Stephen Moyer's 'sock of destiny' up for auction

steve-sockImage Credit: trueblood-news.comOh, Stephen Moyer came to play in the Battle of the Fang, a showdown in which fans of his Bill Compton and Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric Northman are competing to see who can raise the most money for charities of the actors’ choice. Moyer’s added his “sock of destiny,” what the cast has dubbed the modesty piece some actors wear while filming their True Blood nude scenes, to the mix. There’d been 82 bids at pub time, and the sock, which has been signed by Moyer and his wife/costar Anna Paquin, was at $535.00. (“Stephen did not say whether the sock had been used or not… we’re not asking,” the eBay description notes.) I love Moyer for this, and expect his sense of humor to be rewarded. The sock has got to go for as least as much as the signed Season 3 finale script he also donated (which was at $900 following 44 bids at pub time). The eBay auctions end Sept. 4.

The true Battle of the Fang, which started June 13 and continues through the show’s Sept. 12 season finale, involves fans making donations to either Moyer’s chosen charity, GulfAid, or Skarsgard’s, SOS Children’s Villages. Whichever actor’s fans donate more money wins. They’ve each agreed to be photographed wearing a T-shirt designed by the winner and his team. Those T-shirts will then be awarded to one randomly-selected fan from each team. (For every $5 you donate, your name gets entered again.)

If you’re Team Eric, head here for more information. If you’re Team Bill, you’ll want to click here. As of August 27, the teams had collectively raised more than $30,000.

Great to see a pair actors take the Team _____ vs. Team So and So silliness, have a great time with it, and turn it into something that’s going to help people.

I feel incredibly creeping writing this….is ASkars’ “sock” up for auction?

    • Jose

He admitted to the press that he wears no sock. He is fully nude in all of those scenes unlike his costars.

      • april

I thought the rule on set was that you had to wear something to cover “it” and that most of the actors choose a sock…

    • Peter Morgan

You really should feel creepy. What exactly would you do with such a thing?

      • Brian

        Um, sniff it? Duh.

      • Liz

Use it to put your cell phone in?

    • Kelsey

ASkars does not wear a sock.
Let’s all think about that for a second.

      • Daniel

        Swedes. Yum.

        *flails and passes out*

    • Krystal

LOL they don’t have a sock big enough for the Tall One. LOl

No really, ASkars is ALWAYS telling fans and the like that nudity is viewed very differently in his country, and he sticks to that. So his nude scenes are NUDE.

    • sara anna

Alex Skarsgard doesn’t wear a sock when he’s in the nude scenes. said so himself ;)

  • Betty Sue

No…he did not donate a sock. As Jose has replied, he doesn’t wear one…but Alexander has donated his personal True Blood scripts to the cause that are on EBAY…
There’s a link on the site they have mentioned that will get you there…

  • Deb

…Please…you know you’re all curious about it! ;) Those are some great causes!

  • Abbie Rich

Alex has also given two signed scrips with personal notes in them up for auction on ebay as well

    • CC

Yea. Talk about one-sided coverage Mandy. How about posting all 4 auctions instead of just SM’s?

  • Jeanna

Alex put his signed scripts up for auction they both are great causes but I really want Team Eric to win!

  • Jones19

    I want that sock!

  • Abbie Rich

To find Alex’s scripts on ebay copy and paste the following into the ebay search box:

True Blood Season 3 Signed Script ~ Alexander Skarsgard

What to do with the sock? We have some Practical Uses for the Sock of Destiny:

  • Jack

Dude, who would want that!? Gross. I want Skarsgard’s signed scripts.

Mandi-Thank you for bringing attention to the Battle of the Fang. Both guys have great charities. As you know by the previous comments, Alex donated signed scripts. Would you include links to those in your article? It’s only fair. Thanks!

There is also a Script signed by the entire cast up for auction in this contest. It’s the season finale for season 3!

  • Cin

I want that sock or Steve’s script. Steve’s script has the casts signatures including Alex’s. Alex’s script has ONLY Alex’s signature.

    • Sus

True but does the script that is signed by everyone have personal notes about the episode? I think not!

      • mar

        SUS I think YES :)

  • Kat

I find this hysterical and endearing and I love Stephen and Anna for going there. What a random collectors item. The script offered by Stephen is signed by the entire main cast apparently, which is something I’d love to have. Alex’s script is just signed by him which is not as exciting. Team Bill FTW.
