'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' reunion recap, part one: Everybody just stay on the couch

Real-Housewives-New-JerseyImage Credit: Andrei Jackamets/BravoThe biggest question after part one of The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion: What’s the deal with Teresa’s nephew?

Just like the word “foreclosure” before it, “nephew” apparently has the power to set Teresa off. I can’t believe that the other ladies insist they’ve never seen Teresa get upset before; she has had the biggest and best meltdowns of the entire show, and it doesn’t look like it’s the first time she’s cursed someone out. You expect me to believe that she’d remain calm if someone insulted Gia’s natural talent? She is from Paterson, remember? READ FULL STORY »

'Dancing With the Stars' casting: Who got 'snubbed'?

The cast for Dancing With the Stars‘ 11th season has been announced, and with Dancmstr Annie Barrett, our resident expert on all things fringe and sequins, on vacation, it falls to me to lament the fact that no one in her dream cast made the cut. Okay, maybe some of them were asked and turned it down. We don’t know. But for the sake of a blog post on a show with a mirrorball trophy, we’re using the term “snub” loosely. Which omission from the cast leaves you feeling the opposite of Bruno after a sexy someone just danced a steamy rumba? (Or, to be more clear, wanting to echo the sentiment Joan Rivers expressed to E! Online about not being the season’s “old lady”: “They’ve never asked me, so they can go f–k themselves!”)

To recap Annie’s dream cast: Elizabeth Berkley, Brian Austin Green, Lindsay Lohan, Leonard Nimoy, Charles Barkley, Danielle Staub, Tila Tequila, Kara DioGuardi, Betty White, and Deadliest Catch‘s Sig Hansen (we blame king crab season). I think she aimed too high.

Mel Gibson still a potential box office draw, according to new poll

Mel-GibsonImage Credit: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.comSeventy-six percent of Americans have no problem separating Mel Gibson the actor from Mel Gibson the scandal magnet, according to a 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll conducted earlier this month by randomly phoning 847 adults. Only 20 percent of participants said they were less likely to see a Mel Gibson movie as a result of the recent accusations by Oksana Grigorieva. Breaking the results down by gender: 80 percent of men and 72 percent of women said they were undeterred by the ongoing scandal. An online poll accompanying the results shows slightly different numbers: 62 percent of responders say the scandal has no effect on the likelihood of them seeing a Mel Gibson movie.

PopWatch’s own August poll, centered on the fourth Mad Max film, Fury Road, had less positive but still promising results for the actor: 33 percent of readers thought the movie was a good idea only if Gibson doesn’t have a cameo, but 24 percent said the film was a good idea only if he makes an appearance. Another 23 percent were supportive of the movie, whether or not Gibson was involved. Twenty percent thought the movie was a bad idea, period.

If you were a studio exec reading these numbers, would you gamble on Gibson?

Chris Harrison blogs 'Bachelor Pad': Episode 4

chris-bachelor-padImage Credit: Craig Sjodin/ABC Before we get into the tears and drama of the Pad I want to first thank you for watching our new show and making it a success. I also want to thank those of you that joined me Sunday on the Emmy red carpet on TV Guide Network. (While I’m thanking people, a quick shout out to Chris Lambton, Jesse B., and Peyton for joining me last week in North Carolina and helping raise money for cancer research and the Jimmy V foundation.) This episode started with an inside look at the fallout from last week’s elimination. Wes was obviously emotional after losing Gia. He said, “it’s not personal, it’s a game.” I think he was trying to convince himself more than anybody else. He clearly fell head over heels for Gia, and I can’t wait ’til we all get back together at the finale to see how deep these feelings go and if they’re mutual. Wes’ feelings aside, he really went out on a limb to save Gia and that limb snapped in half. He was a man alone on an island all week, and despite his best efforts to help everybody remove their heads from their backsides and take down the power couples, his words fell on deaf ears and he was shown the door — or in this case the limo. 'Bachelor Pad' episode 4: Worst date in reality TV history?

Categories: Bachelor Pad, Reality TV

You know which one I’m talking about, rose-lovers. I won’t spoil it for you West Coasters, but for the love of all that is holy, what was [contestant name redacted] thinking???? Or is the idea that [contestant name redacted] was in fact thinking at all giving him/her too much credit? Let’s just say when the best part of a date is the fact that it took place in an airplane hangar, you are in trouble. In other Bachelor Pad news, that anonymous survey was a brilliant and beautiful work of cruelty by the producers — you know they had a ball sitting around brainstorming questions that would truly send the bachelors and bachelorettes into painful shame spirals. I’m not at all surprised about who went home, though from the looks of the previews for next week, the “insiders” will not be in control forever. Stay tuned for my full TV recap (UPDATE: Bachelor Pad full recap is now live) and Chris Harrison’s exclusive Bachelor Pad blog later tonight, but in the meantime, let me know what you thought of tonight’s episode, and whether you would rather go on a date with the badly behaving contestant mentioned above OR have Jake Pavelka’s face tattooed on your forehead.

