Newly minted American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler took their seats at the judges’ table on Tuesday, joining longtime judge Randy Jackson on the Idol audition set in New Jersey. It looks like Jackson is being rewarded for his nine seasons of Idol duty, nabbing the coveted seat of ex-judge Simon Cowell. Lopez will sit in between Tyler and Jackson, keeping the what’s-a-girl-to-do-when-surrounded-by-a-bunch-of-crazy-boys? vibe going. (10 seasons and counting!)
Tell me Idoloonies: Does this new feng shui work? Or are you crying at the sight of a Kara-, Ellen-, and Simon-less judges’ table? [MTV via dizzyfeet]

I wish they’d cut Randy and put David Foster in his place. I also wish they’d cut Steven Tyler and decided to have someone like Kristin Chenowith or Jamie Foxx.
I’m thinking Jennifer may be the best fit at this point of the three.
When I see that picture, a single manly tear of shame and embarrassment for Steven Tyler slips down my cheek.
Manly? Really? Is it the scarves? Or the tight pants? Or the makeup? Wait – it’s the long hair, right? No? Hmm. Oh, I know: it’s the deep, manly voice – oh, wait, no, that can’t be it. I give up!
Em had the best comment I have seen in a very, very long time.
I think SuperDan means his tear is manly, not Steven Tyler. As in, “I’m crying, but in a manly way”.
I agree with you Dan.
HEY SHUP UP! Steven is unique with lots of style and charm. He is not afraid to have individuality. Dare to be different in life.
I love Steves style!
YES!! David Foster would be the PERFECT replacement for empty-headed, has-been (never was?) Randy!! Nigel, please!!
Davis Foster would have been a good pick! I just don’t understand what Steven Tyler is doing there. And having Randy in Simon’s seat is wrong in so many ways.
Oops, David Foster.
If America’s Next Top Model can get some of the BEST photographers in the world to be on their show, I’m sure AI can handle getting better talent than this.
I am sooo happy right now! I can have my Tuesday and Wednesday nights back. There’s no way in hell I’ll be watching this dreck with these has-beens. Yuck. So bad, the shark jumped THEM!
Jamie Foxx??? Really, judging singers??? Really
“American Idol?” Never heard of it. Is it some kind of alternative religion?
Heh
haha no kidding right? that’s funny its hard for anyone not to hear about in some way shape or form!!! as far as the judges go i think its nice to have change!!!
Lightest to darkest, hmmmm. I can deal with JLo though makes me shudder, but Steven Tyler???? That’s the stupidest & lamest choice. Hurry X-Factor, hurry!
hm..They just don’t blend well together. I think there’s too much hair on the left..lol
LOL.
totally1…and nothing worthy of listening to the right. really:? they put RANDY JACKSON in cowell’s last word spot? here’s hoping the others say everything by the time it gets to him, because I don’t see the dawg trailblaizer adding much of anything to the mix. he hasn’t for the last 6 seasons. why start now?
Don’t care for Jennifer but she may do okay. Certainly better than Kara. Not sure about Steven Tyler but willing to give him a chance.
I agree – am slightly more optimistic about J-Lo and a bit baffled by Tyler, but ready to watch and see how it goes.
urgh. my heart weeps at the sight of that panel. jackson should have been cut a long time ago and i honestly can’t look at tyler long enough ’cause he looks like plastic surgery gone wrong.
should have put NPH and Shania on the panel instead.
Why is this show still on?
Because it’s the most watched show in America..
It’ll be interesting to see if it’s still the most watched show after this huge shake up.
Aren’t these types of generic comments getting old by now?
Nope… but the show is
Hmph, it appears Randy inherited Simon’s seat.
Ha! That was my thought exactly.. I guess seniority rules.
The writer clearly states that in the article.
Read words ugh? No!! Watch teevee and comment on pictures!
I can’t watch it! Simon is not there to give the contestants crap anymore! It just won’t be the same.
This show is over as far as I am concerned. They kept the worst of the remaining judges (Kara would have been a much better choice) and then the two new judges seem more like stunt casting than people who will give solid criticism. JLo is no singer so it is likely to be Paula-esque, and Tyler is/was a big talent, but is completely ego-driven and not known for coherence. I will be waiting for x-factor too.
I think Tyler will be the Paula. I think J-Lo is the only one that MIGHT have insight. Randy – dawg.
No. No… and um… no.
I don’t mind JLo; I seem to remember she was good as a mentor. But Steven Tyler is a ? for me and doesn’t seem the obvious fit for the kind of music AI does. Would have preferred to see Shania in there.
never liked KARA shes an awful songwriter and terrible judge VIVA LOPEZ !!!!
Pathetic. It’s really over now.
Yep, the AI ship is slowing sinking down…
True Idol fans will give these judges a chance, why is everyone so critical before the 1st show is aired, you could be surprised. Are all idol fans this negative? I will miss both Kara and Ellen so there! A better critique should be of the same ole song choices and themes, AI need to work on that in my opinion.
I totally agree. They need to revitalize their themes. Perhaps nothing older than MTV, since their age requirements fall in that range. I’m tired of hearing 16 year olds sing songs from the 50′s and 60′s that they don’t understand.
True Idol fans remember the glory days of this show, and the fact that it was defined by one Mr. Simon Cowell, whose absence is downright painful. That’s why we are so critical before the first show is aired. This nightmare picture says it all.
I quite enjoyed the press conference when the panel was officially announced. If production follows through on the promise of allowing the singers to develop their style within themes such as an era of music rather than a style of music and their in-house mentor actually mentors them individually rather than what might attract viewers, the reboot of the show might have a hope.
Who the judging panel is is insignificant to me unless they’re providing consistent performance feedback.
And, for the love of God, let the singers use ear monitors to be able to hear themselves, like they would use if they were actually singing live on television (which they are). I don’t care what the aesthetic of the monitors is, they serve a purpose and should be allowed.
