If there really is no such thing as coincidence, then the universe desperately wants me to tune in to the Sept. 11 episode of the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly. The first indication of this fact came yesterday in the form of an email from my sister Kathy that ended with the following bit of intel: “By the way, the boys [my nephews Philip and Peter] and I love to watch iCarly on Nick, and the ‘bad girl’ friend on the show is Sam. In a new episode on Saturday, September 11, Jane Lynch will guest star as Sam’s mother. We have never seen this character before, but her reputation precedes her! It should be a lot of fun, and you should try to watch. Maybe even do a PopWatch item about it. I’ll let you know what I think of the episode after it airs, but the promos are great!!” [Note presence of double exclamation point as added enticement.] It’s worth mentioning, by the way, that I got Kathy hooked on Glee –and Lynch’s Emmy-winning performance as Sue Sylvester — by insisting she watch the show in reruns this summer.
Then, today, I get an email from a Nickelodeon publicist offering an exclusive clip from the “iSam’s Mom” episode. And because I’m not the kind of person who enjoys infuriating the universe (or my sister), I’m sharing the clip after the jump.
Any you you planning to watch Jane Lynch on iCarly? Or are you such a big fan of the show that you’d be watching it anyway? Sound off below, and for all my pop-culture musings, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak.

Love iCarly, love Sam, and glad the mother validated that Melanie is really Sam’s sister…WHEW.
Slezak, this makes my heart smile. I have recently come out of the closet as an iCarly fan, and was BLOWN AWAY by how many of my friends (all over 30, and many are childless) who are also fans.
My daughter and I watch iCarly because it’s a show we both like.
And now Jane Lynch will be on it… I am so excited!
I am an over-30 iCarly fan as well LOL! I haven’t seen it lately because of my work schedule so I didn’t know Jane Lynch was going to be on but now it’s a must watch!
I love Spencer. I’m forty three years old, it seems wrong.
I dig how JL accepts these rolls.
yeah, she took this role to make her step daughter happy. too cute!
The guy who plays Spencer is 33 years old, so dont feel too dirty! I am a 48 year old man. I started watching iCarly with my granddaughter. I think it plays like a great wacky 1970′s sitcom. Great cast. The guy who plays Spencer is very funny in my opinion. Glad to hear they elevated Gibby to the main cast too(rather than a recurring character).
Wow. I though that I was the only 39 year old watching this show! I have a niece and nephews who started watching “iCarly” and “Drake and Josh” nearly two years ago and they love it! And I happen to love Spencer’s antics! But I thought that Jerry Trainer was even funner on “Drake & Josh”! Uh, did I forget to mention that I have a niece and nephews?
I too am in my thirties, childless, and an iCarly fan. I have yet to come out to my friends about this. Anyway, I can’t wait to see the Jane Lynch episode.
i’ll wait until somebody rips jane lynch’s parts, pastes them together, and puts it on youtube.
can’t wait! big fan of icarly’s quirkiness and humor. lynch is a perfect choice for sam’s oft-mentioned mom.
I watch iCarly anyway with my son so I definitely won’t be missing this.
With an 11 year old daughter iCarly is always on at our house, although it’s one of the best kid shows out there!
looks stupid
Solution: Don’t watch it.
You’re welcome.
I love iCarly. I watch it with my son all the time. I’m really looking forward to this episode.
Jane Lynch ain’t on iCarly for a paycheck – she obviously has great taste in comedy and knows it’s the most underrated sitcom on the air. Anyone who refuses to watch it because it’s a Nick show with a laugh track instead of a single-camera NBC Thursday night show doesn’t deserve it.
I LOVE iCarly. My kids introduced it to me but I like it so much that I watch it even when they are not around. Jane Lynch as Sam’s mom is PERFECT casting. Michael, I dare you to watch it and not get hooked!
Good, I’m not the only adult with an iCarly fixation. I do have actual children that I used to “blame” for my constant watching of it, but now I just fully claim it. It’s funnier than most of the “adult” comedies on the air right now. Jane Lynch is just icing on the cake; I thought Sam’s mom would remain an unseen character in the vein of Maris from Frasier.
You will love iCarly, Michael! The show is great (my kids turned me onto it LOL). Jane Lynch is perfect casting based on what we have heard about Sam’s mom! Can’t wait!
I watch iCarly with my daughter religiously. Love, love, love Spencer.
