Image Credit: Brandon Hickman/E! Entertainment TVThe late-night talk show-host is planning a half-hour comedy that will riff off of the backstage shenanigans on her E! show. According to Variety, the tone of After Lately, for which E! has ordered up eight episodes, will be similar to the off-the-cuff improv feel of The Larry Sanders Show. Besides Handler, other comedians set to appear include Guy Branum, Sarah Colonna, Heather McDonald (!), Chris Franjola and Brad Wollack.
What do you think of the timing of this announcement Handler fans and foes? Her hosting chops on MTV’s VMAs were largely panned, but perhaps she’s got plenty of goodwill out there to spare. I admit I kind of dig her mean-drunk style of comedy. She strikes me as tough and obnoxious, but the type of loyal friend who would hold your hair when you threw up or kick someone’s ass for looking at your guy the wrong way. Will you be similarly loyal and tune into her planned laffer? Or does the prospect of more Chelsea Handler make you nauseous?

OMG YESSSSSS. E! finally has a good show on their network and they’re being smart (for once) and going with it. She’s my favorite person ever and is friggin high-larious.

Chelsea is funny, but her style of comedy only appeals to a very specific type of audience, namely girls and effeminate gay men. There’s a very large group of people that her “comedy” fails to impress. I happen to be in that large group. Her “I don’t care” attitude is the most forced persona I’ve ever witnessed in the world of comedy. Chelsea, it isn’t funny if you have to fake it.
I’d rather see a sitcom with Chuy as the star.

Chelsea is a nasty, mean person…I have met her and she’s not nice. Her comedy is tired , predictable and mean-spirited…
Surprised she’s doing this. I figured playing Leatherface in the new Texas Chainsaw movie would be her next gig.

Definitely will watch. Funniest person on TV. Another Johnny Carson quick wit. People who work for her simply adore her because she’s a good person.
