'The Dilemma' trailer: Vince Vaughn knows a secret about Winona Ryder

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

Doesn’t everyone want a friend like Vince Vaughn? Sure, he’s the life of the party who never turns down the opportunity to start a fraternity or engage in a illegal gang fighting, but would he tell you if your wife is cheating on you? Eh, that depends. In The Dilemma, directed by Ron Howard, Vaughn and Kevin James are co-workers and best friends. They support each other in big meetings, suffer through the odd musings of Queen Latifah, and even go on double dates with their perfect spouses (Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder) together. But Vaughn quickly learns that James’ “perfect” marriage is on the verge of falling apart when he catches his wife with Channing Tatum. (Disclaimer: While some at PopWatch believe Kevin James to be a total hottie, he’s totally out of his league here when compared to the tanned, tattooed Tatum. Sorry, Kev.) Unsure of what to do, Vaughn resorts to soliciting strangers about ways to handle this (typing James an anonymous note and sticking it in his dresser drawer doesn’t seem to be one of them. Guess he doesn’t watch Jersey Shore), learning the various meanings of  the “guy code,” and getting some nasty-looking rash in the process. Take a look and tell us what you think.

The Dilemma is scheduled to hit theaters in January 2011. Considering Howard’s last feature film was the Oscar-nominated Frost/Nixon, is anyone else a little surprised to see this as his follow-up? Or given his success with Funny or Die videos, is doing something lighter the right move?

It doesn’t look that funny, but I’m a huge fan of Winona, Jennifer Connelly, and The Narrator.

They lost me at Queen Latifah. I was totally buying it RIGHT up until then.

agree! It’s great to see Winona Ryder in movies again.
Queen Latifah is pretty hilarious too

I hope it turns out that Winona’s character isn’t a cheater and it’s all a misunderstanding. I don’t want to see her in the role of a shrew.

I don’t care if it turns out she is a triple axe murderer! As long as she is on screen for more than 30 seconds (JJ Abrams I talking aobut you!). Like most of her fans, I think the best therapy for her is great roles!!

I agree with this statement. Winona Ryder is awesome. So I will be seeing this movie no matter what.

      • Drew

        I second this.

      • Emilia

same here! The moment I saw winona onscreen I knew for sure that I was going to see this movie. <3

Ron Howard’s filology is highly uneven. Love to see Winona back! Missed her. However: doesn’t look very promising to me. Vince Vaughn is playing same role again and again. Hope Howard had cast somebody else for the main part.

Vince Vaughn is the male Jennifer Anniston. He only plays himself.

  • Jack

Vaughn is carrying this whole thing on his shoulders. Looks ok.

It reminded me of that Forbes (I think) article saying Vince Vaughn is the best investment in Hollywood.

That was in 2008. Since then he is out of the top 10. Thinks Four Xmas and Couples Retreat.

Can’t watch the trailer right now, but isn’t January the month they dump the losers? The movies that had real money and stars and turn out to be mediocre–not direct to DVD, but dull or slow or blah.

  • The Jackal

Well it has Channing Tatum in it, so it’s on my not to see list. Horrible actor.

    • Jackie

Why do people say that and still watch his movies.

ooooooooohhhhh yeah, Channing Tatum is a very talented actor what the hell…..

Channing Tatum large fanbase will be watching this movie for sure.

Hmmm. As TT mentioned, Howard’s ouevre is wildly uneven, and I get major “Gung Ho” vibes from this. Nice to see Ryder back on screen again, but Connelly has never evinced much flair for comedy. I just hope that it’s better than Vaughn’s “Couples Retreat.”

How many movies does Vince Vaugh have to make that seem similar to every other movie he’s made? One note actor. His name on the billboard shouts ‘skip’ to me every time. His tedious performance in this trailer already scream ‘dud’.

I am just so surprised that Howard is making a comedy. It doesn’t look that great, but I am interested because of Winona. And did anyone else see Howard’s brother?!! Because of Family Guy I will always remember that!!!

  • Karate Pants

I would definitely take Kevin James over that mildly cross-eyed, vanilla Channing Tatum!

    • Jo-Jo

CHANNING TATUM CHANNING TATUM CHANNING TATUM. Seriously, Kevin James someone bring me a bucket.

  • anne

@Jackal Here’s where I differ: It has Channing Tatum in it so I WILL see it.

  • jennab

This movie just looks gawd-awful! Love Kevin James, clear money-grab by Vaughn & Howard. Uggh! How did Connelly get roped into this?

  • KM

I’m so excited to see Winona back. She’s awesome. And Jennifer Connelly! I will see anything with her in it. I just wish she would get meatier roles like she used to. Lately, she’s just been playing the boring wife roles. Give her something else to do!

  • Bella

This doesn’t look good at all. With the names involved you’d think they’d do something better. Nice to see Winona back but you barely get a glimpse of her here, or Jennifer.

VERY glad to be seeing Winona again! It’s very nice to see she is coming out of her cocoon. Honestly, what I’d really like to see is her driving a film. No more minor characters ala Star Trek and the upcoming Black Swan (though I’m counting down the minutes until this comes out!!). This definitely doesn’t look really like a Ron Howard work; I’m pretty sure it’s not going to reach the awesomeness of Arrested Development. But I’ve liked some of his not so great work (Far and Away … though I now have serious problems watching Tom Cruise). Vaughn usually annoys the bejesus out of me but he looks actually okay in this one. I thought it was a bad idea to open with that awkward gay joke in the trailor – I hope that scene in the movie plays better. Also not a huge Kevin James fan, but I love Queen Latifah and Jennifer Connelly will always have my love for Labrinth and her husband Paul Bettany. I’m seeing this in the theater.
    Winona, make more movies okay.
