Chris Harrison blogs 'Bachelor Pad': Episode 3

chris-bachelor-padImage Credit: Craig Sjodin/ABC They say that love…. We’ll continue that song in just a bit. Let’s begin this week with a kiss. Who knew a simple little kissing contest would tear the world apart like it did in the house this week. Ashley is a high school teacher and felt like she would be compromising her values and letting her students down by taking part, so she pulled out of the competition. I have to go with my original feeling about it that day and say I respect the move. She felt like a hypocrite and I respect anybody for standing up for what they believe. As for Gia, I wasn’t so sure. She had already competed in over half the competition, so I’m not sure why she decided to step away when she did. I know she was struggling with it and got emotional, but I was a little surprised when she walked away. I think it’s pretty safe to say her heart wasn’t in it and she had no chance of winning, but seeing as how she got sent home it essentially cost her a quarter of a million dollars. I was also surprised at how serious the lip-locking got. As Elizabeth so eloquently said, “I got tongue from most of the guys.” Elizabeth and Natalie were easily the most aggressive during the contest. We gave them a rough seven-second count to kiss each guy, and most of the time I had to tell Natalie and Elizabeth that their time was up. Oddly enough the guys didn’t like the rough stuff. They went with the softer, gentler Peyton. As for the girls they picked David. David took Nikki, Krisily and Natalie to Vegas. They spent some time at the Bare pool at the Mirage. Natalie did bare it and surprise, surprise she got the rose. I’m not saying guys are easy to figure out, but it’s not exactly algebra is it? (If you’re really good at algebra then insert something you’re not good at here.) It’s smart of Natalie and David to keep their relationship on the down low. Considering the trouble Kovacs and Kiptyn are in, this seems like a good play.

Peyton’s date was much more interesting because we haven’t heard or seen much of her up to this point. After last week’s disaster where the outsiders’ plan fell apart, Peyton wisely decided to take matters into her own hands and get on a winning team. She was not only able to switch sides and become an insider, but she also found herself in the middle of a relationship with Jesse B. It will be interesting to see how this relationship flourishes as the show continues. The fantasy suite that Peyton and Jesse B. stayed in was the master bedroom in the house. We’ve kept it locked up to this point so nobody had gone inside yet. During taping of The Bachelor, this is one of the rooms where all the girls stay. Easily the most talked about thing this week is Gia and Wes. I absolutely love that Wes whipped out the guitar and serenaded Gia with our favorite song. Even better was Gia who said she doesn’t remember hearing a song where she listened to the lyrics like this one. Apparently she didn’t watch Jillian’s season of The Bachelorette. I recall hearing it a couple of times back then. Just when we all thought that it couldn’t get any better, Gia gave us the line that will go down in Bachelor Pad history, calling Wes a “modern day Shakespeare, but better and cuter.” First of all, Will was a damn fine lookin’ man and could turn a phrase with the best of them, but in all fairness to Wes, Shakespeare is nothing in Chihuahua, Mexico. Wes obviously fell head over heels in love with Gia, and he did everything he could to tear the alliances in the house apart and keep Gia around. Alas, in the end it wasn’t enough, and now Wes has to watch his back as he burned some bridges trying to keep her around. Funny what love can do to a guy. “They say that love don’t come easy”—truer words have never been sung!

I want to thank you all very much for watching Bachelor Pad, and I also hope you’ll join me at the Emmys this Sunday, August 29. I’ll be talking to all of your favorite TV stars as I host the Emmy red carpet show live at 3 p.m. PT/6p.m. ET on TV Guide Network. If you promise to watch, I promise not to wear a checkered shirt with a lavender tie! As always, please leave your comments below, and you can always find me on twitter @chrisbharrison or on Facebook.

It wasn’t the lavender Chris, it was the polka dots on the lavender that did it. ;-)

    • Bev

haha – Oh, I love how Chris mentioned this !!! Agreed Stasi – it was definately the polka-dots!! I was like… what the heck is he wearing??? haha Promises, promises Chris!! :-)

  • Devin Faraci

    A show for idiots.

    • LOL

.. and a place for them to post

      • Zane

        You’re posting, aren’t you?

    • etm

      Bachelor Pad is awesome!!

  • eric

Come on chris. Stop playing surprised. With all the crying this is staged and fake. This show proves how low this nation has sunk with these fake superficial reality shows. If this was reality for one you would not discriminate and maybe have one guy or girl on here that with all the make up doesn’t look like ken and barbie. Not mentioning they are all players. The drama is not real. All staged. Drama queens including yourself. Everyone on here is a fame whore and you know it!

