I love American Idol as much as the next person, but this seems to be a little over the top. It’s not like this press conference is the Oscars or something along those lines.

    • Mary

It’ll definitely be a fruitless effort if they announce the names that have already been circulating in the press for weeks.

      • ugly nikki

        seems like months

      • calistoga

New Idol will concentrate on letting contestants stick to their own genres!!! Best news I’ve heard all year. Outstanding news conference!!! There IS hope for Idol!

      • I KNOW!!!

I already new this news a while ago-TMZ. This is no shocker.

      • the problem

What I really care about is-what are they going to do about this ridiculous text voting?

      • Ashley

I’m glad to hear that Steven is going to be on the show. He’s always been a great man with great talent.

      • good!!!

Yes! Steven Tyler! IT TAKES A LEGEND…TO MAKE A STAR!

      • exactly

Yes he is. Very well said.

    • Elizabeth

Jim Gray and a Boys & Girls Club in Connecticut weren’t available? Come on Seacrest, thought you were connected!

      • cass

        LOL, I love snark.

      • Jamie

Yay! Now I can officially not watch.

      • mangagirl

I’m with Jamie, count me out. (I might sneek a peek on the first show)

    • Sean S.

they should also hold a special press conference to announce that there will be contestants on the show this year.

      • Anne U.

Lack of (good-enough) contestants might actually be a problem this season. I read online somewhere (not at EW, IIRC) that Idol producers were scheduling at least one additional session for auditions, well past the usual audition window. Hmmm. Anyway the J.Lo /S.Ty announcement makes me think I’m hearing a death rattle…

    • Pete

I can’t imagine having to look at Steven Tyler’s face week after week.

      • tarc

        Me, either. Geesh…ugh.

      • grow up

I can’t imagine having to continue listening to your douchebag comments on these boards. Try growing up a little bit!

      • EasternGale

He may sound amazing but the plastics on his face are allergic to high-def…and to my eyes.

      • Lullaby

‘Listening’? Really ‘Grow Up’? I didn’t know Pete’s voice could be heard through text…what form of Mac do you have, anyway?

      • Kim

Oh you should talk-at least they don’t have the name LULLABY. :)

      • DiAnne

SO GLAD RANDY IS STILL ON THE TEAM. LOVE J-LO, HATE STEVEN TYLER!

  • lunakit

Oh yay Slezak!! SOooo looking forward to your live blog…

  • Donna

Yeah, there isn’t much buzz around this since the news already leaked weeks ago…

  • wakeforce

Unless LeBron James is one of the judges, why bother?

    • conservativeblonde

      I love LeBron! And Randy!

      • lori

        Me too!

  • Bobby F

I’m ok with jlo, but if Steven Tyler really is the other judge, then yuck. Also, yes, Randy Jackson should just go already.

    • Stormy

Hopefully Tyler’s contract is only one season. I’m fine with JLO and love the idea of seeing the old Randy back. The Randy that saved Cook and Daughtry from extinction before Simon had it all his way.

  • Dean

This is “The Decision” Part II. And it will fail spectacularly, just like LeBron did. I couldn’t be LESS excited for a J-Lo/Steven Tyler/Randy Jackson panel. Ugh.

    • BlackIrish4094

      Agree.

  • Emily

    Bobby F —
I agree completely. Randy should have gone bye bye a long time ago. And the J-Lo idea sounds interesting, while the Steven Tyler idea is definitely not…

    • Plato

It’s definitely time for change up. Last season was a bit lethargic. I’m surprised Randy is still around. I’ve seen interviews with Tyler over the years and he might turn out to be a pretty good judge. We’ll see. He & JLo are coming from different musical perspectives, so that’s cool. Now we need some great singers. There weren’t enough interesting singers last year.

      • tatar69x

I found Siobhan Magnus, Crystal Bowersox, and the Aaron Kelly that emerged later on tour – very interesting entertainers!
And Lee Dewyze is going to show his forte is more in fresh songs and studio work than performing on stage.
I thought besides Siobhan being wrecked on judge’s bias and her own errors and having a too early departure – that Katie Stevens left too early. She was the 3rd strong female talent. (Also confused and undercut by bad judging).

Lets hope that producers and judges do a better job with the talented, interesting singers than they managed in S9.

I know I wish that J-Lo and Steve Tyler had been on last season to encourage and but also help control and guide Siobhan Magnus – who was the real ratings magnet of S9 the Show squandered. (Tyler might have got the excess screaming bit quashed – takes one to know one). And get Casey energized. Give Aaron the confidence he needed to fulfill his talent potential.

      • Sia

JLO hates Tyler, so that could be interesting.

      • Anne

That diva better not cause trouble for the show!

      • Plato

@tatar69x: I agree that Siobhan had a great deal to offer, but she seemed to lose her confidence along the way. I would like to see her have a career on her own terms. Crystal was my favorite, but I like Lee as well.
@Sia: I hadn’t heard that JLo hated Tyler. If that’s true, it could make for some exciting TV.

  • Stacy E

Please let the speculation be wrong. Unless Harry Connick Jr is there I’m unimpressed. I do think J Lo could be good but I’m not thrilled with Steven Tyler as a choice. I mean I’ll give them a chance but …

    • Ana170

He is a bit overqualified. Most of the judges have been people who haven’t really made an impact or haven’t quite been successful. I know Paula and Ellen have had a lot of success but Paula was primarily a dancer and Ellen was a comedian.

  • anna

    i have no volume?

    • RK

      I’ll write louder.

      • Em

        Heh

  • maj

epic fail by AI.. no sounds and we already knew it would be JLo and Steven Tyler..

  • Sarah

Seriously, you need an announcement to tell us what we already know? Ridiculous!! Are we seeing the end?

  • walrus

    RIP Aerosmith 1971-2010

    • MW

      My thoughts exactly.

    • silverrose

is anyone else thinkin Rockstar: Aerosmith?

      • Em

        That would be GREAT!

      • MW

Funny,I actually DID think about that. I wondered if they still made that show!

      • Susie

Silverrose…LOVED that reality show Rockstar…and miss it! But NOBODY can replace Steven (guessing that your a Aerohead and know this…just saying.) Walrus is correct with his RIP statement. My world is dead too without Aerosmith…just saying. ;)

      • agreed

I agree with you Susie…no one has Stevens voice. I think of the song I don’t wanna miss a thing and I realize…no one could do a better job than Steven did at singing that song. Your loss Joe! Joe is a jealous jerk! Even John Kalodner who has worked with them said that Joe is completely wrong and jealous.

      • silverrose

        @ Susie

your right, but from what iv heard from Joe, i wouldnt put it past his to try something like Rockstar.

  • dianne

I’m sorry, but didn’t we know all of this weeks ago? Why the press conference?

  • DudeLooksLikeALady

yeah, yeah, dude looks like a judge…..

  • silverrose

and so begins the final sad season of AI

    • ugly nikki
