard Stern to talk about his relationship with Cox.

In the interview, Arquette tells Stern that the couple had not not been intimate for four months and openly admits to having sex with another woman, once — maybe even twice.

Calls to Arquette’s rep were not immediately answered, but airing out your dirty laundry on national radio — and on Howard Stern no less? What do you guys think of Arquette’s comments? Shocking? Ballsy? Both?

I was disappointed to hear they split. After hearing this, now I know why! What a jerk!

    • Jay

after 4 months of not being “intimate”, I cant say I blame him. There reaches a point when you have to get what your not getting at home

      • Felicia

Sorry, not an excuse for cheating and there may be numerous reasons–some his fault–for why he isn’t “getting any” at home. Go to counceling or break up BEFORE you cheat. Not judging; people screw up but what he says in the interview suggests he’s not sorry for it.

      • wooster182

Absolutely not. You marry for better or for worse. If he wanted out of the marriage, he should have separated first.

      • Edina

You’re trolling, but I’ll answer anyway — it sounds like she stopped sleeping with him because he’d been cheating, in which case he has only himself to blame. And in any case, his airing their dirty laundry in public like that is totally tasteless, hostile and uncalled-for. If he had any concern for her as a person, he wouldn’t have done that. And probably when she realized he didn’t care for her, the intimacy ended. I say good for her.

      • Karate Pants

I’m awarding today’s “stay classy, cave man” trophy (yeah, it’s something new) to Jay…I know it’s early, but I don’t think anyone can top that.

      • nodnarb

Love it! I picture a bronzed Captain Caveman club.

      • Kat

Based on another article I read, he slept with the other woman after they separated, not during the marriage. Also he said he was the one who wanted to continue the marriage but she wanted to leave.

      • Joon K

People seek what they’re missing. Infidelity is either the man or woman’s fault always. If the man or woman ain’t giving it up, the neglected man or woman will go elsewhere to fill that void.

      • Karate Pants

That’s perfect, nodnarb! And when the recipient accepts the award and takes hold of it, the club flies them directly into a big rock!

      • Tarc

Jay, that’s pathetic. Sounds like a cheater trying to make excuses.

      • kaydevo

What makes you think the lack of intimacy is the woman’s fault?

      • manish

haven’t you ever seen When Harry Met Sally?

Infidelity isn’t the cause for separation but a symptom of other problems

      • Lesley

I heard him this morning on Howard Stern and just so you all know, he did NOT cheat on Courteney Cox; they were separated BEFORE he slept with the other girl. It was written into their separation agreement that they shall live as if single and unmarried, which is standard language. And shame on you, Archana, for not knowing what you are talking about or for purposely misleading your readers. I feel sorry for David Arquette – it’s reports like this one he was trying to AVOID by telling exactly what happened on Stern’s show this morning. Did you even LISTEN to the broadcast? Seems to me he potentially has a good chance for a libel suit based on this article since you are misrepresenting the facts. I thought EW was better than a cheap tabloid.

      • ger

Haha @Lesley – I want some of what you’ve been smoking.

      • Mia

Wow! Seriously? Not being intimate is not a reason to cheat on someone. Go to counseling and if that doesn’t work then break up. But don’t cheat. What a jerk!

      • Regan

To me the point is hardly if he cheated or when he had sex with this other woman, but rather the fact that he talks about his and Courtneys (lack of) sexlife on radio. THAT is the real offence.

      • Esme

Jay’s right, and if the rest of you idiots had listened to the interview you’d know that Courtney told him to go off and do whatever he wanted to–in other words cheat–and she’d do the same. JERKS.

      • Esme

Lesley, you are so right–how quick these judgemental fools are to jump to the worst conclusions. And what’s wrong with Archana Ram? Has she ever actually LISTENED to Howard?

      • Mike

Jay does not deserve a bronze caveman club — only a tin one is due after that classless comment.

      • Mr. Holloway

Come on, Jay…I don’t know you, but you’ve got to be better than that right.

(Also, I’m liking the Cave Man trophy idea….maybe you can get Geico to sponsor it.)

      • Jennifer

It seems perfectly reasonable that they have not been intimate for four months as they split in June.

