Jennifer Lopez producing a dramedy about Latina nannies

Jennifer-Lopez-Image Credit: Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.comNew American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez is heaping more on her plate: The actress/singer is set to produce a new hour-long dramedy for ABC that will “center on three branches of an extended Los Angeles family — as told through the eyes of their three Latina nannies,” according to Variety. Lopez and her producing partner Simon Fields are joining with Friends and Big Love writer Alexa Junge for the still-untitled project.

ABC’s pretty full of family-centric shows these days: Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Brothers & Sisters, The Middle, Better With You, maybe even Cougar Town. Lopez’s producing record isn’t hugely encouraging — Dancelife, South Beach — and this isn’t the first time she and Junge have worked on a Latina nannie-based project: In 2007, Ayuda stalled out at Showtime. Still, it’d be nice to see other kinds of stories told on television. You know, ones about people who aren’t rich and white.

More racist garbage from the racist media. How about a show about a Latina who happens to be something other than somebody’s servant? I won’t hold my breath.

  • huh??

YIKES! What a workaholic!! It’s all good though.

  • Bazinga!

This sounds like a good idea. Very original concept.

  • Jersey Jeff

What can’t they have american nannies? Yea to promoting illegal aliens!

    • KC

That is so true!! There is no way that Latina nannies could be here legally or even American citizens. That is definitely out of the realm of possibilities.

    • you’re an a-hole

I’m latina, i’m a nanny and i have been legal ever since i got to this country. A-hole.

      • Jersey Jeff

your name is “you’re an a-hole”? must be hard to get a date

    • Yousuck!

@ Jersey Jeff – over 15% of the US population is Hispanic, and is expected to double by 2050. Don’t you think it reasonable to have a few legal Latinas in that number? You are just a racist pure and simple!

    • Me

Whoa, deport me! My last is Spanish. Never mind that I’m married and of Irish ancestry. No Garcias, Gonzales’, Romeros allowed. Hey,let’s ship out that other Latina, disgusting female, you know, Cameron Diaz. Oh, she’s allowed because she took after her German Grandma.

I wonder if it will star Meg Whitman???

    • Me

Starring Tobey Jones as Meg Whitman.

If you have a platform, why keep playing Latina maids and nannies? This is very disappointing. George Lopez did a smart family-based Latino show.

    • susan

Because Hollywood is more likely to say yes to shows about maids and nannies. Other roles you have to fight for.

  • Bazinga!

@ Ellie – I’m thinking this platform is a good way to “stick it to the man.” There is a lot of comedy in rich, white (or other color) folks being knuckleheads to their staff, so maybe you should wait till the show actually airs before you turn this into some sort of negative social comment.

Can she ever just focus on one thing she is great and I admire her work ethic but slow down u saw how mariah went crazy gist work on your cd and idol and family this woman must be at a meeting everyday but I love her!

  • qrr3

She has try to produce and sell this project to every TV and Movie company for a long time, so this is no new news, her producing company does make any money, try downing (Manta) a online business information company that tells you how much company earn or what their worth, and they will show you tha Jennifer Lopez company hasn’t made a dime in over 8 years, this is just another attempt to louch her so call produceing company.

  • tobey

I wish her the best. She’s a lovely lady.