    • me

So true. Not only that, but there is something EXTREMELY creepy about a grown man Harrison’s age actually blogging about a kissing contest and who did what to whom. Man what a tool.

      • Kris

I am so sick of people bashing Chris Harrison. He’s doing his frickin’ job! My goodness… if any of you Chris-bashers were lucky enough to have such a cushy job that paid you millions and allowed you to travel around the world, you would be doing what the producers told you to do too!!! I’m sure some of these haters must work in places like Disneyland or HotDog-on-a-Stick and have to wear their dorky costumes but they still do it because it’s part of their job, and they probably only make minimum wage! Come on people, get real! I’m sure Chris thinks it’s silly to announce that it’s the final rose too, but he does it because it’s part of his job! Why is that sooooo hard for you to comprehend?

      • Maddie

I love Chris and I agree with Kris. He’s just doing his job. If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it!

    • EL

      Chris,

Defending Ashley’s decision is ridiculous. That she even came on the show casts serious doubt on her “values” that you claim she didn’t want to compromise.

She knew what she was getting into and how she would be perceived. Don’t patronize us with your idiotic defense of these fame whores.

    • betty

I think Chris Harrison is wonderful! He has the right kind of personality and is very nice to look at. He sure is easy on the eyes. Don’t be jealous that he makes more money than you eric and “me”. Kris, I’m with you. Keep up the good work Chris and thanks for blogging. I enjoy reading them.

  • eric

What a joke! Next we will have a reality junk show for violent criminals. Jesus! Has everyone gone insane. These jerkoffs should be helping out the needy with so much time on their hands. Party and sex is all these spoiled jerks care about. Good job chris for playing into their stupid pathetic not genuine behavior. And melissa rycroft. What’s this joke famous for? Oh. The beautiful princess gets rejected one time in her life, plays victim and makes history. What a joke. Now she gets interviews, gets pampered while the rest of america struggles. Wow!

    • Kali

Um, maybe you should be out helping the needy instead of writing whiny posts about TV shows.

      • Jenna

        You tell him, girl!

Jeez people it’s entertainment. Look the word up if it has too many syllables for you. And eric, why are you even here if you’re so above it all?

  • penny

Agreed! Their lives lack any hardships. That’s where drama comes in. Kissing contest I heard. What trash. Yes. Mellisa is annoying and an attention seeker.

    • Anna

Agreed – Melissa is annoying and has a useless role on the show. She even explains rule annoyingly. She should go eat a sandwich.

      • Clarice

I totally agree. I have no idea why she keeps getting jobs in this industry. Chris is such a nice person and I wouldn’t even like the show without him. I can’t believe that some people here are so rude to Chris! I can’t think of anyone that could do a better job than him.

      • Maddie

I’ve always been a Melissa fan but I have to agree, on Bachelor Pad she isn’t needed. Chris could do it all!

  • gina

I would never watch this fake trash. Melissa rycroft makes me sick especially. always an article about her. Famous for what? The poor beautiful princess gets rejected one time in her life and plays victim and is now famous???? all these idiots that give her interviews. Stop!!!! Go away attention seeker!!! You are not that important. grrrrrrrr

    • DomeFoam

I really just want Melissa to eat a meal. What is with these girls turning into pipe cleaners once in the spotlight? Please fill your body with some nutrition – if anything for your future child!!!

      • Elizabeth

Agreed she is now too skinny and plastic looking. Sigh

    • Kali

Interesting, Gina. You said almost the exact same things Eric said above. Change your name much?

    • Sammy

Funny gina would NEVER watch a show like this…but is interested enough to read and comment?

      • Carol

That is exactly what I was thinking. Why are these bashers here???? Ha! They just can’t get enough of the show. I love it and I think Chris does an excellent job and I think it is great that Melissa is on. She is happy as she should be. I think there are just a lot of jealous people out there who have nothing better to do than bash anyone that is successful.

    • Karen

You are nothing but a bitch. Melissa did NOT play victim. She was a victim! I am so sick of you idiots ripping Melissa when she is doing nothing wrong! She made the best of doors that were opened for her.

Dont you dare tell me that you wouldnt have taken advantage of the opportunities she has if they were presented to you. if you say no, you are nothing but a big, fat, liar.

  • Susan

Disappointing to see Gia and Weatherman go home. They were entertaining, and she was pretty.

Also, the production values on this show STINK. The dates should be nice places, not a car race and an upstairs bedroom, and last week was even worse. Change the locale and stop looking like cheapskates. We notice, you know.