      • Ian

Does anyone here pay attention? He slept with someone else because they were separated and had no intimacy. Consider the idea that he wanted the marriage to continue and she didn’t, then they separated, and THEN he was with someone else. A whole lot of judgment coming from people who are not involved and don’t know any more details then EW and Howard Stern can give them. Morons…

      • Juneau

So I guess all of the men in the military should be upset when their wives cheat on them because they’ve been separated for more than 4 months? Grow up, Jay.

      • Juneau

Actually, that was supposed to be “shouldn’t be upset.”

      • Michael

You are a sad excuse for a man, Jay. Enjoy your future alimony payments.

A wife is not obligated to spread her legs.

      • madeleine

You can’t tell your from you’re, you ninny. That is why you’re probably not getting any from your imaginary significant other.

      • Joe

WoW EW! Great to see you gave all the facts here! $100 says this EW author just heard about it through a friend and put up this article without listening to the actual interview. It’s pretty obvious when David was on the phone with Howard for like 30 minutes talking and this article is a measly 2 paragraphs long. There was much more to the story than just what EW wrote….

      • Julia

Ian said: “Does anyone here pay attention? He slept with someone else because they were separated and had no intimacy. Consider the idea that he wanted the marriage to continue and she didn’t, then they separated, and THEN he was with someone else. A whole lot of judgment coming from people who are not involved and don’t know any more details then EW and Howard Stern can give them. Morons…”

I don’t care whether they were separated when he had sex with another woman or how long their marriage lacked intimacy. The fact that he announced it on Howard Stern makes him a classless moron.

      • John

The reason he called in was to set the record straight. He didn’t cheat. They have a seperation agreement. If people would actually listen to the whole interview they would know this. Shame on EW not listening to the whole interview. David was very open and honest. Something that most of Hollywood lacks. EW is just jealous David told his story on the Stern show.

      • Angeleen

According to the interview, he didn’t cheat, it was after they separated and Courtney told him he needs to seek ‘satisfaction’ elsewhere. According to the interview she also told him she was tired of acting like his ‘mother’.

    • Lily

      Agree, Jen. Yuk.

      • calistoga

It’s a good thing that daughters are more forgiving than wives. Arquette would be wise to back off and shut up, or he will lose his daughter too. So far, Ms Cox is handling this with good judgment and in good taste.

      • Pain

There are usually reseasons for lack of intimacy. Maybe he needs to shower more often :) Way to stay classy David.

    • natalie

they are BOTH at fault don’t go putting on all the blame on him

      • Minutiae

        And you know this because…?

      • Zakry

…because when any marriage fails, any relationship fails, its both parties fault.

And you know as much as Natalie does. Why are you challening?

      • Kate

Agreed, but he’s the one airing it in public, which is the faux-pas on display here.

      • Zakry

Why is it a faux pas to be honest? He didn’t slam Courtney, in fact, he seemed to blame himself for not being the kind of husband she needed.

You folks are just hellbent on blaming him – maybe its no one’s fault! It just didn’t work!

      • Angeleen

You are right, they are both at fault. It’s extremely rare for a relationship to fail solely because of one person.

    • A.F. for EW

Truth be told, I never saw them as a match in the first place. Courtney Cox deserves better.

She should drop him like a hot potato and move on!

      • jj

        Agree

      • Nate

Any particular reason you think Courtney deserves better? Yeah, she’s been had a better career, but that doesn’t mean she’s a better person.

      • Jeff

Agreed – I can’t think of a thing Arquette’s done of any value, he’s always seemed a bit of a douche.

      • Katie

There’s a pic from a few years back of Courtney Cox chatting with a pre-Bond Daniel Craig; Arquette was crumpled like a wooden dummy with eyes glazed as Cox chatted with super manly and sexy Craig. Everything in Courntey’s body language said “this is what its like to talk with an intelligent man!” Courtney can do better, Arquette? He’s going to be living off alimoney for the rest of his life.

    • dee dee

He is definitely a jerk after agreeing to a joint statement about being a responsible parent and then less than 24 hrs later he’s talking to Howard Stern. Sounds like he was very defensive and wanted to get “his side of the story” out first rather than ever thinking about the possible effect on his child.

