Cebu Pacific Airlines, a Philippines-based carrier, devised a plan to liven up the in-flight safety lectures: Have the flight attendants dance to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Well, that’s certainly one way to get people to pay attention.
The video’s pulled in over 5 million views since Thursday, which is insane. The airline put out a statement this morning, and it in a VP says “We still conducted the serious safety demonstration procedures; and the safety demo dance was done at cruising altitude.” So fear not, worriers.
Would you fly these extremely friendly skies, PopWatchers? Or do you agree with the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines, who says the dancing is sexist and degrading?
I have been flying since I was 8 months old I’m 35yrs old now and this would be a fun and new way to get people to watch and pay attention. I know in my exprience I never pay attention to the safety demonstration anymore because I know it backwards and forwards and I don’t see anything wrong with this. It was cute and really choregraphed well. Why must everything be so boring and stoic.
@Lena I agree with you. Valujet used to do fun things like this and have onboard games to win stuff. Then they had a horrible crash where everyone died, and people felt they hadn’t been serious enough about safety. It didn’t matter what the truth was; the fact that they joked around was held against them after the crash. I remember one joke they used to do during the safety talk: “There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there’s only two ways off this airplane.” I thought it was fun, but when the safety of so many people is involved, the image is everything.
I’m pretty sure thast even without the onboard games, they would still have died.

I think the haters need to lighten up. Anything that takes my mind off my flying phobia is a good thing. Plus, there are *male* Flight Attendants, too – no reason they can’t do the same little dance, so I don’t see it as sexist at all.

that is super fun! i am glad it is not the real safety demonstration at the beginning of the flight but for in-flight entertainment it is great!
Then the airline should hire entertainment directors. It is extrememly demeaning to the flight attendants, who are already responsible for everything from passing out pillows to diffusing drunks to getting everyone off the aircraft safely in the event of a crash, to expect them to break out into a half time show like they were the second coming of Cop Rock.

If there were a crash, everyone would die. There would be no need for flight attendants to worry about getting everyone off safely so they can now focus more time thinking of their next dance routines!!
It is never demeaning whenever the participants are taking part with a smile! Those flight attendants didn’t convey symptoms of duress. I think it’s a heck of a way to get people to listen and LISTEN, they will! If the airlines here in the U.S. would do this, I’d actually fly more!

I agree…Gaga needs to go on vacation PRONTO! Making things fun? How about doing the job your supposed to do the way it’s supposed to be done. No need to further give this woman more press. The music is NOT that GOOD! Besides, if you take a little bit of each entertainer within the past 25 years, divide it with Cher, multiply it with Madonna, and subtract Christina…you’ve got Gaga.
If you dislike GaGa, you obviously don’t listen to her music very closely. Don’t criticize someone if you don’t have the credentials to do so.

How could I NOT listen to her music closely…it’s played every freakin minute on the radio! I really liked her in the beginning and her music was fun. Are those enough credentials for YOU??? Sheesh…now in order to comment we have to prove our worth to you? Do I need a degree in psychology to ‘get’ all of Gaga’s outfits? Do I need a degree in musicology to understand the deeper layers of lyrical greatness in her songs? I doubt you have such ‘credentials’ yourself. Gaga is just so overrated and I hope the public and press start to ask questions…especially about her background…that they haven’t factchecked enough. She constantly downplays her mega rich family but how could she have afforded those early days? Who bankrolled those outfits? Your telling me any up and coming artist has that much money? That’s a smart concept–have songs that people are familiar with with the flight attendants demonstrating the rules on the plane with the choreographed dance moves in the aisle over the Lady Gaga and Katy Perry dance pop songs! Listening as well as moving to their favorite Gaga songs.
