'Big Brother' instant react: Singing clams and sock puppets and dance parties, oh my!

big-brother-castImage Credit: Cliff Lipson/CBSIf any casual TV-watching viewer who doesn’t usually watch Big Brother tuned into tonight’s episode of CBS’ reality weirdfest, they’d probably be speechless—sock puppets and random, unannounced dance parties? Really? Oh yah, and there was a clam named Otev (that’s “veto” cleverly spelled backward, for the uninitiated) who sang Broadway-ish tunes, too! It was, without a doubt, a very bizarre night in the Big Brother house. (SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read on if you haven’t watched tonight’s episode.)

The wackiness began right from the beginning. To launch the wacky evening, the remaining House Guests—that’s Britney, Enzo, Hayden, Lane, and Ragan—had a ceremony to basically “evict” the penguin suit that Enzo had been wearing for that last while. And, honestly, that wasn’t even weird after the rest of the hour unfolded. The Veto Competition followed, and that’s where the classy, show tune singing clam Otev came into play. The House Guests were challenged to, after hearing a song sung by Otev with mashed-up lyrics about two evicted House Guests, to find a CD with a hybrid song name that featured both House Guests from the song. Get it? So that’d be CDs with songs like “Monett” (Monet and Matt) or “Mathy” (Matt and Kathy).

The twist here? Enzo finally won a competition! After a very heated battled with Ragan. Which means that, of course, Enzo took himself off the block. “That,” Lane said, of Enzo’s zealous dive for the final CD, which knocked Ragan out of the way, “made up for any loss you had all season.” And, really, it was quite the win for Enzo. The Meow Meow, naturally, had lots of great sound bites about his win: “Papa got the bling-bling!” he shouted, before adding: “Now the Meow Meow starts to play!” Well, then, welcome to game, Enzo. Finally! Ragan, defeated and sure to stay on the block, sulked.

And if the Veto Competition weren’t crazy enough, that’s when all the real ridiculata of the evening began. You see, the house had two punishments left for when Lane opened Pandora’s Box. First up: The House Guest had to speak exclusively using sock puppets for 12 hours. There was a moment where Ragan sulked to himself, yet again, with his sock puppet that was just…beyond. Yah, we’ll go with beyond. (Pathetic is more like it.) The second punishment? Random dance parties! Whenever music came on in the house, day or night, the House Guests had to stop whatever they were doing and dance until the music stopped. All that proved one thing: No one currently in the Big Brother house can really dance. (Where’s Rachel when you need her?) Actually, Enzo was probably the best groover, but Lane and Hayden? Even the boys on Jersey Shore could show up them up with their fist pumping any day.

And, finally, after almost an hour of silliness, we got the Veto Meeting, but it was no surprise: Enzo used the Power of Veto to take himself off the block. And Lane decided to spare his current squeeze Britney and throw Hayden up for eviction. Not that it really matters, right? We all pretty much know that Ragan is probably going home tomorrow. He’s got no friends in the house—except for, of course, that sock puppet.

Do you agree? Is Ragan getting evicted tomorrow? Or could there be a twist of fate that sees Hayden head to the Jury House? Did your head explode at the level of crazy that transpired in the house tonight?

I miss Legends of the Hidden Temple. I’ve always wanted to assemble a monkey body, and am entirely sure I could do it faster than those kids could.

Otev reminded me so much of Olmec. How dare they throw CD’s at him.

    • EssBee

I too thought of Olmec last night!

    • yeah

agree, show him respect! great show btw

  • Lili

And yet another copy from BBUK: the puppets!! And the ones from BBUK were pretty great. Still…it was funny tonight!

    • Ally

It is just a shame what BB is having to do to keep the show interesting since this whole cast just sits around, sleeps and complaining. BORING.

      • Kathy

I think I’ve only been watching BB out of habit and because I am a voyeur. They’re not smart or mean enough to be interesting, and they’re not nice enough (except for Hayden) to like or root for. I wish “production” could vote for who they like best, who they’d liked to have won, who they thought was the funniest, the nicest, the meanest, whatever. I only see the Showtime 3 hrs and it would be fun to hear who “production” would vote for.

  • Mm

I think Enzo should be penalized for eating 2 pieces of pizza as a have not

    • jen

Agreed! Not to mention the cheese and candy he also ate while a Have Not. Fortunately for him producer Alison Grodner is willing to ignore any and all BB “rules” to help the Brigade make Final 3.

    • Dean

Didn’t Enzo break the rules by failing to use the sock puppet when he was talking about golf? They keyed in on it like they were going to show that they failed. Was the house penalized and they didn’t show it? LOL at “inviction.”

      • ShannonW

Well even his puppet’s mouth got blurred when Enzo’s did, so I guess the puppet was talking.

    • Gata

      Pizza is described in “slices”…

      • Sunflowrskies

It’s a regional dialect kind of thing – here in the South you eat a piece of pizza, not a slice of pizza

      • Jeff

I grew up in New Jersey where it was “pieces.” Now I live in New York where it’s “slices.” I resolved the issue by becoming lactose intolerant.

      • Doremifah Solatido

More human sterilization would prevent use of the term “pieces” when discussing pizza…..

    • darclyte

And not using the sock puppet to talk half the time.

      • Laurin

        I noticed that too!!!!

  • dublin04

If Ragan knows what’s good for him, he’ll talk to Britney about the Brigade and help to vote out Hayden

  • Sheila

    Ragan is a flamer.

    • Sheila is a dumbass.

