Anybody here want to go 10 rounds with Mark Wahlberg? Didn’t think so. But we can’t wait to step into the ring with him in The Fighter, the new David O. Russell film based on the true comeback story of boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward. The movie’s first trailer just hit the Interwebs, and from the looks of it, this might be a serious Oscar contender: award show favorites Wahlberg, Christian Bale (as his brother), and Amy Adams (as Wahlberg’s love interest) all seem to be in top form, and everyone knows the Academy loves itself an underdog in the ring (see: Rocky, Million Dollar Baby, The Wrestler, etc.). See for yourself in the clip below.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Does The Fighter look like a knockout to you?

Um, Christian Bale hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar…? “past nominees Wahlberg, Christian Bale”
…and yet Melissa Leo is and the trailer makes no mention of her.
Yeah, and what’s really dumb is that EW named him in their list of notable people who have not received an Oscar nomination. Research fail for this article!
It’s a little known fact that Christian Bale was the sound editor on Spiderman 2, and was in fact nominated for an Oscar in 2005.
Wow…I learned something new today. Thanks for the Oscar trivia.
for real!!!
Heh? I had no idea…
The freeze frame on the trailer of Bale’s face=priceless.
Knockout!
Wahlberg at 2:05 is YUMMY
I’m more partial to Amy Adams in her underwear at 2:06. Either way, this trailer delivers!
Oscar bait!
Looks good, and Christian Bale is rocking the Boston accent.
What is it with the trailers now, though, where I feel like I’ve already seen the whole movie?
Christian Bale is going to be amazing in this film!!!!!!!!! Maybe EW got their info wrong about Bale being a past nominee but after this he will have that Oscar nomination that he deserved 23 years ago!
I’ll add this to my list of December must sees! Mark Wahlberg looks AMAZING!!!
Christian is NOT an actor that always plays the same part the same way. At all. He can act the sh*t out of anything.
If that’s your opinion of Christian Bale, you need to see 3:10 to Yuma. Portrays a man of humble integrity with a broken spirit so perfectly, and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen him do. Particularly in the last half hour, he does so many little things and it’s the little things, IMO, that differentiate a great performance from a good one.
You lack reading comprehension.
LOL
haha!! they corrected themselves!!! now it is award show favorites!!!!
Ha ha, you changed it! “Past nominees” are now “award show favorites.”
Bale in 3:10 to Yuma is my absolute favorite performance from him, especially in the last 30 min. Portrays a broken man of humble integrity flawlessly and is a far cry from his usually confident characters.
Oops. I originally misread Sarah’s comment to read that Bale can’t act. Then my computer had problems and I thought my original didn’t post. Sorry. My bad for posting a similar thing twice.
Didn’t know Amy Adams was in this. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Academy gave her a nomination in even this small of a part. The AMPAS has a total tent in their pants for her.
christian looks scary looking. he needs to stop losing so much weight.
Yeah, he’s not quite down to “Machinst” levels, but it’s definitely a transformation.
He looks like he’s great in this movie, but you figure it’ll eventually catch up healthwise.
He was thin because the charecter he was portraying, at certain points of the movie, was a drug addict.