      Shame on you Mr. Arquette!

      • Zakry

Sounds like you didn’t hear the interview.

Shame on you for passing judgement on something you don’t even know about!

    • moviemenace

It’s obvious that this hack blogger didn’t hear the interview with this internet troll spin. Every non-Howard Stern fans sees or hears his name and automatically assume shenanigans are afoot. It was not a torrid exposé or a sleazy interview in any way. Arquette wanted to make it perfectly clear that he never cheated on his wife (the way the tabloids insinuated yesterday)and that they have been separated for some time. He was open and honest, giving reasons for the split, and taking a great deal of the blame. The heart of the conversation was their little girl and how much he loves her. This aspect of the split is clearly eating him up. This is the real story. EW ought to pay me. I do a better job than your writers. Stop making assumptions about Arquette before you hear his side of the story. And stop making assumptions about The Howard Stern Show based on hearsay.

      • dee dee

You are correct. Without having heard the interview and based upon the information provided above, one could get the wrong impression of what was said. I retract my comment and learned a lesson in the process.

    • Chris S

The majority of the people in this post section are quite the douchers. The Social Network is a 10. BabaBooey.

    • jake

Well according to people cox is having an affair with brian van holt. It’s still sad news. I hope they can work it out.

    • Michelle

I actually HEARD the interview. He was very sweet. He sounded tired (hungover) and just bitten by the honesty bug. Can’t fault someone for being honest unless they’re mean, and he wasn’t.

  • Joseph T

so little respect he must have for himself.

    • Mea

I have long believed that all of the Arquettes are half a bubble off plumb. She’s better off without him.

      • Gaby

        Brilliant expression!

  • Well…

I don’t understand why they aren’t waiting to do this while promoting Scream 4. That would seem like standard Hollywood practice.

    • Ellipsian

My thoughts exactly. I hope primary shooting for the movie is complete.

    • Shasta

Hmmm, or maybe they’ll wait to get back together for the premiere?

  • Spongey

    Oink!

  • Vince from NYC

Ha, based on the headline I thought Cox was sleeping with other woman.

    • TCC

      Me too!!

    • therealeverton

      Me too!

    • Scott

      That’s what I thought!!

    • lunakit

      Me four!

    • Emma

      Dangling modifier anyone?

      • allie

        comma anyone…

    • pede

Me five! And did anyone else immediately think Jennifer Aniston?

    • Ralleh Nao

Vince and all his supporters apparently have no idea what a comma is or what it means

    • jj

      Me too!

  • bsure

What a douche. If CC was having any second thoughts about the split, this should settle it.

  • Trisha

4 months? Big deal- they were married 11 years & have a kid. Seems shallow.

Maybe she has a reason for not sleeping with him- like it sounds like he may have been unfaithful. Whatever it is, we have no real idea of what it’s like inside their marriage. This public admission of his is just tasteless. Disgusting.

    • BA

I agree. Obviously they were struggling but 4 months is not the end of the world. I wondered if they talked about it or he just decided to go out and get some. Seems lame to throw out an 11 year marriage for a dry spell especially if they didn’t talk about it first.

      • Pain

        It’s been 4 years for me :)

    • llevinso

I agree. People are going to scream that 4 months is this huge period of time but when you’ve been married that long stuff like this can happen. It’s something that needs to be discussed. You don’t just run out and cheat. You especially don’t spill all these intimate details onto the airwaves for Howard Stern. Classless indeed.

      • Emma

Four months is nothing. After having a kid…some couples…can go 6 months without doing it. You just have to talk it out.

    • jay

maybe he has a small penis?

    • K

I heard him say that basically she didn’t want to fake it, she wasn’t going to sleep with him if she was not happy with him. She told him she was done being his mother and then he went off and acted like a kid without his mother so she’s tired of it. I would be too.

  • Sarah

Well, I think it’s safe to say they won’t be getting back together after this.

  • ‘k

Pretty tacky. But, then again, Howard Stern and his guests are not known for their class. Seriously, why would anyone share that information with the whole world?

    • Matt

What does Howard Stern have to do with this? Howard’s show just happen to be the venue where DA chose to talk about this. If he had made these comments on Oprah, would you make that same comment?

