Emmy Awards 2010: We're live-blogging the ceremony and red carpet!

Categories: Emmy Awards, Live Blog

emmy-live-blogImage Credit: NBCIt’s the Super Bowl for TV junkies, or the Oscars for folks who prefer to consume their entertainment curled up on the couch with a beverage-and-snack combo that doesn’t cost $27.50. Yes, folks, the 2010 Emmy Awards ceremony is upon us, and EW.com is covering it with the borderline-felonious enthusiasm of Glee’s Sue Sylvester training her cheerleaders for nationals. Log on at 7 p.m. ET as my chic colleagues Missy Schwartz (of the must-read Project Runway recaps) and Leah Greenblatt (seriously, I stop and gasp at her delish ensembles at least once a week) live-blog the Emmy red-carpet proceedings. At 8 p.m., my pal Mandi “special vampire correspondent” Bierly and I will hop aboard and provide running commentary throughout the Emmy telecast via the futuristic CoverItLive widget embedded below; we’ll try to pull in a selection of witty and wild reader comments, too, so get ready to multitask! Yep, that means you’ll need to keep one eye on the TV screen, one eye on the computer, and your mind’s eye focused on sending bad mojo to whoever prevented Vanessa Williams from taking her rightful place as a nominee in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy category. What? You didn’t actually expect me to get through an Emmy-related post without invoking the name of the woman who gave life to Ugly Betty‘s Wilhelmina Slater, did you? Anyhow…you’ve got your instructions. We’ll see you at 1900 hours!

Jimmy Fallon on the Emmys: 'This is the perfect year for me to be asked to host'

Categories: Television

jimmy-fallon-emmy-awards_240.jpg Image Credit: Virginia Sherwood/NBCIn just a short while, all eyes will be on Jimmy Fallon, as the Late Night host takes the stage to emcee the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. Before you watch the festivities, check out what Fallon told EW.com about anchoring the big night.

He won’t be too hard on celebrities in the audience. “No one should be afraid. Everyone’s going to have a good time… I get a chance to play with all these great celebrities and stars of television—it’s going to be fun in that way. I want to get them involved a lot. It’s not just going to be me… New shows like Modern Family, Glee—it’s the fresh faces this year. And then your favorites like Tina Fey and Jon Hamm and Betty White will be there. Also, you have shows going away—Lost, 24, and Law & Order—so I’ve got a lot of material to play with. This is the perfect year for me to be asked to host, because I’m so psyched.”

He’s prepared. Really prepared. “I had six writers from our show work on stuff, and we submitted all these ideas. I said to the producer, Don Mischer, ‘Here are our ideas,’ and he said, ‘These are great, but we still need to have time to give out awards.’ I was like, ‘Okay… forgot about that part.’ So we had to cut back a little bit.

He believes that it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how much fun you have. “Eighty percent of the audience are losers, let’s be honest. It’s just math. One out of five wins, so that means you’re stuck with four losers. Last year I was lucky enough to sit next to Will Arnett. He goes, ‘Oh god, look at this loser coming over here,’ and I go, ‘Will, that’s your wife, that’s Amy Pohler, that’s so not nice,’ and he goes, ‘I just call it like I see it, man.’ (laughs) If everyone goes in with that attitude, it’s going to be a fun night, no matter who wins or loses.”

He hopes no one in the audience phones it in. READ FULL STORY »

'Big Brother': Brendon explains why he and Rachel will last as a couple. (Stop laughing!)

Nothing is going to come between Rachel and her man…except me! I intercepted recently evicted Big Brother houseguest Brendon Villegas on his way to the jury house to be reunited with his girlfriend and asked him all about his controversial showmance with the chemist/VIP Cocktail Waitress. This just in: He’s head over heels in love with her! Still, would Brendon have been better off in the game playing with his head instead of his heart? Did Rachel’s tempter tantrums sabotage any chance he had to win? And what makes him think that their reality-born relationship can succeed where so many others have failed? Brendon answers these questions and much more in our exclusive video interview below. READ FULL STORY »

'The Last Exorcism': About that ending...

Categories: Horror, Movies, Snap Judgment

The-Last-Exorcism-1Image Credit: Patti PerretThe documentary-like horror film The Last Exorcism debuted to $9.4 million on Friday. However, based solely on the reaction in my theater, I have doubts about how well the film is going to hold up in a world where reactions spread at the speed of a Twitter bird. The reason? That sudden ending. I actually dug the ending for reasons I’ll explain below, but my fellow moviegoers loudly voiced their disapproval. As soon as the end credits appeared, my audience groaned while a few individuals let out chants of “What?” and “Bulls–t!” Were people merely disappointed that the movie didn’t answer all of their questions? That the conclusion wasn’t wrapped up in a pretty little bow? Or that the movie, as one young man exclaimed while leaving the theater, “wasn’t nearly as scary as Paranormal Activity?” My thoughts after the jump. There will be SPOILERS. READ FULL STORY »

moyer-paquinImage Credit: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Who says celebrities only care about themselves? At last night’s 2010 Entertainment Weekly and Women In Film Pre-Emmy Party, some of television’s biggest stars came out to honor this year’s female Primetime Emmy nominees.

Attendees at the party, sponsored by L’Oreal Paris, included True Blood stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Joe Manganiello; Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men); Mark Salling and Jayma Mays (Glee); Glenn Close (Damages); Sharon Stone; Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights); Kathy Griffin (My Life on the D-List); and Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who’s nominated along with Glee‘s Chris Colfer in the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy category, says he doesn’t see himself as competition: READ FULL STORY »

Meanwhile, the comedy race should be prett-ay, prett-ay, prett-ay, prett-ay close.

'Big Brother': Matt defends giving his wife a fake illness and tries to out-zing the Zingbot

The bigger they talk, the harder they fall. Matt Hoffman learned that the hard way when the self-proclaimed “diabolical super genius” was voted out of the Big Brother house. I caught up with Matt on his way to the jury house (where he is sure to enjoy a simply delightful time with BFFs Brendon and Rachel) for a video chat and here’s what I found out: READ FULL STORY »

Gérard Depardieu calls Juliette Binoche untalented. Pardonnez-moi, but aren't we forgetting a little thing called 'My Father the Hero'?
