Were 'Modern Family' star Eric Stonestreet and 'Community' actor Ken Jeong really fighting on Twitter?

twitter-fightImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images; Albert L. Ortega/PR PhotosNow here’s a Twitter fight that certainly has me baffled — and calling B.S. Chelsea Handler and Perez Hilton, I get. But two of my favorite actors from two of my favorite comedies? Say it ain’t so! We’re getting duped, right?

More than likely, yes.

It all started late yesterday afternoon with a Tweet from Eric Stonestreet’s verified Twitter account directed to Ken Jeong (Senor Chang!). It read: “@kenjeong hey ken. Why r u always giving me the stink eye at events? What did I do to u? I think u are super funny, so what gives?” What followed was a string of insults that led into the night and had 3 a.m. Sandra furrowing her brow in confusion. Indeed, men, ‘What gives?’ (Note: For now, the nonsense appears to have stopped.)

Jeong’s rep had no comment. But premiere week seems like a great time to call the star of a rival network’s comedy show “tubby” or “neddle [sic] d–k.” I love these guys, but I don’t like my Twitter feed clogged up with fake fights. I say we take this to the streets: Cage match anyone? Or a mud fight? Ooh, ooh: paintball wars part II!

What do you think, PopWatchers? Are we the butt of these comedy stars’ joke?

Excess Hollywood: 'King Kong' may become a Broadway musical

excess-hollywood

  • According to a press release from Global Creatures, work has begun on a Broadway musical version of King Kong called King Kong — Live on Stage. I thought we learned the first time around that we didn’t want him live on stage, right? Looking forward to this, though.
  • Paradise Lost has found its director: I, Robot and Knowing director Alex Proyas will helm the adaptation of the John Milton poem. [Variety]
  • So You Think You Can Dance announced via press release that the season 7 tour is set to kick off Sept. 19 in New Orleans. Obviously, Nigel Lythgoe to arrive armed with beads.
  • Disturbia co-writer Carl Ellsworth has been tapped to pen the Goosebumps adaptation. I’d cross my fingers for a Why I’m Afraid of Bees adaptation, but I already saw that back in 2006 when it was called The Wicker Man. [THR]
  • IFC Films has nabbed rights to Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project, an “uncensored” (Hm.) documentary about the Miramax co-founder, according to a press release from the studio.
  • Sony has announced it has acquired Pedro Almodóvar’s The Skin That I Inhabit, which is not about Buffalo Bill, but rather a father who avenges his daughter’s death.
  • In other Sony acquisition news: The studio has also picked up rights to Insidious, a horror film starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne and directed by Saw‘s James Wan. Good to see the kids will learn a new SAT vocab word. [The Wrap]

Steve Martin finally joins Twitter, continues Twitter Circle of Life

Categories: Twitter

While it may seem like celebrities are quitting Twitter left and right, many believe that it’s best to be fashionably late and are just now jumping on the Twitter bandwagon. Steve Martin is the latest mega-celebrity to start a Twitter account, using his @SteveMartinToGo handle to pontificate on life, and of course, crack some jokes. This, PopWatchers, is the beauty of the Twitter Circle of Life; when some celebrities quit, others begin their Twitter journey. And Steve Martin Tweeting? This is a major Twitter upgrade. 'Bridalplasty' has women compete for plastic surgery, is a disgrace

BridalplastyImage Credit: MedicalRF.com/Corbis; David Greenwood/Photodisc/Getty ImagesEvery few months, a new show surfaces and we all declare it the utter nadir of cultural decrepitude. Ding! It’s time for another one of those. E! announced a new show called Bridalplasty today, which will follow soon-to-be-brides as they compete to win plastic surgery procedures. You know, to be “perfect.”

According to E!’s official announcement, 12 “eager brides-to-be” shack up and compete for plastic surgeries off their “wish lists.” “From muffin tops to crooked noses to flat chests, the perceived imperfections they hope to fix are extensive and dramatic,” the statement reads. It gets worse: READ FULL STORY »

'Big Brother' producers wrap up winning season

Categories: Big Brother, Reality TV

The Big Brother 12 producers seemed a little flustered after Wednesday’s big finale – mostly because Lane and Hayden took their sweet time leaving the house, so they forced honchos Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan to rush through the show’s final minutes! After the jump, the two EPs reflect on the final three and look forward to the 13th season. (Yep, there’s going to be another installment of Big Brother!) READ FULL STORY »

'Real Housewives of New Jersey' sons to appear on 'Millionaire Matchmaker': Let's pick their perfect match!