      • ‘k

Gosh, maybe I have it all wrong. So you’re saying Howard Stern IS known for being classy?

      • beatlebob

Howard didn’t cheat on his wife! So he got this idiot to be open. I wish Howard was running for Gov.

      • Bebe

“Howard didn’t cheat on his wife!”

Uh, yes he did. That’s why they’re not together anymore!

      • etm

        @ Bebe
How ignorant are you?!? Howard never cheated on his wife. They are not together anymore because Howard put his career first, rather than his marriage. Howard is a faithful husband, a loving, supportive father, and an awesome entertainer. If you don’t listen to him then don’t bother commenting.

      • @Bebe

Boy, are you a dope! It was Howard’s wife who asked him for a divorce, nimrod. Howard never cheated on his first wife nor his second (whom he waited many, many years to marry.) Why don’t you check your facts before you spout off, you self-righteous dope?

    • Korey

Have you actually ever listened to Howard Stern, or are you going by his reputation? Personally, I enjoy his show and have never found him to be offensive. No, his show isn’t for children but he makes me laugh. I agree. If Arquette came clean on Oprah or Larry King, people would praise them for getting honest answers. If
Stern does it’s simply deemed crass.

      • ‘k

You know, I’m not really a fan of anyone spilling this kind of personal information on any venue. Not an Oprah fan either so, no, that wouldn’t not matter. Although I don’t pretend to speak for anyone else. And you may very well like him. That’s your privilege. But, again, Howard Stern’s reputation is simply not one of high class. Is it??

      • etm

        Totally agree, Korey.

      • FrankieFan

        hey ‘k –
        Pious much?

      • Hey Korey

I have nothing against Howard but you must be missing a few brain cells. Howard aims to be offensive. Like him, fine. But please do not say he is not offensive. Even Howard would be offended by that.

      • ‘k

Hey, FrankieFan – Nope, not really, but thanks for asking.

      • Kate

I really have to agree with ‘k and Hey Korey… he most certainly has a reputation for being offensive – it’s a reputation he himself took great pride in cultivating. It’s what he was known for (for ages anyway, he may have changed more recently, I haven’t heard his show in years) and he played it up to amp up the fame. And good on him for being so successful. It’s all show business, and he was/is good at what he does. But let’s not pretend he’s talking to little old ladies about their cookie recipes – he courts and revels in controversy (or again, did – maybe he’s done a complete 180).

      • Korey

@ Hey Korey: Why am I missing brain cells? Like any comedian, you either find them funny or are offended by them. Rarely both.

  • Dr Rand Pink

Jennifer Aniston and I have separated. The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner in our relationship. We still love each other deeply and we hope the media will respect our privacy. Thank you very much.

    • @ Dr

      LOL

  • Anne

    Classy.

  • whatevs

I can’t believe she ever married this jerk. They act so differently from each other in interviews. Kudos to her for not throwing him out even sooner.

And Jay, I hope you feel good explaining to your kids that you destroyed their family because you had to get what you weren’t getting at home. Jerk.

    • WTF

      Who’s Jay?

      • Jay

        some loser…

  • Editor

It’s a good thing that caption was edited correctly. If you had forgotten the comma, it would have read “talks about Courteney Cox sleeping with another woman.”
Hey, it’s Howard Stern! We would expect no less!

    • kylla

Now, that would have been a far more interesting story :)

    • Your Fourth Grade English Teacher

Demonstrating the importance of proper punctuation.

    • clayton

Hey numb nuts Howard Stern did not write the headlne. That would be E.W.

      • Editor

        No sh!t….

  • Gloria

It seems the two of them had a mutual understanding to end the marriage and both were free to date while separated during those 4 months. But I do feel it’s low class to go on Stern’s show and talk about their marital problems before the divorce takes place. A classy dude would still show respect … maybe it took Courtney this long to see the real David and she felt she didn’t want to waste more years with a jerk!

    • Brooke

She can do better he is so immature, you would think someone would grow up at 11 years of marriage. Good luck CC….

  • Chris

“the couple had not not been intimate in four months.” Does that mean they really were?
