Image Credit: NBCIt’s the Super Bowl for TV junkies, or the Oscars for folks who prefer to consume their entertainment curled up on the couch with a beverage-and-snack combo that doesn’t cost $27.50. Yes, folks, the 2010 Emmy Awards ceremony is upon us, and EW.com is covering it with the borderline-felonious enthusiasm of Glee’s Sue Sylvester training her cheerleaders for nationals. Log on at 7 p.m. ET as my chic colleagues Missy Schwartz (of the must-read Project Runway recaps) and Leah Greenblatt (seriously, I stop and gasp at her delish ensembles at least once a week) live-blog the Emmy red-carpet proceedings. At 8 p.m., my pal Mandi “special vampire correspondent” Bierly and I will hop aboard and provide running commentary throughout the Emmy telecast via the futuristic CoverItLive widget embedded below; we’ll try to pull in a selection of witty and wild reader comments, too, so get ready to multitask! Yep, that means you’ll need to keep one eye on the TV screen, one eye on the computer, and your mind’s eye focused on sending bad mojo to whoever prevented Vanessa Williams from taking her rightful place as a nominee in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy category. What? You didn’t actually expect me to get through an Emmy-related post without invoking the name of the woman who gave life to Ugly Betty‘s Wilhelmina Slater, did you? Anyhow…you’ve got your instructions. We’ll see you at 1900 hours!

Jimmy Fallon on the Emmys: 'This is the perfect year for me to be asked to host'
Image Credit: Virginia Sherwood/NBCIn just a short while, all eyes will be on Jimmy Fallon, as the Late Night host takes the stage to emcee the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. Before you watch the festivities, check out what Fallon told EW.com about anchoring the big night.
He won’t be too hard on celebrities in the audience. “No one should be afraid. Everyone’s going to have a good time… I get a chance to play with all these great celebrities and stars of television—it’s going to be fun in that way. I want to get them involved a lot. It’s not just going to be me… New shows like Modern Family, Glee—it’s the fresh faces this year. And then your favorites like Tina Fey and Jon Hamm and Betty White will be there. Also, you have shows going away—Lost, 24, and Law & Order—so I’ve got a lot of material to play with. This is the perfect year for me to be asked to host, because I’m so psyched.”
He’s prepared. Really prepared. “I had six writers from our show work on stuff, and we submitted all these ideas. I said to the producer, Don Mischer, ‘Here are our ideas,’ and he said, ‘These are great, but we still need to have time to give out awards.’ I was like, ‘Okay… forgot about that part.’ So we had to cut back a little bit.
He believes that it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how much fun you have. “Eighty percent of the audience are losers, let’s be honest. It’s just math. One out of five wins, so that means you’re stuck with four losers. Last year I was lucky enough to sit next to Will Arnett. He goes, ‘Oh god, look at this loser coming over here,’ and I go, ‘Will, that’s your wife, that’s Amy Pohler, that’s so not nice,’ and he goes, ‘I just call it like I see it, man.’ (laughs) If everyone goes in with that attitude, it’s going to be a fun night, no matter who wins or loses.”
He hopes no one in the audience phones it in. READ FULL STORY »
'The Last Exorcism': About that ending...
Image Credit: Patti PerretThe documentary-like horror film The Last Exorcism debuted to $9.4 million on Friday. However, based solely on the reaction in my theater, I have doubts about how well the film is going to hold up in a world where reactions spread at the speed of a Twitter bird. The reason? That sudden ending. I actually dug the ending for reasons I’ll explain below, but my fellow moviegoers loudly voiced their disapproval. As soon as the end credits appeared, my audience groaned while a few individuals let out chants of “What?” and “Bulls–t!” Were people merely disappointed that the movie didn’t answer all of their questions? That the conclusion wasn’t wrapped up in a pretty little bow? Or that the movie, as one young man exclaimed while leaving the theater, “wasn’t nearly as scary as Paranormal Activity?” My thoughts after the jump. There will be SPOILERS. READ FULL STORY »
Gérard Depardieu calls Juliette Binoche untalented. Pardonnez-moi, but aren't we forgetting a little thing called 'My Father the Hero'?
Image Credit: Loic Venance/AFP/Getty Images; Ian Gavan/Getty ImagesGérard Depardieu, a.k.a. the only French actor most Americans know, has reportedly laid into Juliette Binoche, a.k.a. the only French actress most Americans know. (Well, with the exception of this one.) Absolutely nothing!” READ FULL STORY »