    • Sharon

Just because you would not like a date at a drag strip does not mean other people wouldn’t. I’ve grown up at the track and started racing with I was 9, so I would love a date like this…and drag racing is not cheap

    • DIDI

Gia went home because she stupidly gave the rose to Wes on her date- it casued the HairDude to go home last week, eventhough Gia knew she had to give HIM the rose, not Wes, and caused her to go home this week.
And yes, Melissa is annoying, redundant and too skinny (her dress on last night’s rose ceremony showed just how skinny).

      • dartwoman63

Melissa may have been skinny during the taping of this show but she won’t be for long as she is expecting a baby.

  • Marylee

This show is doing a better job of showing us who these people really are than the Bachellor/Bachellorette series. On one show they gave us their best behavior; on another their worst. Gia may be pretty, but she is obviously quite self absorbed and refused to acknowledge her part in the Kypton fiasco last week. Worse than all of that is how she gushed over Wes, compared him to William Shakespeare (really Gia?), and thought his song was brilliant. OMG she can’t possibly be that dumb, can she? Elizabeth is quite a character. That is my polite way of saying “PSYCHO”. If Kovacs doesn’t see the real person underneath her plastic outer shell then he’s doomed. Hate to say it but Wes was right — voting Elizabeth out would have been the best thing for Kovacs’ game. Now his only chance for survival is to enter the Witness Protection Program.

    • KWise

Hilarious – I totally agree, Witness Protection Program will be the only way to escape Elizabeth after this! I just don’t see how Kovacs didn’t realize that getting rid of Elizabeth IS HIS BEST MOVE. He keeps griping, “I’ll never get asked on dates” and “I’ll never get the date rose.” Well, you WOULD if you got rid of Elizabeth….

      • APED

So true! Why can’t he see it? Kovacs is pretty clueless.

    • Kali

Yep. Kovacs is totally playing both sides of the fence, and not very well.

    • Andrea

I agree with your comments…good insight about Bachelor Pad presenting more authentic character traits than the original series. Gia has been the biggest disappointment so far.

      • Marci

I agree. I can’t believe we were all so agast that Jake would chose Vienna, who came off as dumb as a post, and now we discover both Gia and Tenley are vapid airheads. This is shedding a whole new light on these shows, isn’t it?

    • Amy

Totally hilarious! Kovacs is doomed. Elizabeth IS a psycho. His best bet would be to get away from her if while he still can!

    • TV_Pete

It was funny (and appropriate) that I first read this as the “Witless” protection agency. That might have been appropriate to help out quite a few people on this show.

    • Lisa

      HaHa Totally agree.

  • RJ

The kissing contest was stomach-turning. And what you euphemistically call “love” should earn you a purple fedora to go with that pink suit.

  • Marilou Roberts

Do not take the show seriously! Relax, Laugh, enjoy, and have fun with it. There so much crap happening in this world, At the end of the day we need to escaped from them and watch a comedy. Take it easy!!

    • Mel

Oh Marilou – I so agree! This show is pure madness and so much fun to watch! Elizabeth is INSANE but yet somehow in control and there are so many others that we haven’t even seen their crazy come out yet. With all the issues in the world – I welcome the chaos and craziness.

    • Shiloh

I agree! Great, easy, fun TV!

    • Kali

I agree! Yes, The Bachelor Pad is trash TV, but right now Monday nights are the highlight of my sad, underemployed, stressed-out life.

      • Leah WHITE

I hear ya sister, I have just ended a five year relationship by finding my boyfriend with another man…No Joke, so its nice to forget about my drama and loose myself in someon elses besides a least their tight hard bodies makes it really easy to get captivated and it helps to encourage sweet dreams …maybe even wet ones

  • southern girl

    Chris,
Which room is the “bunk room” in the bachelor? And why are the rose ceremonies outside instead of in their usual room?

    • tomm

So they can get into the reject limo asap.

  • Josephine

Amen Marilou! I couldn’t agree with you more! I don’t watch the show thinking these people are going to be the next President, I watch because it is entertaining. It’s nice to watch something that is just simple and fun. Beats the maniacally depressing events of the nighly news any day.

    • me

Grown men and women acting like idiots is entertaining – yea, right. The only thing “simple” about it is its audience. Any if you’ve ever watched the nightly news in your life I’ll eat a bug.