Manzo-matchmakerImage Credit: Sylvain Gaboury/PR Photos; Peter Tangen/BravoBravo has confirmed that Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo’s sons, Albie and Christopher, will appear on the upcoming season of The Millionaire Matchmaker. These boys are not self-made millionaires (Christopher’s entrepreneurial skills haven’t paid off yet, and Albie’s legal future is temporarily on hold), but rather the children of successful parents. Regardless, they seem to work hard and have escaped falling victim to a nasty case of entitlement that has affected other Housewives children. And considering everything that’s gone down over the course of two seasons, Albie and Chris still seem to be carrying on relatively normal lives. Good morals, a close family, and a connection to Andy Cohen? Where do I sign up?

Now I know Patti Stanger comes from a long line of matchmakers, and finding people’s soulmates is her job and everything, but I consider myself pretty fluent in Housewife, so here’s my take on who the boys should be looking for: READ FULL STORY »

Gabourey Sidibe's 'Elle' cover: Why the outrage?

There’s been a bunch of internet uproar (which to be fair translates to a low hum) over Gabourey Sidibe’s Elle cover. The magazine’s 25th-anniversary October issue features 25 women in their 20s who are really goin’ for it! Sidibe, Megan Fox, Lauren Conrad, and Amanda Seyfried get separate covers, and Gabby’s is the only one that’s framed close-up. People can’t handle it! Among the criticisms: She should do the same pose as everyone else. Her skin seems lighter. Her weave is bad. Sidibe’s inclusion “feels like a weird fetishization that borders on patronizing,” says Salon.

I don’t see what the problem is here. Elle picked Gabourey Sidibe as a game-changer, so she is on one of the covers. Would people be less upset if Elle had put each of these four women into the same tiny dress and asked “Who’s wearin’ it best?” They constructed the Sidibe cover in a specific way so that she would look her best, and she looks beautiful. Is it really so jarring to see someone heavy on a magazine cover that people need to freak out over how it “should look” instead? This is how it looks.

“We have four separate covers this month, and Gabby’s cover was not retouched any more or less than the others,” said Elle in a statement. “We had 25 cover-worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is….We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reasons.”

Fair enough?

Idols on Broadway: How does Jordin Sparks do in 'In the Heights'?

in_the_heights_sparksImage Credit: Joan MarcusDiana DeGarmo did Hairspray, Ace Young starred in Grease, and Fantasia Barrino carried The Color Purple. It’s official: American Idol alums love Broadway! And the latest former Idol to join a company on the Great White Way is Jordin Sparks, the season 6 winner who enjoyed her opening night Tuesday as barrio brainiac/Stanford student Nina Rosario in In the Heights, the musical that EW described as an “irresistible valentine to Latino life in upper Manhattan.” The big question is, of course: How is she in the show? Pretty darn good, it seems, especially considering it’s her Broadway debut. When Melissa Rose Bernardo reviewed the Tony-winning musical originally, she graded it an A– and said that “its virtues…are abundant.” Jordin’s addition, however, garnered a solid B+ from Bernardo, who was high on Sparks’ musicality (“when she’s singing she’s completely home”) but apprehensive about her acting and stage presence (“she looks…like an inexperienced stage actress”). Translation: Great singing, and lots of potential!

PopWatchers, have you seen In the Heights since Jordin joined the cast? Are you tempted go see it now that she’s in the show? Lemme know below.

'Smallville' final season promo: Weeping yet?

I know a few people who are probably off in a corner somewhere crying in the fetal position at the sight of the newest Smallville promo (embedded below) for the show’s final season. And I don’t blame them. Had I spent ten years on a show that was coming to an end, I’d be a wreck. Which is to say: I feel for you, Smallville-watching PopWatchers. I really do.

Watching this promo six times, I really wish I’d stuck with it — I’ve only watched the pilot and a few scattered episodes a friend convinced me to watch. This promo does a fine job of making me feel like I’ve missed one heck of a party. My only gripe is with the music (“Nature Boy” cover by Kerli). It’s not nearly epic enough. This is Clark freaking Kent, future Superman. Not Clark Kent, moody alternative music fan.

That being said, what do you think of the promo, PopWatchers? Any former Smallville fans regretting jumping ship? Are those of you who stuck with it glad you did? What are you expectations? READ FULL STORY »
