'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' TV spot premieres

The new TV spot for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — which debuted during last night’s season premiere of The Vampire Diaries — is making the rounds, and while it doesn’t add all that much to the film’s chill-inducing full trailer, it works a similar vein of bleak desperation among the Hogwarts crew. See after the jump for the 30-second spot.

Is there anything creepier than Voldemort hissing, “I have seen your heart…and it is mine”? Among the fresh glimpses: A spectral Voldemort, a ghostly Dumbledore, and Hagrid and Harry on a motorbike. Perhaps it’s a measure of the film’s darkness, but the only moment of hope appears to be a friendly voiceover (Lupin?) saying, “You can’t fight this war on your own.” Presumably Harry will have plenty of help as the final chapters unfold. Just how excited are you for this?

    • Jane

  • jordan

so great, gives me goosebumps every time!

  • Lemon

Whoa, that bit with Rupert Grint running in terror is intense. This movie is going to be totally overwhelming, emotionally. In a good way.

  • Liz

Dude, I’m so excited for this movie that I swear to god I jump up and down and squeal every time I hear the theme music or hear Voldemort whisper, “Harry Potter” when the ads are starting.

    • Casey

I was so excited when I saw this during one of TVD’s commercial breaks. I was like “Look look, it’s Harry Potter! God that looks awesome.”

  • Penny

I just teared up watching this. I feel like Harry Potter is a child that was raised by the world and I am so proud of the man he becomes in the 7th book. It’s totally insane but it’s just how I feel.

    • Erin

Feel the same way. Reading those books was like standing next to him throughout his whole adventure.

    • MomC

I totally agree. I am raising kids now and it is all I can do to keep them from watching the movies. I want them to discover and grow with Harry Potter on the page first.

      • chris

        same here!

    • erin

You capture it exactly!! We have “grown” alongside Harry, Hermione and Ron. They and we go this like epic journey, and we do too. I am proud of all of them in the end. I guess I always knew I’d be proud of the main three, it’s Neville who really surprised me.

      • Penny

YES! I seriously get the biggest, “mom” smile on my face when he makes his appearance in book 7. When he comes out of the passageway to meet them, I literally cannot contain my pride in how awesome he has become! Ha! My non Harry Potter reading friends don’t get it. They think I’m crazy! They don’t seem to realize that Harry Potter has been in my life longer than most of them!

  • Jose

    AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Laura W

    One word: EPIC!!!

  • astoria

I get chills just by reading the words Deathly Hallows and tv It’s just so close to been a reality.

  • Sofia

“I have seen your heart…and it is mine” is one of my fav scenes and I that they might have changed it.
(Spoiler Just in case) Althought they edited really well in the tv spot because Voldemort actually tells it to Ron in the locket scene. I seriously can’t wait for this. Why November is still so far away!! *sigh*

    • Kat

Yeah, they took the “Harry Potter” from the past trailer.

  • bamalam

You know what I hope they don’t change at all…Hermione’s super prepared-ness that she showed throughout the book…there were countless times when she was the sole reason they got away from their troubles and I hope the movie really shows that.

    • Harrison

I completely agree. For the first six books it was like, oh, guys, Hermione’s really smart and all but very little is going to come of that and Harry isn’t going to see her value as a friend very much. Even when she does something really intelligent– figure out about the basilisk- it is made irrelevant and still left up to the boys to ultimately solve since she’s petrified. Then, you get to the seventh book and it’s like WHAM, Hermione’s saving everyone’s ass approximately every 50 pages and staying by Harry’s side, unlike Ron. It’s sweet and I hope they highlight that in the movie too.

      • Celia

True DAT! She’s always brilliant but she really blew me away in Deathly Hallows. Hermione’s role in DH will be done justice in the film because she’s the screenwriter’s favorite character. :)

      • liza

I agree! Through the first six books I always wondered why Hermione wasn’t placed in Ravenclaw because she clearly has wit beyond measure (man’s greatest treasure!), but the Deathly Hallows answered that loud and clear. Girl’s got courage almost as deep as Harry’s and it’ll be nice to see that displayed in addition to her cleverness.

I loved Hermoine thruough the entire series. She was always the strongest of the three. I hate to say it, but the other two were just lucky to befriend her. I do love all the characters though. This is how sad it is: I cried so much when I read the Prince’s tale. That chapter had some serious impact on me. I actually thought of the ’99 Columbine incident, when the kids went rogue for being picked on. I felt Snape had done the same thing since he used to get picked on, he went to the dark side. I try to be kind to everyone I meet, always have and always will. I can’t help but wonder, how would have turned out if the Marueders had been nice to Snape…

  • Melissa

SOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!! But also preparing myself for disappointment, as the movies are never as good as I hope.

    • Kat

Do that and the movie is ruined. You need to enter each movie with a positive atitude. Otherwise there’s no point on watching them just to be dissapointed.

      • Penny

You need to think of them as separate entities. I always think of the movies as a story that has similar characters and a similar plot but is totally different. If you can separate them and think of it as something entirely new then it’s a lot easier to enjoy the movies. It’s like a remake of classic television.

      • Gazza

The trick is to not read the book before you see the movie. I used to do this to “refresh” my knowledge and ended up constantly comparing the movie to the book instead of enjoying. I have actually refused to touch my copy of Deathly Hallows until I see the movie, though two months before should be enough.

      • Kelly

@Gazza-I was thinking that exact same thing while reading this article. I need to read the book now so that it will be familiar enough to get excited but fuzzy enough not be nit-picking through the entire movie.

  • Cherica

that was freaking awesome!! can’t wait for the movie to come out

    • lia

I think you mean TOTALLY AWESOME…

  • Snapez

Man Im gonna die of excitement… November seems yet SO far away!…

    • Chloe

      Please November come sooner!!!

  • steph

ahhhhh hurry up and get here novemberrrr!!!

    • November

It is I, November. I am very busy. I will be there at the usual time. Be patient.

      • albertkitten
