'Community' season 2 promo: Betty White is confused

betty-whiteImage Credit: NBCAs The Big Bang Theory and Community prepare to battle it out for time slot domination, NBC’s sophomore comedy is showing no fear. If this were a water gun fight, the new promo  for the season premiere of Community, featuring Betty White, would be pepper water. (Watch the promo below)

Last month, we learned that White will be playing anthropology professor June Bauer in the Sept. 23 episode. Yes, Bauer. If that’s not an opportunity for Abed to do a 24 spoof, I don’t know what is. Inside, I’m krumping with excitement!

Okay, I’m getting (streets) ahead of myself. But as Abed Batman would say, “Wherever there’s tomfoolery and joy, I’m there.” What about you, PopWatchers? Will you be there for Community‘s season premiere? READ FULL STORY »

'The Last Exorcism': Check out this NSFW viral video... If you dare! (Cue: Maniacal laugh)

The-Last-ExorcismI have no idea whether the new, Eli Roth-produced horror film The Last Exorcism will be any good. But if the movie, which opens this Friday, is even a quarter as scary as the Chatroulette-themed publicity clip I’ve embedded after the break, then, well, it will be 25 percent as frightening as a very frightening thing.

I’m not going to say much more, as I think that would spoil matters, though I will point out that it contains strong language — and an important lesson about what can happen if you use the Internet to troll for “babes.”

Check it out, and tell us what you think.

'Held Up' trailer premiere: Kaitlin Olson packs heat in Sklar brother web heist

Filed under: Web Surfing and tagged: ,

held-upImage Credit: Sony Pictures Television/Jordin AlthausOn Sept. 7, Held Up, the 16-part web series starring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson, The Wire‘s Cyrus Farmer, The Jon Dore Show‘s Jon Dore, and writer-producers Randy and Jason Sklar, premieres on Crackle.com. Below, we’ve got your exclusive first look at the trailer. The story: Bored bank teller/standup comic Ray (Dore) gets his wish for some excitement when two teams of crazy robbers disguised as Rocky I (Farmer), Rocky II (Olson) and Batman and Robin (the Sklar brothers) hold up his branch. It’s a character piece, and one of things the Sklars are most proud of is the love story that develops between Ray and Rocky II. “In the same way that we really love the relationship, and who doesn’t, between Niles and Frasier Crane — that they made Niles even farther to the right than Frasier — we thought how great would it be if Jon is this total smartass, but we have Kaitlin, who is so strong comedically, and he falls in love with her from a comedy perspective,” Randy says.

“Jon says in a later episode, ‘I have a comedy boner for her,’” Jason continues. “The entire time throughout the series, Jon’s pulling the rug out from Jan, the bank manager played by Susan Nakamura. You get the sense that he’s been doing that forever, and now this woman comes in and pulls the rug out from under him and just completely, literally, sweeps him off his feet. So often in TV and movies, the guys get to be funny and the women are hot, and that’s the chemistry. But in this case, you got a funny guy and then an equal or funnier woman, and they connect on that, and he’s like, ‘I want that. That’s hot to me.’” READ FULL STORY »

Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks may get 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , , ,

Bullock-HanksImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR Photos; Anthony G. Moore/PR PhotosSandra Bullock may be circling what could be her first role since winning the Oscar for The Blind Side: She’s been offered to possibly co-star with Tom Hanks in the movie adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, according to Variety. The post-9/11 drama is set in 2003, when a young boy finds a key that belonged to his father — who died in the World Trade Center attacks — and searches for the lock that it opens.

Seems like about as prestige-y a project as one could want post-Oscar, no? Hanging with Tom Hanks on a respected literary adaptation about a huge, deeply emotional historical event? What do you think, PopWatchers? Is this a good move for Bullock, or are you pining for rom-com Sandy to return?

Lunchtime Poll: Speidi sex tape or Spidey sex tape?