      • pitt

Ha! And her comeback below is a real zinger…

    • Gummo

      Brendon’s a p*ssy

      • notluvin

no that’s what the meow meow stands for! lol, Hey if the fur fits!

  • Erin

I am embarrassed at how much & how loud I laughed at the dance punishment.

    • Kim from Texas

I think that was the first and only time that I have seen Lane without a shirt all season on CBS so three-cheers for the dance punishment.

      • AJ

Boy do I agree….I would LOVE to see far far less of Hayden shirtles and FAR FAR MORE of Lane shirtless. Note to BB producers: make it happen! We need our Texas Beef!

    • Sil

      Me too!

    • caryn

      I loved it!

    • darclyte

They didn’t show my favorite moment from that. Hayden was in the shower when the music came on. His hair was all wet, and he was shaking and jerking his head and the water was flinging off, all while he had this goofy look on his face. It was pretty funny, but the HGs are terrible dancers.

    • Kelly

That’s how sad this season has become… when sock puppets are far more entertaining than the remaining contestants.

  • Sheila

    Whatever!

  • Brett

My favorite weird moment in a very strange episode: When Enzo dropped an F-bomb (talking about golf), they digitally blurred his mouth. And they also blurred his sock puppet’s “mouth.”

    • Rebekah

OH, I totally missed that. The whole conversation was funny, but that small tidbit makes it hilarious! I am so sad I missed it.

      • betsy

Go to CBS.com – they usually replay the show.

    • darclyte

That was the best moment of the night! I love odd censor blurs on tv shows that sometimes make no sense. My GF was watching an episode of Cheaters and they were filming the cheating couple playing a Star Trek Voyager video arcade game, and they blurred 7of9′s chest even though she had clothes on. Censor editors are odd and funny people.

    • Laurin

      That WAS hysterical!!!

    • Nicole

      I enjoyed that too!!

    • mark

haha i noticed that too, Brett! I loved it!

    • Mari

OMG! I totally saw it and pointed it out to my husband. We watched it about three times. Too funny :)

  • mike

The dance thing reminded me of the first season of the show as that was one of their ‘challenges’.

  • Kim from Texas

Hayden seems to be friends with everyone. The smart thing is to vote him out. However, I don’t think that Enzo and/or Lane (in case of tie) is smart enough to figure that out.

    • Lilly Ann

I agree! Too bad. I’m sure they’ll regret this when Hayden wins…

    • Heather

I agree too. Well maybe now that Lane has gone against the brigade and wants to go to final 2 with Britney, maybe he will listen to Ragan pleading and know that he will have ragan and britney on his side vs. the one and done enzo

    • Mavis

I think Britney was really putting a little worm in Lane’s head about how popular Hayden is. So even though it seems like a slam dunk, I’m not really sure Ragan is going to jury house tonight. I think Lane will be forced to break a tie and vte Hayden.

  • Michelle

@Brett I saw that too and laugh.

  • Dean

The blurred sock puppet when Enzo was cursing was a nice touch. Also loved the shot of Ragan’s puppet crying.

    • Ashley

the sock puppets are more entertaining than the HGs.

  • Steven

Britney’s became suddenly sexier to me when she started talking about NFL QBs. Watching her dance was kinda hot too.

    • Mad Andy

Mos def. Brittany is a totally hot POA, and since the annoying Monet left she has been shown to be really hilarious. Her diary room segments are hysterical.

    • PGV

WOW!! You guys must be desperate for girls. Britney is a self-absorbed, spoiled rotten brat. Monet being gone only makes her egocentric princess behavior less obvious. The girl has no redeeming values, other than looking hot to you guys.

      • Dean

Oh take an effing chill pill PGV. I don’t like the girl myself, I was just making an innocent comedic remark. Get off your high horse.

    • Ken

I also laughed at her comment about how she doesn’t surf in ky jelly, believe it or not. sometimes she is really funny, but most of the time her cattiness is a turnoff.

      • Doremifah Solatido

True, Ken. But I would SO put a hurtin’ on that piece of a$$……so small, so round, so fully packed!

  • KC

Aw, looks like Ragan’s time is up. I’m sorry about that I wanted him to win. Would be a good underdog getting ahead story. I was rooting for him to win that Veto.

    • tom

I’m not so sure — what is the benefit for Lane & Britney to keep Hayden? Her vote plus his tie breaker sends out a very strong competitor, one who would almost certainly put up both of them next week if given the chance. Send him home, and you have a greater than 75% chance (given Enzo’s track record) that next weeks noms will be Enzo and someone. Even if Ragan wins, he’s very likely nominating Enzo and one of the others, leaving whoever’s not nominated to bounce Enzo. Britney is smart enough to reason this out, and Lane is smart enough to see the logic and follow her advice.

      • KC

I hope you’re right. And yes Britney is smart enough to figure it out. PLUS – Rachel hates Ragan, and it’s a given Brendon will vote with her so Britney will figure that’s 2 votes for her for sure. Ragan, there may be hope for you yet chin up little fella :)

      • davey

I just don’t think Britney and Lane will make that big of a move tonight. Ragan is surely going BYE BYE! He played a good game…but it looks like it’s the end of his rope now.

    • Lucy

but he’s so lame and pathetic!

  • KC

And BBUK did that same task with puppets this year. It was hysterical. And BBUSA’s puppets look pretty lame to theirs. Yes, I know they’re sock puppets – but they look like they cost about $5 total for all of them to be made.