      • Kelly

Well, then I think it’s time for you to eat some bugs. It’s entertainment – don’t make it out to be the end of the world. Football is entertaining, reality television is entertaining, even the nightly news is entertaining. Obviously you find Bachelor Pad entertaining as well, or else you wouldn’t be reading the blog, reading the comments on the blog, then commenting on the comments you have read on the blog.

      • Ani

Right yes of course… they keep making shows in the same format because nobody finds them entertaining. That and the nightly news is definitely made for “educated” people.

      • Jenna

Then bring on the cockroaches lady, because not everyone who enjoys a show like this is simpleminded. I have a masters degree, teach advanced English to college seniors, and watch MSNBC religiously — but I also know when to zone out on cotton candy television.

Stop being an elitist prig and realize that everyone’s idea of entertainment is not akin to yours. Some of us like to relax our minds once in a while. I’d venture to say it’s even good for one to engage in mindless drivel. Even Blaise Pascal couldn’t be computing complicated mathematical equations ALL the time.

  • Rikki Irwin

Why do they all keep trying to pretend that voting certain people off “keeps it fair”? The whole point of the show is voting people off, so there’s nothing to be fair about that they are transgressing by voting for their friends. What part of the game are certain players missing?

  • Nancy

If Kovacs was smart, he would have voted off Elizabeth. Gia got what she deserved. If she had kept Craig like she said she would, the “outsiders” would have had the upper hand. Don’t know how she could berate weatherman for thinking with his emotions when she fell for Wes’s B.S. Then she had the nerve to blame Nikki for keeping Kiptyn in the game. She totally blew it.

    • LOL

“If Kovacs was smart” – ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

      • amyb123

        Post of the day!

    • Bachelorette

i agree, she is going to burn him b4 he do it, n GIA, i wanted to get u off last week now, safe me to stay, i lol, kiptin is smarter than that, n really ,WES, i like last week, everybody got it wrong about u, but agree about what wes told kiptin, is the girls that keeping u around, so next week, thats like survivor, WHO have the worst boob Job, lol, i cant wake

      • Georgie

        What??

      • Wicked

        What language is this?

      • Hmmmm

        “Bachelorette”? That you Deanna?

      • Karen

Your english teacher must be very proud of you.

      • Kara

        Wow! Commas much , , , , ,

    • Bachelorette

lol, u r so right, that girl going to burn him, n the preview off nextt week, that is like survivor, with the questions rating ur enemies, i like one question, Who have the worst boob jobs, ? n it looks like alot more crying next week, lol, i cant wait

    • Georgie

Honestly, why doesn’t he vote her off????!!! It would really be a smart move, right? I just don’t see the downfall!

    • deb

Gia and Elizabeth are sooo sneaky it’s pathetic. And the whole strategy thing with teams, etc. doesn’t even make sense. In the end everyone is going to vote for one of their “friends” anyway so what is the point! This whole show is really a trainwreck. The teacher is a big phony also. Come on, just being ON the show shows your own lack of self-respect. And Wes was just up to his old tricks with Gia. I can’t believe how gullible these dumb girls are! Unbelievable. Oh well, it IS funny to watch. And Gia is really beyond two-faced blaming Nikki for last week! SHE changed her mind and voted for Wes! How does she have a leg to stand on! Sheesh!

      • Lisa

I agree w/the Gia thing. Who’s she kidding. Elizabeth is the same tease that she was on the bachelorette. I just can’t believe Kovacs got messed up w/her. I’m sure he’s regretting it now!

  • Michelle

No one should be surprised that Gia went home. She claimed to be honest but quickly forgot that she gave Craig M. her word that he was getting a rose and she changed her mind but wanted to blame Nikki for not sticking to the plan. Gia, it’s called karma! I loved the comment that Wes made about being the last one that the women kissed and his stomach was almost churning just thinking about the guys that they had been kissing. Natalie showed everyone what she is about when she announced that she would kiss them all for $20. I know that the economy is bad but really $20?! No one could possibly be looking for love and need to be honest that they’re hoping to win $250,000 and if they find love, that will be an added bonus.

    • Jojo4

TOtally agree with you Michelle.. Gia was being so nasty to Nikki at the beginning of the show. Atleast have the decency to talk to her in private. She set herself right up there and although her relationship with Wes was getting interesting, she needed to go! Side note, Peyton is so boring! That date was PAINFUL to watch. Pretty sure that wouldn’t be the best date ever for a woman to drive a racecar around! Pal–lease!

    • Big Dave

Actually, I’d have made out with all of the bachelors for $20. Truth be told, I’d probably have paid $20 for the privilege. Especially Jesse B.