Speidi-or-SpideyImage Credit: PRN/PR Photos; Zade RosenthalI’m sorry to be so inconsiderate as you’re about to eat, but there’s supposed to be a Spencer Pratt/Heidi Montag sex tape. A “flurry” of tapes, according to Spencer. Ewwww, don’t say flurry. There might also be footage of Heidi and a Playboy Playmate getting intimate. No way do I care about either of these tightly packed bowls of (probably) whipped-potato lies, but I might have watched the latter had the Playmate been Kendra, because then it could just be a slow-looping track of her laugh, like on The Soup. Maybe I’d even score some tips on how to keep my nasolabial folds in check while getting tickled by a stupid feather. ANYWAY, I’d been blissfully unaware of any of this until this morning, at which point someone in a meeting mentioned “the Speidi sex tape” and I misinterpreted it as “the Spidey sex tape.” There it is. (FYI: Seth/Summer Spider-man kiss!)

Warren the Ape reaches out to Seth Green: Exclusive clip

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

In tonight’s episode of Warren The Ape (MTV, 10:30 p.m. ET), the D-list actor and fabricated American reaches out to his old Greg the Bunny costar Seth Green for cash — at the worst possible time. Watch the clip below. Perhaps if Warren had waited until Saturday, after Green’s Robot Chicken had finally won the Emmy for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program, he would’ve had better luck.

As for Warren’s answers to the questions submitted for him last week on PopWatch:

Q: Warren, how can you live with yourself?!? — Jose
A: “Practice,” Warren says. “I’ve been doing it all my life.”

Q: Warren, can I blow you please? — jerryhedrick
A: “Thanks,” Warren says, “but I’ve got enough people around me who suck.” READ FULL STORY »

'Big Brother' Is Britney spearing the right subjects?

Filed under: Reality TV, TV and tagged:

Cliff Lipson/CBS

I’m not sure what was more disturbing tonight: Lane’s bizarre taunting of a 300-plus pound barbell or Ragan, a man who has a PhD I might add, saying a Rachel-inspired drink would actually be made of “silicone, nasty hair extensions, and just a dash of chin acne.” Now, I did a little jig when Rachel was voted off too, but his hostile remarks have just gone a little too far. Of course, I feel for the guy. Ragan is going to have to reassess every acquaintance he ever thought was a good person after he rewatches this season. He basically thinks Matt, one of the slimier contestants this show has produced, is the second coming. On the plus side, his tears finally worked in his favor during the Have-and-Have-Not competition.  READ FULL STORY »

'Piranha 3D': Exclusive, NSFW, behind-the-scenes photo gallery!

piranha-3d-posterJust when you thought it was safe to go back into Popwatch, without seeing photos of people being attacked by small fish… we pull you back in! Sorry, I got my movie sequels mixed up there. But there’s no confusion about the fact that, after the jump, you’ll find a gallery of exclusive, behind-the-scenes photos from the now-out-in-cinemas Piranha 3D, complete with commentary by director Alexandre Aja. There’s also little doubt that a couple of the snaps are bloody.

On the other hand we guarantee that none feature the sight of Jerry O’Connell’s manhood. Maybe it was too small to photograph. We’re joking, J.C.—we kid because we love!

Anyway, you have been warned…

Kids in the Hall's 'Death Comes to Town' premieres: Did you miss 'em?

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged:

Kids-Hall-Death-HallImage Credit: Michael Gibson/IFCThe Kids in the Hall are back! Death Comes to Town, the Canadian goofballs’ first full project together since 1996′s Brain Candy, debuted its first two episodes on IFC last night. (The eight-part miniseries already aired up North earlier this year.) Death Comes to Town is structured as a murder mystery, featuring the five Kids in multiple roles, in and out of drag, as the residents of backwater Shuckton, Ontario. So how was it?

The first two episodes introduced a handful of very funny characters, most notably Mark McKinney as a paunchy, codpieced, bicycle-riding Grim Reaper, Bruce McCulloch as Shuckton’s preening, deluded mayor, Dave Foley as his hard-drinking wife, and Kevin McDonald as a loopy pizza delivery employee. In a running subplot, McKinney and Scott Thompson play rivals at the local news station — it’s somewhat amusing, if generally sub-Anchorman. There were lots of other characters introduced, but honestly, not too many of them have clicked for me yet. Still, it was fun to see the Kids doing their thing all together again.

Did you catch Death Comes to Town last night? Planning on tuning in again next week? Is it up to the standard of the Kids’ best work? Sound off in the comments.