Stephen Moyer's 'sock of destiny' up for auction

steve-sockImage Credit: trueblood-news.comOh, Stephen Moyer came to play in the Battle of the Fang, a showdown in which fans of his Bill Compton and Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric Northman are competing to see who can raise the most money for charities of the actors’ choice. Moyer’s added his “sock of destiny,” what the cast has dubbed the modesty piece some actors wear while filming their True Blood nude scenes, to the mix. There’d been 82 bids at pub time, and the sock, which has been signed by Moyer and his wife/costar Anna Paquin, was at $535.00. (“Stephen did not say whether the sock had been used or not… we’re not asking,” the eBay description notes.) I love Moyer for this, and expect his sense of humor to be rewarded. The sock has got to go for as least as much as the signed Season 3 finale script he also donated (which was at $900 following 44 bids at pub time). The eBay auctions end Sept. 4.

The true Battle of the Fang, which started June 13 and continues through the show’s Sept. 12 season finale, involves fans making donations to either Moyer’s chosen charity, GulfAid, or Skarsgard’s, SOS Children’s Villages. Whichever actor’s fans donate more money wins. They’ve each agreed to be photographed wearing a T-shirt designed by the winner and his team. Those T-shirts will then be awarded to one randomly-selected fan from each team. (For every $5 you donate, your name gets entered again.)

If you’re Team Eric, head here for more information. If you’re Team Bill, you’ll want to click here. As of August 27, the teams had collectively raised more than $30,000.

'Real Housewives of New Jersey' talk Off-Broadway debut, tonight's 'explosive' reunion show

My-Big-Gay-Italian-WeddingIf you’ve been getting anxious at the thought of the impending Real Housewives of New Jersey-less future, fear not, for the Jersey ladies aren’t going anywhere. Danielle Staub has a budding singing career, and now her fellow cast members are preparing to make their (Off) Broadway debut. Beginning on September 1, Caroline Manzo, Lauren Manzo, Teresa Giudice, Jacqueline Laurita, and Ashley Holmes will star in four performances of My Big Gay Italian Wedding, with proceeds going to Marriage Equality New York.

“I have zero experience. I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t act,” Caroline said during EW’s recent visit to rehearsal. She was the self-assured matriarch we’ve come to expect during a choreography run through, assuring cast members that she would have the steps down by opening night. “I’ll get it, don’t worry,” she insisted, even if it required the help of “three or four mojitos before the show.” The ladies took dance practice seriously, despite not having any musical theater background. “Can we get the music on a CD so I can do it in my kitchen?” Caroline asked. Sister-in-law Jacqueline had another idea: ”Unless you call us on the phone and you can sing to us. I’m going to put you on speaker,” she joked to Wedding regulars. Jacqueline was goofing off during practice for the Lady Gaga meets Chicken Dance choreography, which was a nice change from how we usually see her on the show (naively trusting the likes of Danielle or Kim G. and later getting burned, or, fighting with her daughter Ashley). “I think it’s fun, it’s something out of your comfort zone. We’re having a good time with it for sure,” she said. READ FULL STORY »

The bell doth toll for Lady Gaga at Iowa State

Last week, the students at Iowa State University got a midday treat — one that combined some “Bad Romance” with a bell tower. Tin-Shi Tam, ISU carillonneur, performed Lady Gaga’s hit song on the carillon (aka the bells in said tower) at noon on Friday. Watch below.

An ISU student started a Facebook campaign to request the song, and Tam obliged. Apparently, Tam often takes requests for her Friday performances. Hanson’s “MMMBop” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” also grace her repertoire. READ FULL STORY »

'Modern Family' star Eric Stonestreet also wins for best morning after Emmy photo?

eric-stonestret-dogWhat’s the best morning after-Emmy photo you’ve seen on Twitter today? I’m going to go with this shot Modern Family supporting actor winner Eric Stonestreet just tweeted with the caption, “Coleman can’t choose. Monkey, Emmy? Emmy, monkey?” Coleman, we know from Stonestreet’s EW Pop Culture Personality Test last fall, is a Jack Russell/Beagle mix he rescued as a puppy eight or nine years ago. He also goes by “Coleman Hawkins,” “Bubba,” and our favorite, “Coleman The Patrolman,” and has been immortalized in a statue himself (his head on a cowboy’s body). READ FULL STORY »

'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' recap: Three things I learned from last night's episode

KardashiansThere was a whole lotta good TV on last night (The Emmys, True Blood, Mad Men), but I still made time for my favorite little slice of reality TV spongecake, E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians. And I’m glad that I did, because last night was not only an enjoyable episode, but it taught me several valuable lessons. Here are the three things I learned from my quality time last night with the Kardashian family…

  1. Kim is really turned off by body hair…and Gerard Butler. Momager, Kris, decides to set Kim up on a date and then asks her, “How about Gerard Butler?” Kim’s harsh (but kinda genius) response is: READ FULL STORY »
