MythBusters, Discovery’s Emmy-nominated reality series, returns Oct. 6 with new episodes. According to a network release, the following myths will be either confirmed, deemed plausible, or busted this fall. I’ve bolded the five myths I’m most looking forward to seeing Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, and Grant Imahara test. Your picks?
• What really happens when you take candy from a baby?
• Can a 747 simulate the havoc of a real tornado? (A runner-up: Not something I’m dying to know, but they always have fun with destruction.)
• Can a sniffer dog be thrown off the scent using household items?
• Is it possible to recreate an ancient killing device in modern day America? (Note: If I knew what this meant, it would be a contender.)
• What happens when the poop literally hits the fan? (What kind of poop will they use? Dog? Cow? Horse?)
• Do people really get cold feet when they are afraid?
• Is 007 for real when he peels off his dive suit to reveal a perfectly pressed tuxedo? (I will be less upset by this than them busting the Real Genius house of overflowing popcorn.)
• Could your laptop save you from a speeding bullet? (I’m a writer in New York, this could be useful.)
• What is the safest way to sneeze without spreading germs?
• Is it really possible to pull a tablecloth out from underneath a set table (using a motorcycle)?
• If your car turns upside down in deep water, is it still possible to safely get out? (This is assuming someone actually gets in the car, wearing a scuba tank.)
• Can you really slap sense into someone? (Another runner-up: How will they test this exactly?)
• Is driving tired more dangerous than driving slightly inebriated? (I presume they’ll go method.)
• Do humans really use only 10 percent of their brain?

Mythbusters… the show that put the Discovery Channel on my DVR radar.
Cant wait for some new stuff!!
i hope it is proven true that he can take off his wet suit and have a perfectly dry suit on underneath!!! it has to be true!!! i am amazed it has only taken 46 years for someone to prove this!!!
Wetsuit cant fit over a regular suit. over-sizing it to make it fit will only make the wetsuit leak. but hey, its james bond, so he can have his people (with unlimited funds) make him a custom wetsuit that is bigger around the rest of the body, but water-tight around the edges.
Mythbusters can do anything.
It doesn’t matter if the wetsuit is oversized or not, all wetsuits “leak” which is why they are called wetsuits. The only way for this myth to work would be to wear a drysuit over the tux since a drysuit doesn’t allow any water in but even then it might still wrinkle the tux.
46 yrs ago, the wetsuits were not like they are today. They were more like Drysuits that totally kept water out. It may not come out pressed, but it should be dry. You generally wear a fleece undergarment when using a modern day Drysuit, and that stays dry.
I agree with Riceball. A wetsuit works by surrounding your body with a thin later of water that your body keeps warm between the wetsuit and the skin.
A drysuit has water-tight seals at the neck and wrists. So this is the best option. I suppose if it’s still pressed depends on how long you’re underwater, and if you let the suit compress down and wrinkle you up.
I can’t comment on Ray’s comment as I don’t know what a 46 year old wetsuit looked like or functioned like.
they’ve already done many of the myths listed here.
I would like to see them bust/confirm the rumor that playing a Pixar movie can repair screen burn-in on plasma tvs.
Why don’t you try it yourself. I’m sure you could get a plasma off o eBay with screen burn pretty cheap
That is something I have Not heard of! Interestng, but I am guessing no. Burn in leaves permanent damage on monitors, so I would figure so on the plasmas…But if it works, that would be very interesting!
Is is possible to come up with something that smells so bad, it can be used to repel sharks, who have an excellent sense of smell? In other words, make the sharks highly developed sense of smell work against them and be used as a repellant. I look forward to the new season of Mythbusters. Also, I suggest wearing that tuxedo under a “dry suit”, not a “wet suit”. Dry suits keep out the water, wet suits let a little water in.
they found that magnetic fields repel sharks probably better than any scent that could be used.
but they busted the magnet to a shark myth. the sharks still went after the chum that was in a magneticaly protected crate….
There was a program on about an incident at the Farallon Islands (not too far from MythBusters) where a Great White shark was killed by an Orca. It was noticed that the Great White shark population disappeared right after the attack. Some scientists brewed up a concoction from a dead Great White shark and found it to be a potent repellent of Great Whites.
Actually dead of ost any species will keep that species away. I heard something on the radio about a guy who tricked some ants by spraying the with the smell of dead ants and they were carried away to the death room by the other ants.
Yeah, I don’t see any way in which that tuxedo DOESN’T get completely wrinkled by the tight-fitting wetsuit.
Polyester? Wrinkle free and ready to disco!
Taking candy from a baby? Can’t wait to see the self-loathing on their faces while doing that one.
Kari’s kid?
This show ran out of ideas a long time ago, but I still love watching it.
I disagree. But to each his own I guess
I don’t think they run out of ideas, if they did it wouldn’t be airing still. They said they had over 100 new stories, watched it via the fan site. Discovery UK keeps messing the schedule. I cant wait for this episodes
I think most humans typically use less than 1% of their brain power.
Myself included.
Even worse, some people doesn’t even seem to know that they have a brain, or that they need to make good use of them.
I’d really like for them to send Adam, alone, into a very scary old country house at night with a handheld camera and make him say “candyman” in front of the bathroom mirror 5 times.
At Dargon*Con, Adam Savage was talking about the car upside-down episode. He said it was so scary that he’s not going to let his mom watch it. He said he felt the issue needed to be re-addressed. Being that being trapped in a car underwater is one of my biggest fears, THAT’S the episode I’m looking forward to!
Er, make that Dragon*Con.
Is it possible to simulate a black hole?
not without destroying everythhing……
Not one single episode I wish to see!
I can’t believe they signed on for 7 more seasons.
If i was to trying to stop a sniffing dog i would while wearing gloves & changing them & clothes w showering in between each step. step 1 get mental cans that we can reseal w weilding the lid back on. put drugs in can change gloves. fill cans w coffee & black pepper .change gloves. seal cans. now take the cans put them inside a gas tank w gas so now u can drive away. The biggest mistakke is transfer between each step.
I feel it to be a total shame that Mythbusters continue to air shows as if they were “new”, under new names like “Buster’s Cuts” etc and then a rerun. I wait with bated breath to see what they air on Oct 6 … or I’ll be reprogramming myh DVR to NOT record Mythbusters!
